No. Not if they don't get two free shots so often. So the number of singles will need to increase in order for Harden to get his 50s and such, for example.

Can't have superstar power if none of them can score over 25. Unless your name is Derrick Rose who can reach 50 with only 3 threes and 4 FTs.

Jedzz if Harden only gets one FT when fouled shooting a 3 but that one FT is worth 3 points he's going to score his 3 points.
Oh, didn't realize the FT was gonig to be worth 3. Excuse me for not paying attention to the details of your discussion. Watching a better game.

In that case you are correct sir.

It's cool.

What's not cool is that Nowell has been removed from playing at both Gleague and the Main team.

I like that Jmac and Martin have gotten good chances with the main team this season. But as high as I was on Martin I don't think he's shown very good consistency from low bench minutes over time this season. Out of all the young players this season with enough of something the team needed, I think Nowell got the worst burn in and I don't know why. I'm just not ok with it. The main team lost too many games to not see him get more time. He's the one player that could have made a real difference if given substantial minutes over even a three game stretch to try to get him to click into this level. Meanwhile Culver was handed everything for free. At least I know that's all about drafted position and nothing else. JMac was necessary due to injuries being a true PG. The amount of time Martin has gotten over Nowell maybe doesn't jive well with me. Not sure what the excuse was there except maybe his size/game IQ being needed with The Toe on vacation.

Wasted opportunity to find a shooter for this team. Now the team will be forced to pay Beasely whatever because they simply don't have enough higher level capable proven shooters from guard/wing roles. I'm high on Beasely but we needed such amazing trades to make that happen.

If you're asking why Martin over Nowell I think it's just a positional thing. Jaylen is a 2 that maybe you can slide to the 3 or the 1 in certain matchups. Kelan is a thicc 3 that can kind of slide down to the 4 and even up to the 2, again depending on matchups.

Given that we lost Layman (3/4) and still had Okogie (2/3), Wiggins (2/3) and Culver (1-3?) they probably just wanted more bulk on the wing.

I think you are right about all of that. Every bit of it. However Okogie being allowed to stink up the place from day 1 through January, and Culver being experimented at high minutes every single game and struggling often, and Wiggins being wiggins, these were all great reasons to give Nowell a few games of real time too during all the losing they were obviously fine with. I just don't agree with not finding out more about him at this level when they had plenty of time to do it with. And now with these last 30 games it looks like he's still not going to get anything at the main, and maybe now nothing in Gleague. It's a waste.

Now at the main we have Okogie looking better in the 3 role next to Beasely than he ever looked from a 2guard role. Why couldn't that have been tried earlier if they were willing to? I'm not likely to get over the wasted opportunity is all.

I get your frustration...you want to see first hand the potential of that possible 2nd round sleeper. I do almost get the sense that he's kind of getting shut down here...because they know what they have...like him for this system a bunch...& would rather take a pause on him to determine who stays out of the rest of the wings &/or set trade value for some of these guys....if they feel really good about Nowell into next season by playing him now...only takes trade value away from others that are likely on the move this summer? Clean the log jam of 2's out this summer....& my guess today...you have Beasley/Okogie/Nowell...as your 2's & Nowell given real opportunity to battle Okogie for meaningful run?

Year 1 of a 4-year deal. Only a wasted opportunity for the instant gratification generation.

Typical excuse machine response. At it again.

Josh Okogie and Culver are FRPs. That is the only reason they have gotten the time and leash they have been given. It begins and ends right there. Their play didn't demand it. Their skills haven't been increasing from the sheer amount of minutes. Both of them were signed to multiple year contracts and according to you, did not have to be forced minutes and developed so incorrectly. Of course I never heard you call everyone part of the instant gratification generation because they wanted them playing right away. Because of course, you were one of them that did and such an excuse doesn't fit any narrative of yours in those scenarios.

You can sit here claiming they've got 4 years to even attempt to utilize him as a shooter and meanwhile play half-players that can't shoot. As if that made any sense. As if ruining this season made any sense, except that it was probably Towns goal all along to blow it up for a trade for Dlo. Year 1 now toast. When year 2 is gone, all respect is gone and he won't be heard from here again. He'll be like Patton, moving on and will be lucky to get a chance elsewhere. It won't be here.

The waste is that no one will explain why Okogie had to hold such a role all season, through all the losing. His third season. We know who he is. They know him already. They can't claim defense. They weren't trying to win.

Another waste is no one explaining why Graham had to hold such a role through all the losing.

The waste is not giving Nowell similar shots that others got, because he could have become someone of value for the team in a move. Someone of value to this system if kept. And if he proved by play to not hint at any future value, then they would know that too. What good was all the losing they were fine with if not to get someone like this tested along the way. Wasted. Back to your empty excuses.

