Re: Karl-Anthony Towns Traded to New York (Official Discussion Thread)
The Wolves’ perspective on this, as I can gather on a Friday night, is they like the optionality this trade gives them in the Anthony Edwards window — and the added opportunity within that time that it grants Naz Reid and Jaden McDaniels, who should be peaking at the same time as Ant.
Making this trade doesn’t necessarily save money, but it could provide financial optionality over the next few years into Ant’s prime. The Wolves felt they needed to not be locked into one path with Ant.
The question will be how much the trade off from Karl-Anthony Towns to Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo costs them in terms of production in the immediate.
New York’s more recent willingness to include DiVincenzo, along with the 1st via Detroit, is what activated these trade talks. The Wolves pursued DiVincenzo during his 2023 free agency and are big fans of his.

His makes sense, yours doesn't. Jokes need to make sense.
I know. Mine is based on what ARod and Lore actually said. That reality won’t make sense to you.
Let's be honest here, neither of those groups was paying the luxury tax next season.

TC is a joke of a GM. This doomed the Wolves. We'll be lucky to win the same amount of games as last year.
The Wolves are doomed, Ant asks out after next year and we will be relegated to the lottery for the next decade.
Anyone celebrating this move is a moron.
No **** assets, Randle and Rudy can leave after next year and our spacing got even worse.
**** joke. All this to correct the Gobert move. What a joke.

Just doesn't make any sense. It makes my head hurts trying to think how they will play offense. I supposed defense should be better.
KAT was such a premadonna that if he didn't get his, it negatively affects how we used to play. Guy was good for a shot when needed, but his selfish demeanor throws off team ball.
There will be a freshness with ANT and the rest of the guys..

Randle 3pt shooting alternates every season, he's in line for his "good" year at least

Looking more closely this is not necessary a bad deal. kAT was the image of the wolves before ANT came so I can understand old fan feeling. But Randle will bring scoring decent défense more passing and Di Vincenzo is a great shooter…. If they find the chemistry it may be a winning formula. Let’s see.

I mean we didn’t trade Towns just for Donte Divecenzo, Randle matters, it’s both.

Divencenzo might be a one year wonder and he wasn’t great in the playoffs this past season either.

Does this open the door for something else? Is Ant trying to convince TC to bring KD in??
I’m not saying I want this just a thought

KAT made more sense for Durant than any other package we could trade now. Now that’s a move I would’ve been okay with.
Run n point that .32 make em sicker than magic

I think one big thing this does in the short term is likely takes Dillingham out of the regular rotation. As far as our on-court success this year, that's probably a win.

Right, it's both. Most of the talk seems to be centered around the two Kentucky alums as if it's a 1-for-1.

Re: Karl-Anthony Towns Traded to New York (Official Discussion Thread)
My first reaction:
1. WHERE ARE ALL THE PICKS? One garbage Detroit pick that will likely become a 2nd rounder? When we owe 4 of our own firsts through 2031?
2. Julius Randle is one of the players in the league I LEAST wanted to add to this team.
Ugh. You replace a highly efficient injury prone player with defensive questions with a highly inefficient injury prone player with defensive questions. BARF BARF BARF.
Part of me wants to just stretch his contract and be done with it.
3. KAT's trade value must have been a LOT lower than we suspected due to the contract and injury history.
He's kinda starting to look cooked already at soon to be 29, with 9 years and a lot of miles on him.
We may look at this in hindsight as the right move down the road, even if the return is atrocious.
4. I like Divencenzo, adding a guy who shot 40% from deep on 3.5 makes per game should really help our offense.
And the contract will be a great value going forward.
But we could have signed him as a free agent last summer with a bit more luck.
This is the centerpiece to a KAT trade?
5. This opens the door to Naz re-signing next summer. Randle can leave via player option, and if he picks it up we can just stretch him.
6. KAT is the big winner in this trade. He should be able to get back to being a post player who thrives in the paint on the Knicks and should have plenty of shooters around him.
But the pressure will be immense, both from the market and going from a players coach in Finch back to a screamer in Thibs.
Not so sure this trade will be a big win for the Knicks, KAT brings plenty of issues with him.

If I busted my ass for this dog **** franchise over 9 years with 5 different coaches, terrible teammates outside of these past two years, and then at our peak get traded I'd be speechless too.
Especially if it was almost impossible to get good looks in the post because said franchise traded for another "star" player at my same position, and said star player was so limited offensively a core part of my game had to be changed.
Yeah I'd be **** speechless.
Outside of KG, KAT was the only star that didn't ask out or leave and we treated him like ****.
So take your clear disdain for him somewhere else. Loyalty matters, we have none. This probably has rocked me just as much as the Rubio trade/ Jimmy trades. And just like the Jimmy era, nothing good will of trading for a PF who can't space well.

A big part of that is Bridges is on a bargain contract and KAT is on a hideous contract.
Bridges is also a 2 way player.
But Randle just plain sucks.
Please send him out to a 3rd team.
