I can't remember a single coach in Minnesota sports during my lifetime that I didn't criticize or want better results from including legends like Tom Kelly and Cheryl Reeves.
Expectations can prevent you from appreciating great moments that fall short of a Championship as a fan.

The championship is all that matters. If they don't win the chip can their ass.

What is the greatest moment in Wolves history? I'd go with game 7 vs the Kings in 2004.

You're going kind of way off topic, that doesn't really belong in this thread. It would maybe fit in the top 10 wolves topic.

As a reply to Slim Tubby it was totally on topic. People should enjoy the good times rather than wanting the coaches head every year we don't win the title.

Tough to beat that but Game 7 against DEN last year is close.KGdaBom wrote:Slim Tubby wrote:I can't remember a single coach in Minnesota sports during my lifetime that I didn't criticize or want better results from including legends like Tom Kelly and Cheryl Reeves.

Coach Finch has led this team to more success in the last 2-3 years than all of the other Wolves coaches combined in our franchise history. I just don't understand the calls to replace him.
Finch has had to adjust to drastic changes to the core of the roster and make adjustments to mesh the new talent. Two (2) consecutive WCF appearances should show anyone paying attention that he's getting the job done.

Of course not he gets easily outclassed by head coaches like Jason freaking Kidd and OKC coach in wolves most important series. Finch is very average.
If Finch somehow wins a championship here, most wolves fan would want to keep him for life… even if he sucks and is completely average right after ,they would never be in favor of firing him like Denver did to Maloneexpections here are soo **** low it’s embarrassing.
It's more embarrassing to fire your most successful coach ever in a desperate attempt to win it all and most likely take a giant step backward.
How do you measure success? All Wolves coaches have failed if you want to talk titles. Also, each coach had a different roster so comparisons are a futile exercise. Honestly, Finch has the best roster of any Wolves coach: Ant in his prime and a GM who traded away every pick to improve the roster and went steep into luxury tax to improve roster. Finch was handed best roster and yet he failed like all his predecessors. I'm fine with firing Finch if Wolves can hire a better coach.

Bold 2 WCF finals in a row is success.

Re: The official fire Chris Finch thread
I think one of Chris Finch's greatest qualities is to zig when everyone else is zagging. It's easy to forget, but he has basically had to redesign his schemes four years in a row and he's made the playoffs four times and the WCF twice. You look at two of the coaches who lost jobs in this cycle, and that's a normal flaw for coaches, to get stuck in their ways or too stubborn to make changes.

Yeah, this effectively confirmed that Coach Finch will be back next season (as expected).

Yep. If the Wolves had any plans of getting rid of Finch then not allowing him to interview with another team would be nothing, but spiteful and in this case they would be cutting off their nose to spite their face.

While I agree Finch is likely coming back, I disagree with your assessment. Last time we did the job search with Ryan employed and immediately hired Finch. It could be true that TC is quietly looking and if who he wants is not available or will not conform to TC’s vision, that Finch is plan B. Yes it can certainly look petty if things work out that way. But it doesn’t have to actually be petty.

I think if he wasn't committed to Finch, he probably lets him interview. It would have been a way to keep his hands clean and go after the person he prefers. Plus we could probably ask for compensation if Finch was the Knicks guy.

Another factor is that Tim Connelly is HUGE on relationship building, as a POBO. It would be extremely uncharacteristic for him to hose Coach Finch by restricting him from other opportunities shortly before canning him.
Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
