They say that until they get him. Then 90% will say yes. It's a lot like so many Wolves fans saying they wouldn't trade McDaniels for Simmons. Being loyal to who you got now.

Yep. Fans almost always overate their talent and underate other teams talent. I am not sold on Simmons but I don't doubt he would be a massive upgrade over anything we have outside of Towns or Ant's potential. This is a DPOTY candidate player we haven't seen that here since KG. That's a massive addition. Logically McDaniels shouldn't even factor in to that, maybe not Edwards either. I will be sad if we lose some pieces but I'll going nuts rooting for Simmons as soon as the season starts (unless he's just awful for some reason).

I keep hearing DPOTY argument. If defense was so important why was Ben benched by Doc in crunch time? Maybe other things are more important. Individual defense is over rated. Team defense is much more important.

Philly is in a tough spot with Simmons. He wants out and they are going to have to settle for less than they think. I'll keep McDaniels. Of course if McD were as mediocre as you think he is why would Philly want him in the first place?

If the Wolves do include Russell in a trade for Simmons, I could see Towns becoming increasingly frustrated should the team miss out on the playoffs. Besides his friendship with Russell, he may begin, if he hasn't already, questioning Rosas for breaking up a team that clicked the final 20 or so games last year, especially if McDaniels is also a part of said deal. Due to injuries/COVID-19, Russell and Towns rarely played together on the court.

Because Doc is an overrated coach. Those Celtics teams should've won more than 1 title in 6 years. The Clippers consistently underachieved. And now the Sixers had arguably their most disappointing playoff run yet. Everything is coming up Doc.

I think the thing people are maybe forgetting most about Russell is the clutch (not Klutch) factor. He is our go-to guy with games on the line. Because it's more difficult to get bigs involved late, that would then fall mostly to Edwards. Not saying he's incapable, but that's a lot to ask of a second-year pro

Great add to the discussion Klomp: another great reason to try to get Simmons (if we really want to try) without giving up Dlo

otherwise it would have to involve the Sixers getting a PG from somewhere...We don't want young players and picks as the main compensation.

I'm sure you don't want KAT or Anthony Edwards. You just couldn't use them right?
I'm guessing you meant that we don't have any players you think we would give up that you want.
I think that too would be a mistake. Beasley is an amazing shooter and McDaniels might not start, but he would bring quality depth guarding forwards. We might be willing to trade Russell and with Simmons gone I believe you could use him. Also you wouldn't want any FRPs?

I meant players you're willing to trade.

Here’s my question for 76ers fans that post this opinion. Lillard and Beal are not being traded this offseason. Maybe at the deadline at the very earliest.

So, since they are not an option, would you prefer a package that includes more win-now pieces, something like Beasley, Russell (or three way getting you someone like Brogdon) but no picks or maybe one pick. Helps more now but eliminates you from a Lillard or Beal deal at the deadline because you probably don’t have the assets.

Or something like Beverly/Beasley and a boatload of picks/swaps. Doesn’t help as much now but gives you a bunch of currency when that star does become available. Portland/Washington are going to want picks if they trade their star because they’re going full rebuild, not as much players.

Assuming Portland, Sacramento and GSW are out, it seems like the other teams in our way are Toronto, Chicago, San Antonio and Indiana.

My question is, let’s say San Antonio and Indiana are the only teams willing to offer something for Ben. Is it possible that Ben (more like his agent) has communicated with the Pacers via back channels to say Ben doesn’t want to play there?

I think that’s the only way we would be able to win this. I just think there is one team out there who is willing to top our subpar package

Being honest, I would lower expectations. If a player of Lillard's (or even Beal's) caliber was on the table, Philadelphia would have already worked towards facilitating some kind of transaction. I say this as someone who pretty openly thinks that the majority of the Minnesota forum is completely unprepared for how much Ben Simmons will net, if a trade happens.

At the moment there is no tier1 star players who are available for PHI. However, tier2 players such as Brogdon, СJ McCollum are mentioned as possible targets. My scenario:

IND IN: Simmons, Maxey, MIN FRPs top5 protected
IND OUT: Sabonis, Brogdon

MIN IN: Sabonis
MIN OUT: Prince, Nowell, Layman, MIN three FRPs top5 protected

PHI IN: Brogdon, MIN two FRPs unprotected, two pick swaps, Nowell, Layman
PHI OUT: Simmons, Maxey

KAT/Reid/Sabonis + Knight
Sabonis/Vando/MCD
MCD/Edwards/Okogie
Edwards/Beasley/Bolmaro
DLo/Beverly + Wright

Why for MIN: while Sabonis ist not defensive minded PF we need, he is tough, smart, high IQ bigman. He would bring size, toughness. He can score in post, he can pass and rebound.
Why for IND: Turner+Simmons can be special defensive frontcourt.
Why for PHI: Brogdon, Prince and picks are good combination of win-now player, expiring and picks.

Or, we could ignore a semantic estimation that runs counter to most people’s opinion, and look at actual events, like Simmons shooting .342 FT% for the playoffs, and be an obvious target to intentionally foul? How could he keep him on the floor when that was Simmons actual performance?

You’re right. An opposing coach can get move great individual defender out of the play, and not factor into whether that possession scores. That same coach can force a poor free throw shooter to have all the impact on whether the next possession scores.

I think people who expect Simmons to make us a great defensive team are going to be disappointed. His impact as an individual defender would improve our team defense, but one 1st team All Defensive player, like Jimmy or RoCo, can’t do it alone. KAT, Russell, Beasley, and Ant will all have to improve a great deal for our team defense to be good.

Shrink is 100% right. Simmons was essentially unplayable last playoffs. He mentally broke. That is the ONLY reason he’s available at the current price. He’s a depressed asset. A guy that was really the only above average player on that Philly team besides Embiid, but was good enough to be the #1 seed in the East. He’s really really good.

You hope you get him at this lowered price and when play for Finch and his buddies, regains that confidence and plays at his top 20 player status again.

So do sixer fans ever look at it from another teams perspective? If they only want the other teams youngest bestest scorers while giving up a guy who literally can’t shoot…what team is going to go for that? Having Simmons be your cornerstone is hilarious.

What’s Portland going to do with Simmons and McCollum? We already know their current core gets beat in the first round basically every year. Rosas needs to just let Philly burn themselves within. Maybe remove mcdaniels if they don’t budge and replace his potential with fillers like layman and okogie.

This aligns with Krawczynski's info where he stated the Warriors like who they have (probably the same players Philly has asked about).

The rule changed about 5 years ago. If you intentionally foul under 2 minutes, the team gets a FT and the ball. Why was Doc taking out one of the best facilitators in the game in the last minutes?

Yeah I said that and addressed it. You really wouldn't want Beasley, McDaniels or first round picks? It's not out of the question that we would trade Russell, but kind of unlikely.

Believe Vegas over leaks to ransom journalists. Everyone is posturing, and I wouldn’t believe anything you read. Teams have to say no one is on the table, otherwise those players get their feeling hurt when they have to return to the team.

See Simmons being very publicly offered in the Harden talks as example number one.
