When teams report it themselves, it usually means the deal is official.

It's official. No usually about it.

Deals can still fall apart if players fail physicals.

I don't know if it's just unfamiliarity, but I think people are majorly underselling both Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo.

I love that you know KBD facts “by heart!”

I think you’re right, moreso Randle than DDV. Knicks players get plenty of coverage, but I think outside fanbases have some misconceptions about Randle (like KAT), based on the talking heads. I think his three point shooting is a legitimate concern with Gobert on the team, but his passing and playmaking will help.
One thing that I think we went overboard on when the trade was announced was that many of us immediately thought, “Well, we’ll now just cut Randle next year, so we can sign Naz!” I know we love Naz, but Randle is a better player, and we’ll see this season if the fit works. One thing that made Randle a “less valuable to NYK than us,” trade asset is that the Knicks couldn’t afford Randle walking, and may have had leverage to get a 30% max deal. We don’t have to pay that, or anything, with Naz on the team.

He was one of my biggest hopes, similar to Naz Reid: 2nd round prospect with high potential. I also remember how whole scouting process was infected by finding a player with monster wingspan like KBD, Okogie. Damn, how far ago it was...

Re: Karl-Anthony Towns Traded to New York (Official Discussion Thread)
Why is this important? For those who think Randle could be used as a trade chip, this adds the following to the pool of players Minnesota could legally trade for in a 1-for-1 deal at the deadline, which would not have been not allowed without the bonus:
Immanuel Quickley
Khris Middleton
Jrue Holiday
Isaiah Hartenstein
Jerami Grant
Jordan Poole
Devin Vassell
Dejounte Murray
Kristaps Porzingis
Tyler Herro

Re: Karl-Anthony Towns Traded to New York (Official Discussion Thread)
Something weird is going on here though. I wondered why my numbers aren’t perfect, and the new salary for MIN isn’t a full 15% trade kicker.
$28,939,680 x 1.15 = $33,280,632
$28,939,680 is listed as leaving the Knicks, but Randle’s new salary here is listed at $33,073,920.
That’s a 14.3% trade kicker
And Katz is saying that he’s getting his full trade bonus of $4.13. 15% would be a bonus of $4.34

Definitely an interesting discrepancy. Probably not a huge deal for us as fans in the long run though.

Re: Karl-Anthony Towns Traded to New York (Official Discussion Thread)
Spoiler:
The issue is you are using the 15% off his base + likely incentives, while they don't get the trade kicker, only the base salary does.
NYK Randle contract:
Base | Likely bonus | Unlikely Bonus
$27,561,600 | $1,378,080 |$1,378,080
Cap number: $27,561,600 + $1,378,080 = $28,939,680 (unlikely excluded)
Minn Randle contract:
Base | Likely bonus | Unlikely Bonus. {x 1.15% for base only}
$31,695,840 | $1,378,080 |$1,378,080
Cap number: $31,695,840 + $1,378,080 = $33,073,920
Trade kicker: $4,134,240

Being the more talented player doesn’t always mean being the more productive or better player.

Nothing against Kat… deal should be good for both teams. It’s a basketball game with seriously overpaid players.
They can talk all they want about how tough it is for players involved and they are human. Let’s be real … deep down they all love the money and what happens - happens
