Re: Official Anthony Edwards Thread
No rookie has really stood out to me, but Lamelo has had games where i'm like "woah", Haliburton looks goo as well.
Every top 10 rook has had a bad game, but Edwards hasn't looked good since that end of game turnover against the Spurs

Thoughts of this future maybe.
realGM article Jan 23rd
James Borrego explained his decision to play LaMelo Ball just 16 minutes on Friday night, citing his turnovers.
“If you’re turning the ball over five times in 16 minutes, that ain’t gonna cut it for me. If you’re doing that on the offensive end, you better be bringing something defensively," said Borrego following their 123-110 loss to the Bulls.
Ball finished the game with 7 points and 2 assists.
Ball, who said he was "rushing a lot of stuff," agreed that he had struggled the last two games.
“Last two games, I don’t think I’ve been doing real well. I’m going to try to amp it up a little next game.”
He's going to "amp it up" to clean it up.
15 games or so into the season is a little early for us all to be freaking out either way on players. But sure there has been a difference in those capable of showing something early. But they all had question marks for a reason and we are going to see those play out. I blame the teams for rushing the ones not ready for this much. Dialing players back works towards accountability and pushing them to be better.

This organization has no identity nor has it never established its own competent leadership ... it glows in the W/L column. AGAIN - they’ve proven unable to identify and acquire a prospective player who has legitimate skill and leadership qualities to better thIs team. I know they tried to trade out of the pick, but safe to say they shoulda said “yes” to one of the offers.

Unfortunately, the other aspects of his game have been trending in the wrong direction. If I had one suggestion for Edwards it would be to focus almost completely on defense and rebounding, if he could establish himself as even an average defender and rebounder it would make a huge difference.
My suggestion is to send Edwards to the G-League for the next 3 weeks. He would get another week of "training camp" and then could play games against lesser competition to try to figure out how he can be successful.
He's actually shown he can be a good defender and passer, we've seen the flashes..the recent one I can remember the most is on Derozan.
He hasn't shown me anything on rebounding, though.
He needs to work hard on his handle and off ball movement this off season

I don't disagree that Edwards could be a good defender, he just needs a lot of work. He has the ability to be a great one-on-one defender, the problem is with his team defense. He is far to often out of position, late to rotate, or misses his guy cutting to the basket. That hopefully will come with time and I see a G-League stint as a way of accelerating the process. He could get more practice time (a second training camp) as well as playing a lot more minutes during games.

Donovan Mitchell 100%.
And yeah, where are the haters now? A lot of hate when he was missing shots, but no love now that Edwards has been doing well?

I'm happy with the improvement.
I'm still in the melo Wiseman camp.
I will be delighted if I have to fall on my sword.

why? The question was 'stylistcally' not talent or upside.
and Maggette wasn't a bad player by any means. Strong, versatile scorer, good touch around the rim, could've been a multiple allstar if he hadn't played for the Clippers in his prime.

Re: Official Anthony Edwards Thread
That was amazing derives and around the back layups he kept doing. Super impressive. I seen him being hot on shooting, good passing, but not so much consistently good at derives.
He was beeming and playing with so much hunger, must be because he is starting for the first time. And that he can get his shots off better and more space on drives when he is on court with Beasley and Dlo so much, compared to non shooters.

Re: Official Anthony Edwards Thread
I'm going to make this a poll once I figure out how to do that.
1: Was last night's game his best
A: Yes
B: No
2: How many better ones will he have before his career is over
A: 0
B: 5
C: 10
D: 50
E: 100
F: more than 100

That spin move he pulled gave me Wiggins vibes. But the good kind, back when we hoped he could be more.
Otherwise it's tough. I can't think of many that have been as jacked as he is at his size. Like he's far bigger than Mitchell or Wade in that respect, so he can play bully ball that they couldn't. And yet he's got some of their smoothness and athleticism to his game too.

Re: Official Anthony Edwards Thread
Fallen to the 2nd page... I've never seen a fanbase so unexcited about a rookie so talented and showing signs of future stardom, especially when there's not much else to be excited about. I guess it's about the overall apathy, but it's also about too many people who have already committed themselves to not liking him and not wanting to switch into a different gear now. 22/2/4/2/2 on 8/19 should warrant at least a couple of posts in a rookie's thread.
I'm at peace with the fact that I'm always gonna come back when the new season starts, no matter how bleak the future might look like, so might as well focus on the young talent that awaits us at that point instead of hating on the FO, coaching staff, holes in the roster and mediocre vets.

Re: Official Anthony Edwards Thread
I think Edwards has a chance to be an elite scorer. I would still take him second in the draft, ahead of Wiseman. He no doubt will average 20ppg. The question is whether that scoring will impact winning. That is a question for the future after we see how it develops.
I’m still struggling with the fact Rosas’ moves saddled us with Russell, likely no early lotto pick this year, and we passed on Ball. I was a HUGE Ball believer before the draft and I haven’t seen anything that makes me think less of him. I’m confident in 3-5 years he’s a top 10-15 NBA player that affects winning even more than his stats, which will be near triple double, suggest.
Have to get over that. I just don’t think that’ll happen until we get new mgmt/coaching in here and hopefully new owner. Some of the young piece do look nice in Edwards, McDaniels, Nowell, etc.

Re: Official Anthony Edwards Thread
His shooting has improved as a starter. He seems more selective.
But since the beginning of the season, I've been most optimistic about his passing potential. He just seemed to refuse to do it earlier. Maybe the game is slowing down a bit now? He's playing less garbage time with other bench guys? He's starting to figure out shot selection a bit? Starting to realize the importance of passing?
In any event... he has 24 assists in 7 games as a starter... and only 4 TOs.

Re: Official Anthony Edwards Thread
and many of his assists were quality assists. He's already able to collaps defenses with his drives and now he's becoming more aware with his passing options in these situations. his kick out passes can develop into a real weapon and reinforce the effiency on his drives, since the defenders learn, that they can't overhelp on Edwards, which is giving him more room to operate. It's a really great development.
