You would hope Rosas had direct intel on Morey’s evaluation of Rubio prior to sending him to Cavs. Meaning, it wasn’t favorable. If that is the case, Love becomes the salary filler and makes it harder for Cavs to build a favorable deal.
I agree. According to reports, there has been no GM more likely to have regular conversations than Rosas. And if he is really so anxious to get Simmons, he wouldn’t have traded Rubio for Prince in such a neutral trade .. if Rubio had value to Morey.
Personally, I think Rubio is a slightly better player than Prince, Prince can fit anywhere, but Ricky only manifests this on a few teams as currently constructed. I don’t think that was MIN right now with DLo. PHI needs a ball handler, but they also need a PG that can attack the rim and create his own shot in the final two minutes. That doesn’t sound like Rubio - it sounds more like DLo.
Last point. Rubio and Simmons can’t be on the same floor because of their bad shooting. So if Morey doesn’t want Rubio, and the Cavs don’t want to keep Rubio if Simmons comes in, it makes it harder to see the Cavs as a destination. Rubio would need to go to a third team, but is there even a team left who hasn’t decided who their PG will be?
Right now, I think Prince > Rubio on the Wolves, and Prince > Rubio if we want to make a trade.
