Rudy Fernandez?

http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wireta ... ing_short/Kerry Eggers of the Portland Tribune doesn't expect Rudy Fernandez to be back with the Blazers for the 10-11 season, with a trade or a return to Europe a possibility.
Remember, Kahn said all moves he makes this offseason are under the belief that Rubio will be a Wolf in two years.
Gomes for Fernandez?

I'd give them Gomes and Utah pick for Rudy

Does that work in the trade checker? Even so, I can't believe they would want Gomes.
I think they would be interested in Pekovic and perhaps even Hollins.
Utah + Hollins for Rudy?
Pekovic for Rudy + Blazers 1st?

Sounds fine to me but expect Portland's fans trying to murder you.

Just read the Tap and It really, really sounds like he's going back to Spain. That, and the fact that he's playing abysmal basketball this year makes me wonder if he could even fetch a late first right now.

I agree. Everybody here believes that Rudy will not play in Portland the next season. Rumours (I trust them) are saying Real Madrid's people was talking with him, but I think also some NBA teams has interest in Rudy.

Darko was going back to Europe, too....at least we could try to acquire him and his rights. Maybe he would come back over when Rubio.
Good call on Pekovic. They need another offensive post player, and I think it would be good value for them.

Agreed. Pekovic makes a ton of sense for the Blazers, but I can't see them parting with Rudy and their 1st. Pek for Rudy straight up seems sensible for both teams.

I wouldn't trust spanish rumours

Why is Rudy with his .376 FG%, bad back, and desire to leave the NBA considered a positive asset again? I would be disappointed if that's all we netted for Pekovic.

Russian teams and greek teams also want him. Trust me, I'm a specialist in spanish rumours.
BTW, Messi played tonight against Arsenal the best game I ever seen. Barça have deleted to London of the map

No matter how much euro teams want him, it makes no difference, they have no shot at acquiring him from portland. All they have to offer is money, which portland does not care about. They are not going to let him walk for nothing, and the only compensation they are interested in is young players and draft picks.
An unhappy, ineffective player halfway through his rookie deal is not worth pekovic. The utah pick is about the right value. Portland will trade him for something, but they aren't going to give him away.
Here's a pretty crazy thought, we acquire him from portland, then swing a deal with Barcelona offering fernandez' rights for rubio being released from his contract. Personally I think Rubio staying another year is in everyone's best interest. Is there any history of an NBA team "selling" or trading a player to a euro team?

Well there are precedents in other sports. Like Jack Elliot...

European teams don't abide by NBA rules. If they want to flat out sign a player from an NBA team, they can do so. The only thing preventing them is the the player himself.
Read This for More InfoFact remains, if Real Madrid offers Fernandez a significant amount of money, he's gone within a heartbeat and there's nothing Portland can do about it except keep his rights until he returns to the NBA (ala Childress).
This is one reason why Stern is contemplating an NBA Europe, so European teams don't end up taking his players. It's inevitable though.

Childress wasn't under contract with the Hawks though. They own his rights, but that's different. My understanding is that FIBA rules prevent him from signing a contract with a european club unless a buy out is reached with the Blazers.

I believe Fernandez is in the same position as Childress as he would be a RFA as long as.....
The Hawks would retain Childress' NBA rights, and he would remain a restricted free agent, if they make a qualifying offer each year, Babby said. That would count against their salary cap, though. If they don't, he'd become an unrestricted free agent.

Exactly, in other words Fernández has his own rights for out of the NBA if he hadn't signed with the Joventut a 'right of first refusal' contract for a return to europe scenario.

i don't understand this.
rudy fernandez will still be under contact with portland for next season.
http://hoopshype.com/salaries/portland.htmhow can he just abandon that contract?? surely there must be something written in his contract saying he must stay and honour his contract?
i know ersan ilyasova from the milwaukee bucks played one season as a 19 year old in his rookie year and then went back and played for real madrid before returning this year. i'm sure this situation was agreed upon by the management of the bucks though as he was not ready.
the josh childress situation is completely different aswell. childress's contract had expired and he was a restricted free agent, meaning that he could sign and offer sheet with any nba team and the hawks would have the right to match it...but he signed a contract with a european team which nba teams can do nothing about. they still extended the qualifying offer meaning they retained his rights.
so fernandez's situation is completely different. again, he is under contract for the next 2 years...how can he just run away from that??
