Yup, good thing we have ANT/McDaniels/Gobert.

But there is no reason he can't become a respectable defender. I don't think this is Trae Young on that end, especially when everyone else is defending at a high level.

He better learn how to bend NBA defenses and just put effort and be disciplined in defense.

He will, or already is. He is the best scorer and shot creator in the draft. On top of that, he put up an astounding 30% AST% as a Freshman on a talent Kentucky team.

I think a lot of people will look at him as a bucket's getter, but he is a great passer. He averaged 6.6 Assists/40 Minutes. Mike Conley Jr averaged 7.7 Assists/40 Minutes as a freshman.

Mike Conley Jr was also listed at 6' 1" 180 lb soaking wet.

The similarities between the two in size is remarkable. The biggest difference is Conley had a 6' 6" wingspan and Dilly has a 6' 3" wingspan.

If anybody remembers Sam Cassells rookie year with the Rockets where he came off the bench behind Kenny Smith but absolutely supercharged the Rockets offense whenever they needed scoring; that's the kind of thing I think Rob can add to this team. And Rob's a better scorer than Sam was as a rookie.
From a fundamental standpoint it is better for a man to have nothing but be under the protection of Jesus Christ than for him to have everything he could ever want yet be completely without.

Yes, some of Dilly's shots/assists that I have seen are really incredible. Hopefully it translates to his NBA game.

As for Conley, other than wingspan, he has been exceptionally quick and strong for his size. As part of Grit and Grind group in MEM he bulked up a lot, also learned how to play physical and smart. Hopefully Dilly development can have same effect playing for this defensive minded MIN group

A day or two ago, I thought he was Minnesota Jeff Teague. Now I think he might be Minnesota Stephon Marbury!

This year I don’t expect him to be Minnesota’s anything. I expect him to be Iowa’s starting PG and nothing more. I expect him to spend time with Mike and Finch during practices and I think his rotation debut is 25-26 or even 26-27 depending on Mike Conley and Monte Morris/JMAC. Either way, his long term value is exciting and could open some very interesting doors for us.

You probably think McCarthy should redshirt for the Vikings this year. I hope and expect you will be proven very wrong about Dillingham. I expect him to be getting 20 or more MPG this season.

I don’t want to get sucked into a Vikings vortex here. PM me and we can talk about it. I think the variable is Monte Morris. I expect him to be back, and playing much more like himself. If that happens I don’t see RD in the rotation. He might play when Mike rests or if someone is down, but that also depends on whether or not TSJ can crack the rotation and that has a lot to do with who else is available and how guys like Minott look in year 3. I am not someone who believes rookies cannot contribute, but I suspect Finch is not eager to use them if he can avoid it.

I can’t believe the WCF team just landed a top 8 pick.

Is this like the established Spurs adding Tony Parker back in 01? This was a brilliant move, which I did not think was possible.

We are STILL young.

Even in SEVEN YEARS our core will still be “young” and in their prime:

Ant (29)
Naz (31)
Jaden (30)
Rob (26)

Conley (43) :)

That 2031 pick is going to be pick #30.

Love the aggressiveness from this FO. Then started to study up on him and love his fit on this team and what he could mean to our future.

Offensively we can all agree he looks to be elite. The speed with the ball and handle are best in this draft and might be the draft sense Jalen Green 2021. Then you add in that he is a great 3pt shooter but off the dribble and spot up.

Defensively will be his biggest issue but a few things here. 1st and foremost we have guys who can push him to get better. This speaks to our leadership (Ant and Mike) but also to all the other guys who buy into defense ( Jaden and NAW).

Ant is a special type of leader but plays both sides of the ball and hold his teammate accountable. See how he spoke to Towns this year.
Conely is the perfect mentor: A true leader, veteran, play the same position, was a high draft pick and had similar size issues coming into the league.
NAW isn't gonna just give up his minutes and Finch can hold these mins to keep Rob is check on the defensive end.

Rob doesn't do what he needs to on defense.
1st: Finch can pull his mins right away it's not like we NEED his playing time we were the #1 team in the west most of the year without him.
2nd: Conely pulls him aside teaches him what he needs to do.
3rd: Ant shows him love and how to do it.
4th: NAW is still hungry and lets Rob know this is the NBA young buck.
5th: we have the DPOY who communicates on defense and can cover up for his issues when need be.

His defensive issue aren't talent and he has shown to be a good on the ball guy. He needs to get stronger sure but most of all he need to understand the importance of being in position and rotational help. He will never get to Ant/Jaden level but we have plenty of elite scorers in the NBA with the same issues who have been able to figure it out.

LETS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I'm understanding this accurately San Antonio drafted Dillingham. He is not a Wolves draft pick. Do I got it right?

Mostly. We are still listed as drafting Markkanen even though he was traded before the pick was made.

Correct, in the same way that Jaden McDaniels is technically not a Timberwolves pick or Leonard Miller is not a Timberwolves pick.

I see a little bit of Kyrie in his game, with a little bit of the flare that made Stephon Marbury so fun to watch in Minnesota!

This pick to me is yet another indication that the "true PG" concept is not something Finch and Connelly are building
