People will twist themselves in knots to be “anti cancel culture warriors.” Honestly I find it pretty pathetic that the defense of Miles Bridges in this thread is “you don’t want him to provide for his kids?” Are you sick in the head? He is accused of abusing his kid. Yes, I hope if found guilty they take all of his money away and give it to his kid.
People are ready to forgive him and want to sympathize for abusing people before he is even punished

Re: Around the league 22/23
This is a slight tangent, but I stopped listening to the podcast “10,000 Lay Ups” this week for a similar reason.
The two young hosts wanted to talk about Robert Sarver, and even read his statement about selling the teams
Their response was, “Where’s the apology?!?”
And the co-host said something about how little self-awareness Sarver had!
Look, I don’t know if Sarver is a good or bad dude, and I didn’t read much about the investigation, except for some of it coming from a roast? I haven’t liked him in the past because he was cheap, but his history had been that he had been a strong advocate for making black hires, including hiring a very young James Jones as his GM - the guy he will interact with most. I’m not going to make a judgement on Sarver. But I found it jaw dropping that neither host realized that they were exactly the type of people Sarver was talking about. There is no acknowledgement of foregiveness, no thought of redemption, or even a moment of recognition of what he said .. simply “where’s my apology?” as a canceled person gets exited out the door.
The hosts calling out someone else for lacking “self awareness” was the height of hypocrisy to me, and I doubt that people that can’t be self-critical can provide legitimate info I would appreciate. I unsubscribed, but I doubt they will exist long - unaware people can’t exist in the environment they are creating.

"As a man of faith, I believe in atonement and the path to forgiveness. I expected that the commissioner's one-year suspension would provide the time for me to focus, make amends and remove my personal controversy from the teams that I and so many fans love.
“But in our current unforgiving climate, it has become painfully clear that that is no longer possible – that whatever good I have done, or could still do, is outweighed by things I have said in the past. For those reasons, I am beginning the process of seeking buyers for the Suns and Mercury.

It's my nature to forgive. I think it's a strength. Some would think it's a weakness. I'll do my forgiving of him once it gets to the point of him being in need of forgiveness.
My attitude is if he's found innocent that's the end of it. If he's found guilty he does the time and that's the end of it. If he goes to prison for 4-6-12 years I'm not going to want to pile on after he gets out. That's just me.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. The lack of mercy for one another is the #1 reason why we have such a polarized society.
People used to realize that change comes from changing hearts and minds and that mercy is a prime necessity in that process.
Now its scorched earth all the time.
Specifically about Sarver, i don't know, he comes off as a jerk, but from what I am able to gather, it doesn't look like it merits going full cancel culture.
They interviewed 320 people and sifted through 80,000 documents and the most evidence of racism they could find was him quoting someone else saying the N word? That apparently cancels out hiring 6 black coaches and a black GM?
If media (and podcasters are media) want to discuss him and his situation, they should get into specifics and not just throw him into the trash can.

From what I could find, the child abuse charges are because he abused a parent in front of her children.
Not because he struck the children.
He is accused of doing something very bad. He is going to pay for it. Is he supposed to crawl into a hole and die now?
Those kids not only went through something traumatic, they are also losing their father.
Forget basketball, I am rooting for him to turn his life around and that justice is fairly served.

Two of the 3 charges he's facing are directly for child abuse. So the kids are probably better off losing their "father", if true.

You were literally just chastising people because they didn’t want him to feed his kids even if found guilty lol

He wasn’t just “quoting someone using the N word” he was wondering why he couldn’t say the N word while black people could lol.
With some of the testimony coming from those black coaches he hired

Yeah he should crawl in a hole and die, this is what the POS got caught doing, not what he's actually done. Domestic abuse isnt punished as heavily as it should be. He's a 240 lb man beating on a woman and traumatizin his children there is no excuse.

The abuse of the children is alleged as psychological. I think you have the perfect attitude as it is pretty much the same as mine.

I made no chastisement literal or otherwise. I was just asking the question. Is taking away a persons best means of making a living a good solution to people who do bad things.

The best solution IF he's guilty of anything is him reforming and becoming a great father.

What oppressive systems do I uphold???? I'm really curious to know. I'm all for the dismantling of America's two largest oppressive systems. Otherwise known as the Republican and Democratic parties.

Ultimately that's not up to him anymore. The only ones that should have a say in whether their relationship continues is the children, ideally after therapy has helped them process everything.
People aren't entitled to second chances nor do they inherently deserve them. If he works on it and the people he wronged choose to forgive him, sure, that'd be a great outcome. Doesn't mean it will (or should) happen.
Either way this will be my last comment on this. Klomp's right about a lock looming and frankly this isn't the sort of topic I generally enjoy talking about, especially not with people that hold viewpoints like yours.
