Re: Who won't be on the team in a week?
Rosas wanted to trade the first pick because of the risk and the uncertainty in terms of talent and potential. The way Edwards plays it's very very very unlikely we trade him (and rightfully so). Let alone for a complemantary piece.

Why rightfully so? The thoughts on trading the #1 for Wolves prior to draft was in reality that most young draft picks take time to become really useful and this team needed to get more proven players to work with Three guys that were ready to produce. The fact it didn't get traded I suggest had more to do with the uncertainty about the players hyped at the top of that draft from other teams. If you think he's shown something now, that means other teams might feel less concerned about that pick being a total bust. So now finding a trade partner might finally be feasible and I'll argue that has been the reason for forcing him into roles he was when the season started. To get this result out of him and show he could become something special. It's still a risk, but less of one than drafting a total bust who shows nothing that teams were maybe concerned about the chance of.

Hes the no.1 pick and has shown enough to be worth developing. And he seems to be a good kid. You simply arent going to get a good return because of his salary. Gordon is not the type of guy you trade a recent number 1 pick for. And the Magic will certainly not give up a top 5 pick in this upcoming draft because its reputed to be THAT good. They will also not give up a pick in the following draft because its the first double draft which will also make it top heavy.
Wolves are not in the position to be selling young upside to get older. Ant is part of the foundation along with KAT. Everyone else should be expendable.
DLO is the guy to drop, but no one will take him without a sweetener. So, Rosas is going to get stuck having to trade the better player in Beasley.

Personally, I would test the waters for KAt, but only with GS.
ANT
Wiseman
Cade/Suggs/Kuminga/Green
Emoni Bates/Chet
Would be an awesome and I mean awesome starting core.

Wovles are in the position to be selling young upside players. They don't have to get OLD to do so. They can get older and that was the plan before the draft, to get the players average around 25/26/27 instead of 19-21. Players that have already developed.
Dlo is better than you give him credit for. I'll argue untill blue the point of throwing Edwards into such a huge role early on and thus destroying both our vet PG roles early was indeed to showcase Edwards early play for a desired trade option they could not get predraft with questions about these top prospects and fears of Busts.
Because he was the #1 pick and has shown flashes, now the fears of total busts can subside from other teams and now a trade option resumes for a team that had Dlo, Beasley, Towns all ready to go and just needed one more true starter that fit here to take the next step in building this.
I have no idea what you are talking about not getting a return due to his salary. Backwards there.
Once you begin to be ok with this idea, you realize he's one of the trade options on this team that does have value now. That's why they played him to prove flashes do exist for him of high potential To create that tradeable value. This draft wasn't like 2014 where people believed in Wiggins, but Cleveland still traded Wiggins for a proven vet for a reason. Sure enough Wiggins won ROY. How did Wolves get him if top pocks are untradeable?

good luck with that happening
they all being what your imagination says they are
even how they would play together
...or that this gm will be around and a new one wouldn't just trade two right off the bat so he didn't have 4 rookies or second year guys starting and staring at 5 years of losing.

Cleveland was one player away from a championship, and maybe just as important, LeBron demanded they make that trade.
Minnesota doesn’t have enough talent, and we aren’t a free agent destination. They need to find a lot of that talent through internal growth of young players, particularly with two max deals on the books. Anthony Edwards has more upside than anyone on the team.
Trades of any lottery players are rare mid-season, and I can’t recall this ever happening to the #1 pick.
I’m pretty comfortable saying Towns, Edwards, and probably DLo are not getting traded at the deadline. The rest? I have no idea.

It's trade deadline week!
My current ranking of Wolves players who will be traded
1. Hernangomez
2. Culver
3. Davis
4. Beasley
5. Rubio.
I personally think Rubio and Beasley now stay. I also feel Minnesota will trade its 2022 second round pick as part of a deal to move HGomez or Culver for an expiring.

Some of what you are saying is true, some of it I won't agree with, but the team can't keep sending away the good players on good contracts they were able to achieve through trades just because they are the only ones with value. They can't just expect to draft a single new hope each year that gives them 4 more years of waiting cushion with their fans. They sent Roco away. They can't finally bring in a piece they've been missing for 5 years, get him on a good deal, and then trade him away to fill a different hole. That is sideways movement not upwards movement.
So many are talking about using Beasley the same way now as they did Roco. This isn't how a team that can't attract free agents should operate. They need the targeted and traded in good players, the lucky finds, and the draft developed players mix and they have to be careful about that mix. Random talent collecting is nothing more then rebuilding talk. When someone claims the team doesn't have enough talent I don't think they are being correct. They just have the wrong fit of talents. There is no lack of first round talent on the team. Moves can be made to get the right fit, but again, what players can you send out that don't just push you sideways or backwards. It's the rookie and young players that have interest from other teams. We haven't realized their full potential yet and won't for years, so moving them doesn't break your team down. You get more back in their expected projected value than what they currently give you.
Someone posted this in the general forum but you are either developing or you are building and it maybe doesn't work to do both. My opinion is it doesn't pay to do both for very long at the very least. They either decide to build around Towns/Dlo/Beasley or Towns/Dlo/Foward, or trade them and start amassing for a new core. What point is there in drafting non fits with these players and tanking everyone's value while developing? You might as well trade y our max players and stop pretending you have a core.

Exactly I have yes. We won't realize his full potential for 4 or more years. But you can get a lot of that expected potential in value back from another team willing to wait and who is otherwise admitting more to a full rebuild. That helps this team put players that fit with this current core better that is already more developed and consistent.
Who else can do that for you without hurting your talent and moving sideways? Only the #1 pick has that kind of clout and if he's flashed enough to erase doubts people had in this drafts upper value. If he's done enough, it's time to collect on that. If he hasn't, get ready for a full rebuild. Because he's a non fit with half the guards, at minimum they should be moved if not him. And because he's going to be an inconsistent young player for a few years, you might as well trade Kat if you are going to call Edwards untradeable. Because this isn't the Wiggins/Towns near same age rising stars story. Two more years of bottom of the league results and Towns is gone and you wasted it all just for a choice to be forever developing and sideways movements.

No one ever claimed the Timberwolves often make the right choice. I'm just suggesting one.

Re: Who won't be on the team in a week?
Just heard that Atlanta wanted Beasley and a 1st rounder for Collins. The wolves said no. I think it would cost too much to get him or Griffin. If we didn't trade our pick this year we would probably be more willing to part with one. I don't like the idea of maxing Collins and having Dlo maxed too.
I think if we bring in another max player we need to get a high-value max contract guy. Can't have two sub-par max guys IMO. Thinking its more likely we make some fringe trades with low-value guys and try to do something this off-season. I don't see us bringing in a big name.

I was under the impression that this thread is about what we think Rosas WILL do, and not what we personally think Rosas SHOULD do.
Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