The problem is there was a logjam of worthlesss shooters in front of him by their choices already to start the season. This team chose and in doing so showed they haven't a clue what a player that can shoot for this system really looks like and how badly the team and this system needed it. They put past draft history and past player/coach relationships ahead of player assessments and in doing so have proven no better than the jokes we've had running things before.

Now there is another logjam and he's already outside of it. Not likely to change. People talking about time are forgetting that time with no playing will quickly start to mean he's no longer respected as an option here. It seems there will forever be a list of non shooters somehow in front of him. For a system that demands shooters to win. It's over. He was given those couple 4 minute shots in a couple games and he didn't shoot well so I guess it's on him.

Despite what you may think, I don't believe the coaching staff and front office have a personal vendetta against Nowell.

As for why Nowell isn't in Iowa, there's a rule in place that the NBA team can only assign a maximum of three NBA players to its G League team (this rule doesn't include players on 2-way contracts). Right now, those three players are Omari Spellman, Jacob Evans and Jarred Vanderbilt.

I didn't really pay any attention to him at all, but do you expect anything from Evans?

I was semi-hopeful after the trade despite the reviews out of San Francisco, but 3 points on 1-8 FG in his first game for Iowa isn't exactly a great first impression.

Yeah, as far as i can remember he's basically been a bust for GS and that is just showing it a little more for us. Sadly, he's still on the books for next year.

There you go again. Vendetta? Straw man. I don't want anything to do with your responses anymore. It's 80% pure nonsense.

As for the teams use of Nowell, they just put him in the Denver game. Basically only because Dlo was held out. But they are never going to give him a real shot at playing in games here. Okogie can't stop screwing up but he's constantly getting starts or high minutes here. Motor and draft pick position is enough I guess. Culver will always get more minutes. Martin got a nice run again tonight. McCanDo got another start with Dlo out.

GAME STARTS/MINUTES
McLaughlin: 2 starts 410 mins
Martin: 4 starts 416 mins
Reid: 2 starts 271 mins
Okogie: 19 starts 1300 mins (54 starts last season)
Culver: 35 starts 1315 mins
Crabbe: 0 starts 131 mins (9 games)
Graham: 20 starts 663 mins
Nowell: 0 starts 117 mins - This has to be the biggest collection of trash minutes ever. Maybe 40 minutes of that 117 was even decent low bench minutes in a game.

Nowell's first 5 to 7 minutes this Denver game was a single stretch and may have been his longest ever. The team with him playing caught up to Denver during this time. He's obvious not a big part of the offense not ever playing with these guys yet, but he creates good ball movement when he touches it and played good defense on the opposing guards.

17-41 Atlanta, btw, hasn't started Graham once yet but he has 140 minutes with them.

The Timberwolves are now 16-39. Cream isn't allowed to rise here through logjams. It only happens if injuries force it. Developing a player like this here isn't going to happen. They just don't respect the gameIQ he already has over players like Okogie/Culver to even want to give him a game with their minutes for once during this virtual tank job they are in. I don't see them bothering to retain him for even Gleague next season. Not with this little of respect in what he offers. This little thought put into his development or the teams needs.

Vanderbilt is getting called up. He will probably play a lot tomorrow if Naz and Hernangomez foul like they did today.

I came back to watch the Wolves after their big trade to see them get after it for the final 30 games with new personnel and getting other players playing time.

But it's just the same old Okgoie/Culver show, now with Towns out again, Dlo "resting" already. To see Nowell actually get in the Denver game was a surprise today, but it's the same old garbage treatment when the team is loaded with the same old garbage that got them to this record.

Was happy to see Mclaughlin and Martin's chances to play this season on both teams. But Nowell was the draw that had my interest and if he doesn't play Gleague I won't be watching that, and if he's never going to get real shots on the main, I'm done watching this season from either team. Hopefully Mclaughline can earn the backup PG role. Both Napier and Mclaughlin played well enough to earn 2nd PG role on this team. Even in today's game with a start and Mclaughlin playing well, I hear Pete talk about him as a possible third PG in the future. Nothing makes sense about this team. I suppose Pete is still seeing a future where the Wolves try to make Culver into a PG again next season. What the hell is the point of following this team that makes decisions like that?

Why? They never benched Towns for fouling too often.

Vanderbuilt should be brought up to be given a chance to play along with these guys against teams like Denver with monster bigs. But I don't care. Why not. Hpefully someone taught him how to shoot and he can bring a spark on both ends.

No I don't mean they're gonna get benched but be in foul trouble early on.

Which is something that Reid has to work on. Should come with time, hopefully like it did with Pek, but per36 he's at 7.1 fouls.

Iowa lost 152-148. They really do play a Timberwolves brand of ball.

I wonder why Spellman hasn't been called up yet he seems like he will be a good fit.

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
