I'm not even sure I remember how long it's been since I've seen him break out in front of others like that. The wherewithall to stop and get back, doesn't even look like the same guy. We never saw Teague doing much of that but Tyus sort of at least.

Different pg with different schemes.
Wiggs, rubio, bazz etc woukd run because they know that ricky would get them the ball in stride.
With teague, he just doesn't see the floor as well and just never really looked comfortable running the break unless he is calling his own number.
Ricky will throw a half court pass or lob and hit the player in stride. Teague bursts the ball up and stops at the ft line then dribbles in circles until the defense sets thenselves. I dont think our players ran as hard in transition because they knew they wouldn't get the ball. Im not putting this all on teague, but he and thibs are the main reasons we didnt run as much as we should have.

Well see more of that from Teague this year. But I'm interested in seeing if he shows us anything different due to who he's playing with now. That is if the starting group and rotations actually look much different this year.

Corey Brewer is rewarded for running the floor here imo

I think your memory is playing tricks on you. Rubio always had lots of fans here in MN who didn't mind his shooting game because the rest of his game was so strong. And even when he was missing layups he was usually very good at drawing free throws. Not to say that there weren't plenty of vocal complaints from some fans when he missed a shot... anyways, still a ton of people who immediately felt it was a huge loss to the team and the timberwolves community when they traded him.

My memory always plays tricks on me, but not on this.
There was no doubt he was well liked as a player and a person, but a lot of rubes here wanted him gone once he started missing layups. And he wasn't getting to the FT line as often because of it. Defenders were not even defending him. He couldn't shoot which would allow the defender sag off and double down low. Now people did want to see how he played with Butler before being dealt, but Thibs was determined to deal him by then. It's only after he started making shots in Utah that rubes started to regret the trade. Like I said, more fans than not hated his shooting game when he was here. He did everything else great, but shooting wasn't it.

My recollection is that Rubio had twice as many supporters as detractors and most people particularly on this board were against the trade that led to us getting Teague.

Maybe true here, I was only on Wolveschat, and he was getting trashed the last year here. But whatever, he still cant shoot or make layups.

I have seen him make a layup so I know that part is false.
Yes I know he isn't particularly good at them.

Actually Ricky's rim finishing is now solidly above-average. It's been the biggest improvement in his game.

Utah did a lot for improving Rubio's weaknesses and he seemed to do a lot to change their identity and work ethic. I was surprised they wanted to move on from him. Had Mitchell not had a sophomorish slump late in the their run they probably would have made more waves.

if you say so. I did the math on his horrible shooting. Cost us about 2 points per game vs average?

It wasn't ME who said so, it was the math experts and stat junkies that said so. Did the math?
How many close games did we lose. Those 2 points could have been the difference. But whatever.
I already said I liked everything else about his game but his shooting. Why are you still trying to argue with me?

It was probably closer to 3 points. 2-4 depending on the game. Yeah those 3 points could have been the difference in close games. So could an assist, a rebound a steal. I'd love to take my chances with Rubio and his crappy shooting along with his playmaking, rebounds and steals. If you love his game wouldn't you take your chances with that? I wish we had him.

Would you pay $18 million a year for him? And, is he a starting PG for a championship team?
He's not a threat to score, and he needs to be. Even J Kidd figured it out, not sure Rubio can. Lets see how he does in Phx. They have a nice core.
Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
