I like Scheierman but not enough to trade up for him. I don’t see him lasting to 27. I’ll be okay with waiting for Tyler Smith (just 19) to develop, I think he has lottery talent and should be available at 27.

I like Smith as well. Does he go to the SF or PF though? I think of Miller as more a SF, but he's being pushed as a pf. Honestly, you are who you can guard, so I'm hoping they could be legit 3/4's combo guys.

Klomp wrote:I think going into the week-of, Baylor Scheierman is still my favorite prospect. There's just a lot for me to like there.

I think his overall game gets lost in the game because of his shooting ability, but he is a very good rebounder (in his last four years, averaged 8.5 rebounds per game). And while his A/TO numbers aren't elite, he's a pretty good passer, especially for his size. He played the role of a jumbo point guard at South Dakota State before transferring to Creighton.

Scheierman has been one of my favorite college guys to follow in the last ten years. He's a very good basketball player. There's just so much to like despite his lack of lateral quickness.

I'm still holding out hope for my guy, Terrance Shannon Jr., but we could do a lot worse than Baylor at 27.

Go Wolves!

A young Joe Ingles is my pipe dream: a physical, tough wing who can run pick and roll, defend and shoot.

Yes! Djurisic at 37 is my favorite pick for Minnesota. I’ve loved a lot of what I’ve seen from him.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

I've been keeping this comparison close to the vest just because it will be easy to misinterpret it, but I've got an interesting comp for Scheierman as an off-ball version of Luka Doncic.

It means nothing but Joe Ingles and Kyshawn George draft combine measurements are almost identical. In his best UTA season Ingles hit 43% of his pull-up threes, he is a much better shooter than I thought and unconventional defender.

Kyshawn George needs to study patented Ingles ball/pass fake in pick-n-roll situation and improve his body.

George is among my top targets. Young, good size and length, he played pg before his growth spurt as well. He might take a bit to develop but he has a lot of skill and could be a great piece.

Something is missing with George, he just doesn’t look very dynamic or athletic with quick burst. I think maybe he could be a slowmo like player though with a better shot but not as good a passer.

I can't get Thabo Sefolosha out of my mind when I think about him, for some reason

Trade down with Portland , end up with Tyler Smith, AJ Johnson and Nikola Djurisic. I’d be happy.
Adem Bona, Pelle Larson and Jamal Shead as undrafted free agents would be the cherry on top.

Nice read from Joe Hulbert about Nikola Djurisic. I wonder if Nikola can grow a bit, and become Joe Ingles 2.0. Djurisic is only 20yo, but he has European basketball school

Djurisic looks like a bust to me. “Drive first” is a perimeter player type we don’t need. Especially when his athleticism looks average, not to mention shooting.

At 27
Christie
Kolek
Schierman

I don't want Furphy

At 37
Shead
Boma

My perfect draft would be Christie at 27 and Shead at 37. Christie can give you some potential shooting off the bench right away while Jamal can easily slide into a backup PG position next year after having played 4 years in college and been totally responsible for orchestrating an offense. With Minott and Miller you've then got developmental prospects at every position but center, where you have no available playing time anyways.

Just my opinion.

One thing that seems to be pretty clear regarding Finch and Connelly, they do not go after undersized players. I would almost expect them to draft the guy who might be a year or two away, but fits their prototype, before they draft somebody who is a bit more NBA ready, but not their style. This is why I could see somebody like AJ Johnson sneaking in. Other guys fit that mold as well like a Kyshawn George, Cam Christie, etc.

Think what we need to target is Shooting, 2 way potential, high BBIQ guys.

Going to be hard to get all 3 at #27.

I think it is possible to move up to #22 or #23 with #37 this year, which is big-time if one of our Top 10-15 prospects are available around #22 or #23.

I am fully on the Baylor Scheierman, Tyler Kolek, Johnny Furphy and Cam Christie as targets for #27.

I wonder if that is going to hold true.

Previously we weren't a contender and we weren't in such a tough cash position. Basically we could afford to bring guys along slowly, hoping to unlock hidden gems.

But now, it feels like we need guys who can play right now. More of a Jaime Jaquez Jr. than a Leonard Miller.

I think if a guy fits the prototype and is ready it's a slam dunk. Also, no one knows what they seem in Clark.

That has mostly been in the second round, actually. In the first, we go for guys with a little more polish (save the Moore insults, I know)

"NBA ready": Walker Kessler, Wendell Moore
"A year away": Josh Minott, Leonard Miller, Matteo Spagnolo, Jaylen Clark
