Sunday’s Timberwolves-Nuggets second round NBA playoff Game 7 averaged a combined 4.1 rating and 8.41 million viewers across TNT (3.7, 7.51M) and truTV (0.41, 905K), marking the largest early round NBA playoff audience ever on TNT Sports (formerly Turner Sports). The previous high was 8.38 million for Magic-Celtics Game 7 in 2009. Keep in mind out-of-home viewing was not tracked in Nielsen estimates until 2020, meaning that 2009 game almost certainly averaged more viewers all things being equal. Minnesota’s comeback win, which peaked with 11.3 million viewers from 10:15-10:30 PM ET

This sports ratings blog mentioned how Timberwolves games ratings have been improving (vs last year) throughout the playoffs. I think lot of it is likely due to Ant's stardom exploding and your casual viewers getting to know him more.

Overall ratings have been 2nd best in last decade but down from last year...lot of it was due to Warriors-Lakers series last year which had best ratings for a 2nd round series in 25 years. Also no Warriors in playoffs this year and Lakers with an early exit had some impact.

2024 is the first year the Timberwolves won 6 awards, all with different players. What is even more special is that each of them is for one of our top 6.

1. Ant 2nd team All NBA
2. Karl: KAJ trophy
3. Rudy: DPOY
4. Conley: Teammate of the year
5. Jaden: 2nd team All Defense
6. Naz: 6MOY

Wow! I knew it was low and he’d made progress on his reactions to officials calls, but I didn’t know it was Mike-Conley low! I remember one, but I heard later it got rescinded.

I was listening to Dane yesterday, a couple podcasts back, and he did a long speech on how Towns is so bad at his reactions to ref calls, so it made me wonder. I wasn’t finding technicals on most sites, just a list of the players who had the most. Edwards tied Dillon Brooks to lead the league with 15. Gobert had 9 (t19th), McDaniels had 7 (25th) and SloMo and Naz each had 5 (53rd).

I think Towns is able to hold off in a way that avoids technicals better than he has in the past, but his whining I think still is embedded in officials' minds so it's hard for them to take his side seriously to where it changes how they call personal fouls against him, if that makes sense.

One dynamic that makes me very grateful about Towns-Edwards pairing is the way they make each other accountable. I remember Towns telling Edwards not to eat junk food, I remember Edwards telling Towns not to foul.

P.S. And I remember Conley telling both Towns and Edwards to put more effort and attention in game planning and preparation.

I just thought people would find this interesting, and couldn’t find a thread it really fit in.

Absolutely! This is another I like with this team is how people listen to each others and don’t have inflated egos many players have. They have talent, leadership.. future look good. I’m convinced we have few years where we will be on top 1-4 of the league.

What the numbers tell us with Joe Ingles is that he's a player who brings effective playmaking and efficient shooting on a low volume of usage. Very Mike Conley/Kyle Anderson in Chris Finch's sytem.

League leaders last season in assist rate-to-usage rate (minimum 1000 minutes)
1. Tyus Jones: 1.69
2. Chris Paul: 1.68
3. Kelly Olynyk: 1.63
4. Tre Jones: 1.62
5. Joe Ingles: 1.58
6. Mike Conley: 1.56
7. Draymond Green: 1.55
8. Kyle Anderson: 1.52
9. Tyrese Haliburton: 1.51
10. Kris Dunn: 1.50

League-leading "wings" in points per shot attempt last season (minimum 1000 minutes)
1. Grayson Allen: 1.354
2. Dante Exum: 1.308
3. Joe Ingles: 1.276
4. Isaiah Joe: 1.266
5. Corey Kispert: 1.248

These numbers for Ingles also just weren't a one year blip in Orlando -- he's been 97th percentile or higher in assist rate-to-usage rate amongst wings/forwards in 9 of the 10 years he's been in the league, and in 2020-21 Ingles led all wings/forwards in points per shot attempt (while playing with Rudy Gobert that year)

Wasn’t sure where to put this. I almost suggest it get sticky posted to the board. This is a good resource for height and reach.

Insomniac fun fact, Ant started in 5 playoff series while playing under his rookie contract. Is that a franchise record?

It has to be.

Timberwolves only had 11 Playoff series in their existence prior to Ant.

And KG's rookie contract was only 3 years.

I wasn’t sure if I should post this after the debacle that was SL game 3. But I couldn’t help myself, this fact is just unreal. Our game ran long by over 20 minutes because 75 free throws were attempted (44 by the 76ers and 31 by us,) on 67 foul calls. By comparison 68 free throws were attempted (43 by us, and 25 by the Pacers,) on 59 foul calls in game 2. All of this being true in a game 8 minutes shorter than a NBA game. Welcome to Summer League.

It's summer league for the refs too.

Literally. These are individuals who are auditioning for NBA jobs. Some probably feel pressure to make every call.
