Re: Trade Talk (Part 17): Early Offseason Planning
So Dane messed this up, but cap holds ONLY matter to determine how much cap space a team can use to sign free agents.
MIN will have no cap space in 2025-26. Cap holds are not used to determine if teams are over aprons.
For example, MIN still has a $28 mil cap hold for Eric Turner on our books. There has never been a reason to renounce him, because we haven’t been a cap space team for many many years.

Re: Trade Talk (Part 17): Early Offseason Planning
The Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves are two teams who are expected to show interest in trading for Kevin Durant this offseason, according to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.
Pat Riley stated on Friday that Heat probably would not run it back with the same players next year.
The Rockets have been considered "less likely" to pursue a deal for Durant.
If the Wolves reach the West Coast Finals again, especially if Randall continues to be a key player, I think they will try harder to run it back and our Durant interest could dissipate. This would mean ownership would maintain spending, and create further trade complications with the second apron.
I also wanted to mention that the higher likelihood of other players being traded should further reduce the market for Kevin Durant this summer. It’s quite likely Giannis, Zion, Trae Young and Markannen will be traded.

I think the only way for TC to stay calm is for us to win the ring.

Assuming Randle opts in, how do get the other 25m to get to Durant’s salary? Are we able to s/t NAW as part the of the deal? Would we move Gobert in the deal? Conley plus something?
Randle, #17, Dillingham, plus salary? I can’t imagine putting much more, if even that, into the deal. Durant would be on an expiring deal making nearly 55m. Oh, and he’d turn 37 very early next season.

Is it feasible to sign Ty Jerome for 60/4 mil type of contract by giving him starting PG role?

Damn, it will an awesome if we somehow can trade Gobert for a few picks and expiring, then trade combination of Randle, DDV and 17th and another pick for Bam.

Bam is overrated. Yes, versatile big guy but I see him fail in the clutch too often. I would keep Randle or Gobert with him. Naz is not a starter. He will have 5 fouls before half time.

I could see a trade revolving around Rudy going to Suns, Randle going to Heat, and KD coming to MN.
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

I'd rather have Rudy + Randle than KD.

Similar things were said about Randle but he seems to be proving himself a bit so far during this playoff run. I was more so wondering about Bam because him and Ant were paired a lot during international play and seemed to work well together. His role next to Ant might be slightly different than what it is in MIA.

You can argue Randle didn't have talent around him, but Bam had Butler, Herro, and others around him.

Fair. But MIA did make it to the finals twice as well. It just makes me wonder what could be if you paired him with Ant and this team. I don't think it would happen, just a thought.

Bam has three more guaranteed years in his contract. He is 27yo DPOY caliber bigman who averages 18ppg, 9.6rpg and more importantly 4.3apg. He won't stretch the floor, but he can handle the ball, run in transition, pass the ball and score in the post. He is not a traditional rim protector, but he can defend on perimeter. Pairing such defender with McDaniels, Edwards and Reid would be a dream scenario. If the price is Gobert and Randle and two FRPs, I am more than willing to do it.

Durant doesn't have that kind of value.

Re: Trade Talk (Part 17): Early Offseason Planning
Part of any Durant trade would require the Suns to get under the second, and maybe even the first, apron. I have been keeping my ear to the ground how the Suns might do that, so I thought I would bring over what I wrote about a Beal buy out
So my general view is that while a Beal buy out is possible according to CBA rules, and the Suns would want to do it to fix their books, it’s unlikely Beal is going to accept a buy out without getting more of his money, which is legally impossible.
shrink wrote:The basics though is that the Suns need Beal to take a pay cut. CBA rules prevent a team from having too great a percentage of their payroll as dead money. However, If they could get him to drop his $110 over the next two years to $70 or so, they could stretch it to five years, $14 mil of dead money, and meet that rule. Beal is owed $54 mil next year, so this would cut a full $40 mil off next year’s payroll. Beal would likely look for a new teams that would give him $20 a year for two seasons to make him whole, but he might not find one with the cap space, so he might just decline the buyout.
