random NBA fan, "why do European fans call us arrogant"?

If your girlfriend is more important than your dreams you are an idiot. that is all a pretty crappy excuse.

Joventut is very much a JV team compared to the NBA.
when your two leading scorers are bracey wright and pops mensu-bonsu, who are at their very best 14th or 15th on an nba roster, you are the definition of a JV team.
http://www.eurobasket.com/team.asp?Cntr ... =95&Page=3

louis freaking bullock, a reject 2nd round pick from the wolves, was 2nd in points and minutes for the "Yankees of Europe" Real Madrid. And you're telling me that's on par with the NBA? A league where another t-wolves reject 2nd rounder, Igor Rakocevic, is scoring champion?

you are a tool and you are arrogant to think you speak for european fans, and you're an idiot for not realizing joventut is JV compared to the NBA. Or maybe you are just mad because the NBA keeps stealing your best players.

Is that really what happened to him? 'Cause that's the most embarrassing thing I think I've ever heard in my life. "Sorry guys, I was gonna go play in the NBA, but my girlfriend says I can't leave the country..."

I don't watch a lot of euro ball, does Vazquez generally cry when he's on the receiving end of a hard foul?

Being discussed on Rube Chat, the account looks like it might be a fake.

Spanish IRS doesn't own anything. The team has used Rubio's buyout as guarantee of the debt, but if Rubio goes back no money.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4246467

On Tuesday, according to the Spanish news agency EFE, Rubio sued the team after learning that it had transferred the rights to his buyout to Hacienda, the Spanish version of the Internal Revenue Service. The rights were sold to satisfy a debt Joventut had with Hacienda.

avempace is right, and that EFE report is wrong. Joventut holds his rights. The buyout is only guaranteeing a debt. It's like you ask for a loan and use your house as a guarantee. It's still your house.

There's no need of talking crap on these players. Of course the best players in the world play in the NBA, but these guys have worked their asses really hard to become super-elite guys in Europe.

You have to consider that players improve over the years, and both Bullock and Rakocevic are better players now than they were in their NBA days (see Anthony Parker as example).

And especially, both fill a very particular profile that make them very succesful in Europe but not effective NBA players: they are scoring guards, not playmakers. Given their very limited size, both were used as point guards in the NBA, but they are not. In Europe you can play them as shooting guards and you won't get burned on defense. That's why Rubio can share the floor with 5-10 guys in Spain.

however well bullock and rakocevic would do in europe, they would get zero PT in the NBA, that is the point, not that they don't work hard or play well in europe.

It's really hard to gauge what's going to happen with the whole Rubio situation..Personally, I want to try out a Rubio/Flynn experiment and think it has a chance of success in the future but I don't think it's going to happen. I think if Rubio can get a cheaper buyout and decides to 100% commit to playing in Minny next season Flynn will be traded. I think we're waiting to make a move because we really want to keep Rubio but need to make sure he will play here. If Rubio says he's going back to Europe for a year I can definitely see us keeping both players. I think there is potential for both players to increase their value which would give us one more prepared PG(hopefully Rubio), and one valuable trade asset(hopefully Flynn). This whole thing is a giant chess match with so many variables. Lucky for us, Kahn seems to be a guy who looks at all the variables so he's ready for anything. Bottom line, I don't know if it's realistic to expect Flynn and Rubio in the backcourt next year. I hope they are both here, but if we get good value it won't be the end of the world if one is traded.

They didn't have anything to say. Just the same "Ricky Rubio is going to be knick because that's what the knicks want" BS that we have been hearing all week. The wolves and their wants never fact. The only thing that makes sense is for New York to be satisfied. We just have to decide if we want to bend over and lay back with the lights off.

He was interviewed when he arrived at the Spanish airport early today.

In the short interview he talked about the rumors about big euro teams (like R.Madrid) interested on him, and he said no way, he is so proud of being wanted by those teams, but he wants to go to the NBA, so it's either NBA or back to his current team for a year to renegotiate his buyout.

He said NBA, but never named any team in the short interview.

When asked about if going back to Spain for a year would be an step back in his career, he answered that it wouldn't be that, instead he could keep improving his game and gaining experience.

Here is the source (Spanish)
http://www.marca.com/2009/06/29/balonce ... 83775.html

More news about him, he has been called up today (as expected) to play in the European championship in September with the Spanish national team. It will be another chance to show what he can do, specially as Calderon has rejected to play to better heal his injury, so Rubio should have more minutes at PG.

I heard them talk about Rubio on PTI and Around the Horn(hate this show) and it was pretty much garbage.

PTI: They didn't think Rubio would play in Minny next season, but decided that it was a good draft pick for the value IF we get decent value in return for him. The other idiot thought Rubio would end up in Minnesota..... Seems to me that no one even thinks about whether or not NY has the assets to get it done...they don't.

Around the Horn: They were in unison that drafting Rubio was BAD for Minnesota. I think JA Adande talked about how we could get a good deal for him but the rest of them just trashed us saying;

-"Rubio said it's too cold in Minnesota.---------------said himself in an interview that he didn't care about the cold his mom did.
-"His Dad said he IS going back to Spain----------------said he might go back in truth

Looks like everyone is buying all of the journalist garbage being put out there and even twisting it to make Rubio seem negative towards Minnesota. I'm sick of it..

It's on the wiretap too, but here's the source if it wasn't posted already.

Apparently Rubio offers are coming from multiple teams. I take this as confirmation that Rubio's value is "shot."

Irony
Main article: Scare quotes

Another common use of quotation marks is to indicate or call attention to ironic or apologetic words:

He shared his “wisdom” with me.
The lunch lady plopped a glob of “food” onto my tray.

To avoid the potential for confusion between ironic quotes and direct quotations, some style guides specify single quotation marks for this usage, and double quotation marks for verbatim speech. Quotes indicating irony, or other special use, are sometimes called scare, sneer, shock, distance, or horror quotes. They are sometimes gestured in oral speech using air quotes.

I wish he would just put our minds at rest..... i dont care if we have to wait for him. I just want to hear the words "Im excited to play for Minnesota" then i wouldnt worry anymore.

I know the media has blown this out of proportion and rival teams are salivating ready to practically think they can take him for nothing but i just want to hear it out of his mouth instead of speculation....

Yea seriously. This is why I can't absolve Rubio of all of this. All he has to do is come out and say that he does not wish to be traded or that he is excited to play for the wolves. All he has to do is say that and 90 percent of this crap is out of the way. The fact that he hasn't released a statement like this is troubling. It makes me think that he really does have some strong reservations. If I was in his shoes and I really did plan on playing in Minnesota, I'd come out as soon as I heard about all the confusion and release something.

More news today on the poker game, DKV Joventut GM said yesterday in a radio interview that Ricky won't play for them next year unless he renounces to the lawsuit. DKV was already counting on the buyout cash to help their bad finances, they don't want Ricky back, specially after he filled the lawsuit against them, they want the cash instead.
