Not all rookies. I wanted to start Kessler next to KAT to fix the high wall before the Rudy trade. I just don’t see Minott or especially Moore being ready to contribute in a meaningful way at the NBA level. Look at their mechanics, their box outs, passing, frames, ect… They are just not ready, and are proving it in summer league.
I thought summer league games meant nothing and they couldn't prove anything in a summer league game. Which is it. Josh is looking good. Moore is looking OK. They haven't proven to me that they can't help us in the NBA. If they've proven it to you then you run with it.
I apologize if I haven’t been clear enough. Summer league is a good chance to look at skills and form. Shot motion, defensive stances and angles, rebounding position and technique, ball handle, ect… The reason the box scores are less relevant is because some of the competition won’t even make the G league. You have a mix of Pro, Semi Pro, and amateur basketball players on the floor at any given time. At least the G is solid semi pro with the occasional Pro. Minott shows some nice things, ups, free throw stroke, consistent shooting motion, better handle than I expected, ect… But he also shows some troubling things, including rebounding position, foul tendencies, spacing issues, poor passing at times, rushing his shots, poor judgment on when to shoot, ect… I am not saying he is a bad player, I am saying he is too green for meaningful NBA minutes. On a team like Houston or OKC where you expect to lose, use him as much as possible. But if your goal is to be 1st in the west, we simply cannot afford to give him 20-25 minutes a night. Then the question is which is better, 10 minutes against NBA 2nd string guys when he is in over his head, or 35 minutes per night in the G. My vote is 35 minutes and let him learn before throwing him in the deep end.
