Nets: Have to start somewhere, so they roll the dice on Beal. They get a couple of young, cost-controlled players as well.
Suns: Ecstatic to have relief from Beal's contract, the Suns add two dynamic, yet highly risky players to balance out their roster.
Pelicans: New Orleans has seen enough of Zion, and add a similar player to run in their system. They get decent value for Missi, and ultimately help themselves in the short and long terms.
Timberwolves: Get outstanding value for Rudy, Randle, and #17/#31. They also cut enough pay roll to extend Naz.

Nets IN: Bradley Beal, Brandon Boston Jr., and Oso Ighodaro (1st apron)

Pelicans IN: Randle, Garza, #17, #31 (1st apron)
OUT: Zion, Missi, Alvarado
Murray/CJ/Murphy III/Jones/Olynyk/Randle/FA C

Suns IN: Rudy and Zion (2nd apron)
OUT: KD, Beal, Oso Ighodaro
Allen/Booker/O'Neale/Zion/Rudy

Timberwolves IN: KD, Alvarado, Missi
OUT: Rudy, Randle, Garza, #17/#31
Mike/Alvarado/RD
Ant/DD/Clark
Jaden/Naz/TSJ
KD/Naz
Missi/Naz

I don't hate this one at all.

But the sticking point is why is Beal agreeing to go to Brooklyn?

Good question. The only way I can think this would pan out is if Beal gets ran out of Phoenix and wants a fresh start. I'm sure he isn't a fan favorite at this point. Hell, he might not mind going back to the east coast to a team with no expectations.

Are you allowed to trade Julius at this moment or do you have to wait until free agency opens?

You can, but he'd have to agree to opt-in to his player option. Or I believe agree to an extension, however it could get tricky with that.

Who would we rather keep if one of Rob or TJ have to be included in a trade? Who do we think will be better long-term? Would we be ok if both were traded?

I mean Rob is the much better prospect. I still think we are keeping both of them and high on both.

This is a really tough question because we need both guys to be productive core players on Rookie deals to help manage our Cap issues.

Based solely on what we've seen from both guys thus far, I'd probably rather hang on to TSJ at this point. The guy can flat out score the basketball and he brings great energy to the court.

With that said, when you factor in that Dilly was specifically drafted to eventually fill in our biggest hole on the roster, it would be hard to deal him away, too.

It would have to be a trade for a true difference maker at a position of need like Derrick White on a positive contract to move either guy IMO. Trading Dilly for another PG that would start for the next 4-5 years would ease my concerns.

Correct. The way to remember in general is that after the season, the only tradeable players are ones that have a contract with guaranteed money the next season. In other words, if a player might not be here next year, either because they are an expiring or have an option, they can’t be traded.

(unless the option is exercised, which can be made known before the new league year)

Yes, if a player exercises an option, it’s no longer and option and becomes guaranteed salary next year.

Last week, I mentioned the perils of locking into buy-low, sell-high folklore, as an economic action plan. While this certainly can lead to profit, buy/sell decisions should be based on what we expect in the future. Will a “sell high” guy get even higher next year, so you should keep him? Conversely, should you trade a player at a loss, if you expect he might get even worse value in the future?

That said, here’s a list of players who are worth more, and worth less, than they were at the start of last season.

Value Increased:
- Randle. Good close to season, and playoffs raised his value, and he may lock into a good contract
- McDaniels - started the season poorly, but showed flashes in the end, even PF possibilities
- Anthony Edwards - so he leads the NBA in three-pointers
- Terrence Shannon Jr. Good Playoffs
- Jaylen Clark - showed more in the regular season

Value Decreased
- Mike Conley. Just starting to get older, even as his deal expires.
- Naz Reid. Getting a new contract, and while he played well, showed need to improve rebounding and defense.
- Rudy Gobert - perception is that he got played off the floor. Needs someone to throw lobs.
- Rob Dillingham - needs more on court time. He couldn’t bring back an unprotected pick and swap today.
- Nickiel Alexander-Walker - good season, but no more $4.3 mil contract
- Josh Minott - one less year on rookie scale, lost his rotation minutes.

Keep in mind, as contracts get closer to expiring, their value approaches neutral. A bad contract is less bad when it’s a year shorter.

The proposed trade is as follows if you want to skip a listen;

MIN out; Julius Randle, Rudy Gobert, Donte DiVincenzo, Rob Dillingham, Nickeil Alexander-Walker (S&T)
MIN in; Kevin Durant, Nic Claxton, Lonzo Ball

PHO out; Kevin Durant
PHO in; Rudy Gobert, Donte DiVincenzo, Rob Dillingham

MIA out; Duncan Robinson/Andrew Wiggins ("spare parts" was their wording)
MIA in; Julius Randle

BRK out; Nic Claxton
BRK in; Duncan Robinson/Andrew Wiggins, picks

CHI out; Lonzo Ball
CHI in; Nickeil Alexander-Walker (S&T)

They don't mention where the "picks" going to the Nets come into play, although the spreadsheet they have after the fact includes both the 17th and 31st picks so it isn't our current picks

100%

This would even keep the tax payer MLE open so you could sign another PG (Tyus Jones?)
