Why? Rudy seems very professional even when he has a ton of haters in the league.

I know Towns went out of his way to make Rudy comfortable, including throwing him lobs on offense. Randle always struck me more as a “I’m getting mine” kind of guy.

Maybe I’m wrong. Randle is a good distributor to the perimeter. I guess I’ll make a better judgement after I’ve seen them on the court together.

I think "embracing" and "getting along" needs to be a different conversation from "passing him the ball".

Assists to turnovers, Julius Randle
2023-24: 5.0 to 3.5
2022-23: 4.1 to 2.8
2021-22: 5.1 to 3.4
2020-21: 6.0 to 3.4
-------------
2019-20: 3.1 to 3.0
2018-19: 3.1 to 2.8
2017-18: 2.6 to 2.6
2016-17: 3.6 to 2.3

What does the line of separation signify? That was when the Knicks hired Thibs.

I am sure the fans will love him. One of his biggest traits is he is a fighter, he plays HARD. Minnesota basketball fans absolutely adore a grinder. Okogie, Pat Bev, Mark Madsen. Randle will get a fanbase here quickly because he battles, it wont take long.

He's a different kind of grinder than those guys, but I absolutely agree with this. I think DiVincenzo has even more of that "Minnesota mentality" in him, to be honest.

Lol, not too many Italians in mn, but ddv is a dog. We traded a cat for 2 dogs. JU just may have his best basketball in front of him, while cat peaked early.

Just doubt we will be able to sign Ju unless he does a Brunson type of favor.

Mostly good video that explores Julius Randle's fit with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The best video I saw so far. Pay attention to Randle scoring highlights when he is playing as big pick-n-roll ballhandler with Robinson. You can easily see him doing it with Gobert. And his off ball movement, cuts. He will see such opportunities playing next Edwards. Remember, Randle is a 250lbs bully who knows how to score in paint.

I also have a few questions: when I saw last time Towns leading fastbreak attack? When last time I saw Towns actively cut without the ball? If Randle emulate Jokic in off ball movement MIN will be a much more dangerous team in halfcourt.

Read on Twitter

And one more thing: always keep in mind that for shooting we have Reid who according many stats is more than solid Towns replacement.

Another excellent video. First, note Randle ORtg with Mitchell Robinson, I can see why it might work with Gobert. Second, note his stats when he drives, it basically says that MIN have two elite slashers who can create and pass off the dribbling. Now Edwards and Randle can play this in turns. It is something that I am trying to understand since this trade was announced:

Our offense might finally have TWO slashers with multiple shooters arounds. In video above was mentioned that Towns is not neither naturally aggressive nor skilled slasher. It was not so evident in five-out, but with Gobert his straight line right hand drives were too predictable and he does not have footwork, body balance and creativity to counter defense. Also Randle plays on completely different level of physicality.

Plus now we have DDV.

Randle is just better at self-creation than Towns is. We saw in the Dallas series how big of a need this was, and it was definitely the No. 1 target of Connelly all offseason.

Randle's primary frontcourt partners
2015-16: Roy Hibbert
2016-17: Timofey Mozgov
2017-18: Brook Lopez
2018-19: Anthony Davis
2019-20: Taj Gibson
2020-21: Nerlens Noel
2021-22: Mitchell Robinson
2022-23: Mitchell Robinson
2023-24: Isaiah Hartenstein

Most of those are non-spacing bigs, so I don't understand the notion that he can't play with Gobert.

He might actually fit better and is a much more natural PF

Nothing against you Julius. We're a traumatized fanbase but we're willing to be proven wrong. Welcome to the team.

Looking at Randle's career, it's interesting to note how important his 3pt% is to whether he has an all-star type year or a relatively poor season. There's a pretty large gap in the advanced stats between the year's he's shot above 34% and those he didn't. I don't think he needs to be a great shooter, but he does need to get above a fairly low threshold.

This is where I am leaning as well. If we didn't have Rudy Gobert, I don't know if I do this trade. But with the roster as constructed? Absolutely I think this was an even swap at worst.
