Did I say Donte can't shoot? Who brings the ball up and gets things set against great defensive pressure? Who is actually going to be able to handle the ball without turning it over and get us into some type of offense? And again, I'm not talking against weak defense, I'm not talking against some pressure, I'm talking against the type of defensive pressure teams like Oklahoma City are going to put on your guards.

I am openly skeptical of the Mike Conley promise since it’s been almost two years since the contract was signed. He’s an expiring player, he wouldn’t have to move his entire family for 3-4 months off basketball, especially given that Minnesota would make sure he is taken care of (likely through a buy-out agreement).

The other element is that Mike Conley wants to play twenty seasons and then retire. A simple nudge of “This is needed to make the team better, but you can come back next season,” would immediately solve the tension. I am comfortable with privately giving him that offer alongside doing him right during the trade process, if that means addressing the team’s shortcomings.

It's really hard to find viable trades without that salary, so hopefully it's not too ironclad.

I don't like losing DDV, but he looks topped out as a 3 point chucker, and Monk can replicate that. We lose a little defensively, but gain quite a bit ball handling and net offensive firepower. And Podz is one of the best backcourt rebounders in the league - hits 2 big needs for us. Kings get their guy without having to sacrifice anything too meaningful. Maybe they can send GS a couple token seconds to save face since they've been thinking Podz and Kuminga should net them some big name. Or GSW could get Keon Ellis instead of Lenny if they prefer, but they're a little guard heavy. GS knows Donte and liked him, and he's leveled up since then. To me, he's the best player of the group. By ws/48, he and Conley are the top 2 players in the whole deal. And I'm assuming Kerr would love Conley's presence since he's big on smart veterans.

I would caution that Malik Monk can’t replicate what Donte DiVincenzo does, he is a very different type of player. He had a hot streak from behind-the-arc earlier this season, but Monk is more-so an operate on ball to create off of drives and pull-ups offensive threat. Year to year, he isn’t a particularly efficient three-point shooter.

DDV is a starting level SG, but we'll never be able to provide him that. Podz gives us some upside and Monk has had a very solid assist rate in Sac for being a combo guard. With this trade, I feel like we are much better prepared to pass and handle the ball in crunch time with some competence.

Is he? Pods fills the DDV role, and Monk can definitely still play some PG.

It's not a perfect solution but for scraps this would be a pretty good get.

I would caution that Malik Monk can’t replicate what Donte DiVincenzo does, he is a very different type of player. Yeah Donte is a big time piece. He's #1 in net rating for the squad. But Podz is the prize for me, not Monk. I feel good about his ceiling based on how much he's shown at such a young age. I like that he crashes the boards, we've been losing long rebounds for years. His 3 point bombing looks close to Donte's level already. Not as quick on the release, but accurate. He's my Donte replacement. Monk is my Conley replacement, and I think that's an easy bar to clear. I didn't realize though that he has player option for 27/28 though, so that might be a deal breaker.
