Re: Kevin Durant
HALLELLUJAH its over and we didnt give up the farm for KD!
Thanks KD from saving TC from himself.
Now Julius Randle please save TC from himself and turn down the ridiculous contract hes going to offer you!
Demand Phoenix or Atlanta or Miami those cities are warm in February!
About what Id expect for a 37 year old Durant on an expiring. Jalen Green and the 10th pick plus a slightly negative brooks contract.
Kept Jabari Smith and Amen Thompson. Must have thrown in a bunch of mostly late 2nd round picks to push it past the finish line.
Houston's backcourt is going to be super thin maybe they are hoping that Reed Shepherd really steps up.
Would anyone do Jalen Green for Gobert or Randle? He has 3/105 left with a player option at the end.
Not a PG but adds a backcourt shot creator to play with Ant.
Kind of a knucklehead but is there still upside?
I would do it for an opted in Randle. That trade would work after July 1.
Phoenix would have to get under the 2nd apron for a Gobert/Green deal to work, which would also have to happen after July 1.
A little confused on how the salary matching would work on the reported deal.
Green signed an extension and his salary is only 12 million in '24 but 33 million in '25.
Phoenix is a 2nd apron team and can't take back more than it sends out.
Brooks plus Green would make slightly more than Durant in '25.
Meaning Phoneix would have to get under the 2nd apron to make this deal work after July 1st and then would be hardcapped there after the trade.
I don't think the trade works on this cap year either because I think Green counts as his '25 salary in outgoing, which causes it to trigger 2nd apron rules.
There has got to be another small maneuver to make the trade legal.

Gobert for Green?
God, no.
I wouldn’t trade TSJ for Green.

Besides yourself of course, can you please provide us with a list of the more successful GMs and Head Coaches in our franchise history than Connelly and Finch?
I'll hang up and listen, David. Thanks.

Rosas. The guy who actually drafted Jaden and Ant. The guy who hired Finch to replace Ryan (who Glen likely forced on us.) Rosas blew the Culver trade it is true. But he also got us Naz and JMAC as free agents, so I call it closer to a wash.
Finch has been coaching his entire tenure with Ant. Finch has also been blessed with guys like Pat Bev and Mike Conley who have taken up the leadership void that he apparently creates. I said apparently because when something shifts and the leaders voice is gone or weakened we have the dysfunction we saw last season. To his credit Finch was the first coach who wanted to shoot a lot of 3s and play modern basketball. He used high wall to get Karl to play defense. He even saw fit to insist on making big ball work. On the other hand he has failed to develop Jaden offensively, Naz defensively, and Ant emotionally/BBIQ wise. He alienated Dilly and the other young talent as well.
What I love about your argument is that you assume if you have a lot of bad experiences then the first thing that doesn’t absolutely suck must be excellent. A man can pretend to be a god in Africa with only a radio and a weather channel. That doesn’t make him a god, or even a prophet when he goes to a meteorologist convention.

It sounds like it's close enough in salary matching that Brooks' $1 million bonus moving from likely to be earned to not likely is enough to make it legal. However, I think people seem to think it could also be expanded.

Nice catch Klomp!
That does indeed make it just barely legal post July 1st.

Re: Kevin Durant
You wonder if there were any seeds that were planted in trying to construct those 3 or 4 team scenarios for KD that will bear fruit for us in any trades to improve the team this summer.

I'd be surprised if there weren't any

I don’t care how good Durant still is in his old age he’s totally unlikeable , things won’t end well for Houson! There is a reason every fan base of the team he demands a trade out of hates him!!However the Suns are a horribly run organization they will probably end up drafting a bust at 10 and Green and Booker can’t co exist.

Glad this drama is finally over with.Still think we need to make a major move to bring in another all-star caliber talent. My ideal target is still Derrick White but also interested in bring in one of Garland,Allen,Jackson Jr or even a real pipe dream of Ja or Young.
Need to find that tag team partner to Edwards which isn't McDaniels.

It's basically Green and the #10 pick for KD. I think they should at least get Smith JR with it. Trade Green may mean they get almost nothing for KD. They need to trade Brooks for some value.
They need to move Bradley Beal. But how do you move that albatross of a contract?

Interestingly, I've heard they may use the 5 2nds they received to try to entice Brooklyn to take Beal.....I honestly think they should consider it.

Does Beal want to go to Brooklyn?

What an epic waste of cap space (in a year where it’s the most valuable it’s ever been) if Brooklyn goes that route for five 2nds.

I like how people see this trade package and still have the audacity to think that Minnesota was “giving up the farm” with their trade offers.
I’m totally confident that the offer was Julius Randle based, now that we’ve seen the deal that Phoenix took.

The trade that I keep going back to is a Bradley Beal and Draft compensation for Jordan Poole and Marcus Smart.

Come on man, the only positive assets the Suns got back were the draft picks.
2 bad multiyear contracts
the 10th pick in a 8-9 player draft
5 2nd round picks which all look to be back half of the 2nd round picks at best.
We were offering at minimum 2 positive win now players in DDV and Randle or Gobert.
The rumors that we were throwing in the 17th pick plus TJ and/or Rob were the things that were making people angry.
And with TCs history those rumors were probably true.
It was rumored just a few days ago PHX really liked our offer and was ready to pull the trigger and I think it was only then that KD torpedoed it.
ESPN had us as winners in the trade simply for not making it because it would have left us with a depleted and messed up roster.
Now watch as the Spurs are smartly biding their time to make a run at Giannis when the opportunity presents itself.
Isn't it funny how all the most successful franchises in the long term are so good at playing the long game and not making a bunch of short term sacrifices?

Yeah. But at same time why take up big $ and waste developmental minutes for a bunch of future Gupta specials.
Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
