Ben Simmons Thread #2 (“Don’t make me contact Howard” Edition)
Cant believe people on here still talk about that pxssy Simmons.
A deal for him would even be detrimental for the team. Simmons is no good without the ball in his hands and cant shoot.
And you guys want to get another ball hog like D-Lo who is taking the ball out of Edwards hands? LOL.

A team that has made the playoffs once in 17 years...
I believe that we shouldn't be selling the farm to get him and i would be annoyed if we trade 3-5 years worth of first rounders for him.
Elite D at the point of attack instantly makes KAT and the teams D better. From this perspective, it optimizes our #1 player and our team defensively.
I say get him, but not to disrupt/hamstring our future with ANT and JMAC.

You're simply uninformed, Simmons is one of the best cutters and screeners in the league, isn't useless without the ball at all.

Surprise, Wolves want to acquire someone who can't shoot. I'd rather see them try to get Malcolm Brogdon or FVV with their assets.

Have you actually watched him?
I don't like him that much in terms of his weaknesses and attitude but he brings several things to our team at the PF position that we've lacked for years.
I'm not saying give up Ant, Dlo, or even McDaniel, but if you think he wouldn't be a valuable team member maybe you should check yourself.

We literally have the best shooting team we've ever had. What are you on about?
Nearly everyone in our starting lineup can shoot threes and our bench can too. Where have you been?

Ben Simmon's is due for his payment, but his payment is based on games played (the current payment structure was a negotiated advance). If Ben Simmons plays games (or is traded and plays games), he will be receiving that money.
Simple as that. The salary is simply being held by Philadelphia for not reporting, but will likely end up going to Ben Simmons anyways.
Everything I have read said he was supposed to get 25% of his annual salary today. Now if the 76ers have a right to withhold that salary due to him not reporting I did not know. That is why I asked my very reasonable question.
I actually thought it was a fine question, for what it is worth. It's a bit muddy, but functionally Philadelphia has a right to withhold pay and Ben Simmons + his agent could file a claim at any time (they will not unless it is set in stone that he is playing though, given that they would just be fined that money back, anyways).
This ia the ridiculous part:
“ but if they breach his contract by not paying him could that make him a free agent? “
Cmon. Simmons will not become a free agent.

Oh yeah…lets pay 30 mil. a year for cutting and screening.

I was reading the PHI board, where one optimistic PHI fan believes that if SAC and MIN start slowly, by mid-December, Edwards, Fox and Halliburton will all be on the table.
It seems to me, if either team starts slowly, that they would be even less likely to trade their youth.

I think his detractors are going to look very foolish.

This, and if Philly starts slow they may have to lower the asking price. I could see them panicking by mid season. One injury to Embiid and without Simmons it all falls on Harris and Seth Curry.

Did I say he only cuts and screens? He’s got other, more important qualities. Anyway, doesn’t seem you’re interested in having a meaningful discussion, so goodbye.

This does not feel particularly good faith.
“Yeah, let’s get the insanely ball dominant guy who will take possessions away from Anthony Edwards.”
“The data pretty clearly indicates that Ben Simmons is an elite cutter and screener.”
“So you want to pay thirty million for cutting and screening? Be serious!”
What makes Ben Simmons so unique is that he is a top three defensive player (despite this forum’s denial of reality), data indicates that he is a highly capable off-ball player, but he also can be the primary facilitator. He’s functionally Draymond Green (better in some ways like scoring, and worse in others like shooting).

I wish we could pin this post. I'm a bit of a detractor on Ben Simmons in terms of his trade cost but fundamentally believe if we keep the right pieces we'll have a generationally great team.

I don't know if we would ever offer Edwards (well unless he has a disastrous season). but I think the logic is sound. If any team that is after Ben is looking like a hot mess the urgency to get him probably goes up. Particularly a team like us or Sac who are looking to win.
The also can be said for Philly, I think they will still be good but if they are getting destroyed every night and its looking like a lost season, they will probably be a lot more willing to talk a deal.
I think the landscape can drastically change after a month or two into the season and I think that is what Morey is banking on at this point unless a deal he really likes come along first.
When luck shuts the door skill comes in through the window.

While Ben has a large worts in his shooting % and albatross contract, his skills can directly fit in nicely with the wolves. Defending, cutting, high assist for 3s (I believe I’ve read 3rd or 4th in the last two years).
While his skills are unique in the current NBA landscape, what trades have been made for similar NBA talent in the last handful of years? The wolves got pretty much nothing for Jimmy. Are we sure there are any decent offers out there? I can’t imagine anyone sending any star player back.
My guess is he goes to SA as they don’t need to send equal salary back and can offer mediocre talent and picks.

I think this goes to the trade deadline. If Beal or Lillard become available, it’ll probably be a three way with Simmons going to a team like us or the Kings and young players/picks going to the Wiz/Blazers. If a star doesn’t become available, I think Simmons is going to a team willing to give up more win-now pieces like the Spurs (some combo of Murray, White, Johnson).
