Well who else would take it from him? He's really alone as far as getting his own bucket. Everyone else fits more in a team concept of getting others involved and playing off of others. Nowell is in the Lou Williams/Jamal Crawford mold. Go get his.

Couple thoughts:

1. Nowell is good enough at passing that he can drive and kick. Corner 3s for any number of Wolves playing off of Nowell is very important.

2. With the staggered rotations it isn’t like there is a true bench unit. The actual instances where 5, or even 4 bench players share the floor should be rare (often injury or foul trouble driven.) But, Nowell and Prince should both thrive with reduced defensive attention given the offensive gravity of the big 4 (at least two of whom should be out there with them.)

Overall you are correct that Nowell is really the only option (outside of maybe Prince or Forbes,) to lead bench scoring. But the ways in which he contributes to the offense are not limited to his isolation game.

I really hope we can sign him and Jaden to team friendly deals before they blow up.

Correct me if I am wrong, but outside of the designated rookie max extension, we cannot extend Jaden before his fourth year, (unless I am missing something?)

Has there been any news/rumors about the Wolves actually giving Nowell an actual serious extension offer?

back in the summer there was some $3 mil/year offers speculation, but he's shown too much offensively for that to be considered

Right now 3 30 might get it done. I bet we can't do any better than that.

Guessing 3 for 39 or 42. Nowell has 10 good games maybe 15 and we rush to sign it. Wait too long that number could easily go to 3 for 45 or 48.

Yes and no. I looked up a bunch of numbers over the summer for sixth men on winning teams. For example Clarkson got 4 for 51 and change. You look at a guy like Sexton who just got 18 for 4. Nowell has 50/40/80 potential, finishes through contact, creates his own shot, and has combo guard handle and passing skills. I admit there is some speculation on my part, but it isn’t totally uneducated.

Lol, something like that. My biggest question is whether Nowell wants to leave because he is worried about getting stuck behind Dlo and Ant? If he thinks he is a starter level player he might want to be somewhere where he can prove it. Also I have questions about his relationship with Finch. All of that being true, this team is gonna be special, and he might want in on that. There is a lot of spotlight on a contender, and in 3 years he might get real money if he spends some time under bright national tv lights.

So far Jaylen looks really good scoring wise, though he's not much of a distributor. He's perfect as a scorer off the bench or a starting SG. He's needs the ball in his hands some but he's not a PG or even a backup PG.

I am not sure this is true. I will grant you he has done much drive and kick yet. But, we have seen his passing skills are good enough to do it. I wonder how much of what we are seeing is him following orders or competing for that bench scoring role. I am not saying you are wrong, I am saying that I wonder if regular season Nowell looks like preseason Nowell. Especially after Nowell is given the nod and the promise of regular rotation minutes for the foreseeable future.

99% of posters won’t like this but…

Let’s say DLo is trash, the weakest link, the one holding us back. We need to go out and find an elite PG. how though, we’re cash strapped?
Gobert
McD
Ant
Nowell
(PG)

We let DLo walk or trade at the deadline for someone else’s undesired expiring. We decide McD is better fit next to Gobert. Towns is great but has too many weaknesses to be worth his contract. So we trade towns for either an elite pg and picks or Scoot Henderson and filler.
Or we find a way to wipe out 2 max contracts and go big in free agency.
As much as people here love Towns, he’s actually the key to recouping assets should DLo suck and the Gobert Towns pairing is sub par.

Ant Gobert McD and an elite PG plus decent 3 and D role players is ultimately the way forward should the buddy ball guys fail to produce.
Nowell provides that insurance that we can lose both DLo and KAT and still only to find a PG.

Waht about different direction? Don't invest in elite PG (also there is not any available on the market, we made Gobert trade, but it happens once in a life), find average in terms of talent PG, but who gives 100% effort in defense, such as Tyus Jones, Monte Morris? I am a bit worried that when DLo is running offense Ant sometimes looks not interested. Give him and Towns the ball more, make offense run through them. My absolute pipe dream would be Alex Caruso, or Lonzo Ball type of big guard to shut down opponent perimeter star.

Let’s assume this happens, (I don’t see it, but for the sake of discussion,) are we assuming that KAT doesn’t have high trade value? You say he is the key to recouping assets, but what does that look like? Do you package KAT and Dlo in a 2 for 2 or 3 for 2 with someone else. Do you offer KAT and Dlo for FVV and Siakam with a little extra talent coming our way in the form of a role player upgrade (Rivers for X?) FVV is a clear upgrade to Dlo, and Siakam could play with Rudy. Toronto has Barnes, OG, and GTJ to make a damn good staring 5 with KAT and Dlo. If you don’t like my idea please insert a better one. I mean another way it could go is LAT and Dlo to the Suns, CP3 and Ayton elsewhere, and we get two players from the third team.

I wouldn’t assume we are suddenly a free agent destination. KAT is one of the few all NBA guys who wants to be here long term. Rudy was excited to come play with KAT. Whoever and however we make this trade for, we better be thinking long term.

Honestly, Nowell is great depth period. Like we saw against Miami, he can play beside Ant. PJ Dozier when healthy will likely be a Wolf. Beyond those 3 I don’t see a need for more.

That’s a good point actually. Having an offense more Kobe or Mj centric where the Pg is more defensive focused but can hits spot up shots at a decent clip is conceivable. Ala Derick Fisher and the rainbow 3s.

It is interesting that DLo has a hard time unless he’s a higher usage guy, but that in turn makes Ant disinterested as he’s not getting enough usage. Basically not enough ball for both DLo and Ant.
I see what you’re saying.

Could be tough to balance with Rudy. If Ant gets sick or hurt we still need offense on both lines.

Separate trades.
DLos trade would have to happen at the deadline. If he’s not working with Ant well. And just sucking it up, we offload him to a team trying to dump cap room.

Kats trade would happen predraft. That would be dependent on fit with Rudy and playoff performance (we’re a playoff team regardless of DLos performance and KAT + Rudy fit).

KAT honestly, should work well with Rudy in a more limited role this year. Hopefully more usage for Ant and KAT can be more of a spot up and pick and pop guy. Less iso ball for KAT, he’s horrible in those situations. His TO or Offensive foul rate in iso situations is atrocious. But I see his value as high, because regardless of his failures, some team will think they can unlock what we couldn’t.

Don’t want to go too far the trade hole.

Point was that Nowell and J McD make towns more expendable than DLo. But that’s not a necessarily bad as finding depth and a decent pg via trade of one or both of those guys shouldn’t be the hardest thing TC he done.
