+ Toppin runs really good in transition. And Wolves might be really dangerous in transition because all five players can run in transition
+ rim runner, lob threat. No one from our current bigs have this type of size/athleticsm
+ pick-n-roll potential. Might be beneficial for him to play next to DLo
+ rebounder, can provide some physical presence in post
+ locked for multiyear rookie contract

- not a good shooter
- inconsistent defender
- needs touches in offense to be effective

I'd trade Layman + lottery protected pick for Toppin in a heartbeat, not sure if Knicks want more.

I appreciate you posting the positives and negatives, but except for rebounding, his weaknesses seem exactly like the fit we need in a big.

Yes, he far from ideal fit, more project at this point.

What about Turner from Pacers? Pacers roster is proving to be a mess.

Turner next to Towns is ideal from a both being stretch bigs, but Turner has the defense Towns needs. Plenty of minutes to share at the 5, while Towns will get a little more run at PF (not ideal but fits his game).

Beasley + Prince + Bolmaro + 2022 1st + 2023 1st Swap

Turner | Towns | Reid
Towns | JV | Reid
McDaniels | Edwards | Okogie
Edwards | Russell | Nowell
Russell | Beverly (maybe he starts) | McJordan

Can we create a list of players who might be availabe?

I'd consider these guys:

Cousins (FA). Played well in NOP when Finch was there.
Aminu (FA). Before injures killed his career was considered a good defensive player.
Kuzma, Avjida, Bryant (WAS). WAS have Bertans, Kuzma, Bryant, Hachimura, Avjida
Bagley (SAC). Once a top pick, now close to bust
Siakam, Boucher (TOR). Barnes and AG are better, cheaper and have more potential than Siakam. Boucher has last year in contract
Toppin, Sims (NYK). Both Toppin and Sims are playing limited minutes behind Randle, Mitchel, Gibson (Noel)
Paul Reed (PHI). PHI are in win now mode, Reed barely plays
Mo Wagner (ORL). ORL have Bamba, Carter Jr, Isaac, Fr. Wagner
Love (CLE). No Country for Old Men in CLE
Tillie, Anderson (MEM). Tillie could not stay healthy, Anderson has last year in contract
WCS (DAL). I wonder why he has been so bad lately.
Jalen Smith (PHO). Out of rotation in PHX
Daniel Oturu, Marquese Chriss (???). Missed in action

Agree with this take. He's worth a flyer, but I'm not ready to give up a 1st for him. Could end up looking the Adreian Payne deal with ATL a few years ago.

It might be too early for teams to want to make a deal, but we should be able to move expiring contracts (Prince, Layman, Okogie) and/or one of our 3 2nd rounders for potential help.

Plus Kleber from Dallas, barely playing now. CLarke and Tillman from Memphis.

Certain teams will be desperate like Boston and unloading pieces like Nesmith and Pritchard.

If we can right the ship and team looks like it will stay in playoff contention, then I’m all for trying to improve around the margins.

I think there are options out there that won’t cost a first. For example, Sacramento had 4 bigs not playing last night, all of which could help us.

I respect this take, but in the case of Toppin from what I read and the clips I saw, he seems like a kid with massive upside who could fit our needs perfectly. As I said above he is like Vando but with more offense and some more weight. I know on paper V8 is 214 and Toppin is 220 but I don’t buy either number. V8 looks closer to 200 and Toppin seems closer to 225-230. I can see the immediate impact a high energy rebounder could have on the second unit, not to mention the easy transition buckets.

I worry about Toppin's lateral quickness and ability to defend in space. Having him next to Robinson or Noel is one thing, but having him next to Towns and Reid seems problematic.

Paul Reed got 15 minutes tonight. 3 OREB, 6 DREB, 2/5 FG 0-1 from deep. 4 points. Not the best showing but 9 REBS in 15 minutes could certainly help us.

Dude actually comes to play night in night out. Oh yeah, and he can pass and run an offense.

I feel like finding a big bruising PF shouldn’t be that hard, particularly since we don’t need him to score 15 a game.

The more I dwelled on it though, the more I realized is that the league just isn’t filled with “Derrick Favors-like” players any more. The new breed of PF’s seem to be 6-6 to 6-8, light, swingmen that like shooting three’s on the perimeter, not bangers underneath.

Does anyone have a way to search an NBA database on height and weight? I’d like to see a list of players 6-9 or taller, that weigh 240 or more. Are there any PF’s on that list?

If KAT does want out, Sacramento is probably the most ideal trade partner.

They'll still probably suck and thus have the most valuable picks.

Haliburton and picks would be the main trade piece. We could probably dump Russell to replace Haliburton as well and get a decent player or two.

KAT, DLo, Layman for

Haliburton, Bagley, Holmes, Hield and 3 1sts UFRP.

Negotiate for pick swaps and a few seconds and that's about as good of deal as we can get if we choose to dump Russell.

We'd be bad but they'd be bad too.

Yeah. League might not be but would think G League or overseas would have someone. I mean just a Vando with more size and moderate scoring.

From list that i think is doable. Cousins yes vet minimum easy. Bagley a bit more pricey but a top pick that if you just said focus on these two things could work. Toppin not sure feel like he was in the Wesley Johnson as college breakout late due to age/physical maturity. Reed yes. Mo Wagner possibly haven’t seen him play a lot. WCS yes. Smith if cheap worth the gamble. Oturu yes but see him more similar to KAT and Naz than ideal fit but brings size.

MIN: Derrick Favors
OUT: Taurean Prince and Jake Layman

Why for Minnesota? Shore up a massive rebounding and defensive hole at Power-Forward while freeing up a roster spot.

OKC: Taurean Prince and Jake Layman
OUT: Derrick Favors

Why for Oklahoma City? Save $10.2 million in salary next season.

KAT is worth a lot more than what you guys are talking about. Think what Morey is asking for Simmons, that is KAT’s minimum value.

Value is disproportionate to what's the context for each team.

What would you think we can get for KAT.

Personally I don't think he's worth what Anthony Davis was. Maybe half that value.
