Ricky Rubio just punked the NBA and especially the Timberwolves.

I called this one out long ago. He owes a huge amount of money in a buyout, he is an 18 year old kid that has never lived away from home, and he has a group of people around him that are either taking advantage of him (Fegan) or that don't know what they are doing (his parents, obviously).

Unless he was drafted into the absolute perfect scenario, there was little chance for him to come over, although he misled the T-Wolves into thinking otherwise.

I think he kept his name in the draft of hoping that something would be worked out after he was picked. Maybe a trade to New York, Los Angeles, Miami...somewhere where the weather is warm (one of his mom's requirements) and on a good team that needed a PG.

If this doesn't happen he'll simply sign with one of the bigger clubs in Spain, with a big raise. So he is covered either way.

But the wake that this kid has left has been destructive. Lawsuits, burning bridges with the organization that developed him, royally screwing the T-Wolves and their fans...its been a non-stop tornado from this kid over the past few months.

Its a shame that he didn't merely wait another year or two, play out his contract the right way, come over a more mature basketball player and with more money in his pocket, and just be an adult and a professional about the whole situation.

This singleminded need to be in THIS draft was clearly the wrong way to approach things. I think ultimately its going to hurt his reputation badly. Hopefully it hurts Dan Fegan's as well, as this guy is one of the real jerks in the league.

I hope this works out for you guys, but I wouldn't expect it to end well. I'm guessing that you hold onto his rights and eventually trade it for nickels on the dollar.

The 500,000 dollar limit was put in place to prevent rich NBA teams from buying all the Euro talent by paying all their buyouts, but now this is impossible as it would require a 1st round draft pick first. It basically solves the Rubio problem, and could have solved the Splitter, Scola dilemmas as well. Thoughts on this?

You are not thinking that through. The NBA has that limit as an agreement with European clubs. Otherwise European clubs would never allow their players to be drafted. If the NBA does what you suggest then European players won't be in the draft anymore. So Rubio would have never even been possible for the Wolves at age 18 under what you suggest.

If your girlfriend is more important than your dreams you are an idiot. that is all a pretty crappy excuse.

Joventut is very much a JV team compared to the NBA.
when your two leading scorers are bracey wright and pops mensu-bonsu, who are at their very best 14th or 15th on an nba roster, you are the definition of a JV team.
http://www.eurobasket.com/team.asp?Cntr ... =95&Page=3

louis freaking bullock, a reject 2nd round pick from the wolves, was 2nd in points and minutes for the "Yankees of Europe" Real Madrid. And you're telling me that's on par with the NBA? A league where another t-wolves reject 2nd rounder, Igor Rakocevic, is scoring champion?

you are a tool and you are arrogant to think you speak for european fans, and you're an idiot for not realizing joventut is JV compared to the NBA. Or maybe you are just mad because the NBA keeps stealing your best players.

IGNORE list.

Is that really what happened to him? 'Cause that's the most embarrassing thing I think I've ever heard in my life. "Sorry guys, I was gonna go play in the NBA, but my girlfriend says I can't leave the country..."

Yes, that is what happened.

I still am shocked that fans defended his speech announcing he was declaring for the draft. That was blatantly ridiculous and showed what an immature and spoiled little brat Rubio is. It was far more selfish and prima donna like than anything Jennings has done. But no, NBA fans and Spanish fans were all defending his actions. If I was his coach or GM I would have kicked him off the team immediately after that stunt he pulled.

But this is all funny because for the last 3 years or so Rubio has had a pretty bad reputation in Europe as being a selfish me first brat. I guess NBA teams didn't do any background on him.

But you said you were done with this board!

And of course Rubio is spoiled, he's a mediteranian kid (i.e. mommy's boy) who was a sports star since sixteen and he's got looks to boot. Think young Cristiano Ronaldo.

But judging him for wanting to play in NBA ASAP is wrong. Transformation from Europe to NBA is no easy process and if he wants to fully realize his potential in the world's best basketball league, he have to come over when he's still a project. That way he'll be studying NBA ball firsthand, without having to re-learn things. Too many european players came to the league too late and wasted valuable years of their prime on transitional period (Petrovic comes to mind).

GreatRC mind me asking why you became a wolves fan when you have never been here? I assume it was sometime during the Garnett years.

Assburner is an idiot. Look who he chose as his 'evidence' - Marbury and Rider. Two of the biggest punks and headcases in league history.

Thanks for the original theory...that possibility had not yet been proposed by other non-MN fans yet on this board.

Yup. He gets a call-up, and he can't stop writing disses at MIN.

He fails to mention that we've had a harder time with players that get here, and don't want to leave/demand extensions. Or that we've never had more than the MLE to offer, so we don't know what kind of free agent destination MIN is.

Don't be such a sensitive Sally. If that is the only un-original part you took out of the post then I'd think you'd be thankful.

Wright hasn't done anything and Bucks fans no longer care who is better/worse between him and Yi so he must be setting up his troll shop here now. Or am I thinking of a different GSW poster?

You guys are acting like you just got plowed by the Minnesota Vikings.

Seriously, don't be so sensitive. If you don't like people coming here to share their opinion on the matter then lock the thread.

I'm not bothered by your comments, but I think you're wrong. Rubio will end up coming here because he has to if he wants to play in the NBA.

He's not being sensitive, he's just bored with the same regurgitation. If somebody posts on the GSW board about whether AR is a SF or a PF or says GSW effed up the Ellis situation you'd feel the same way. It's not new information, it's not insightful, it's not helpful, it's just repetition ad nauseum.

Seriously, take a minute to read the thread and see what has already been posted 300 times.

-He's hoping for a trade to a big market
-His mom doesnt like cold weather
-He might just stay in Spain
-Wolves will probably trade him for nickels on the dollar

If you're not posting anything original you're really not posting anything of value.
