My Mock Offseason

Post#1 » by Klomp » Thu Apr 15, 2010 7:21 am

1. Resign Darko
2. Trade Love for Jeff Green & Serge Ibaka
3. Draft Turner, Udoh (16), Singler (UTAH)
4. Trade Gomes for Keyon Dooling

Flynn / Sessions / Dooling
Turner / Brewer / Ellington
Green / Singler
Jefferson / Udoh
Darko / Ibaka / Hollins

Why Jeff Green? I question the value there and really the fit in the lineup too. What does Green bring that we wouldn't have with Brewer being the starter and keeping Love on the bench?

shrink and someone else have brought up the fact that Jeff Green needs to get paid in a year as well. Just another reason I am against a Love/Green swap.

I would cry if this was our off-season. And Kahn would be fired.

Additional needs
1) Swingman
2) Backup center

Trades
1) Sessions for Conley - Conley's contract expires after the 2010/11 season. Viola, open spot for Rubio.
2) Gomes for expirings + any pick - Don't want his contract weighing us down (not that he's bad or anything)
3) #17 + Jazz pick for #14 (Houston's pick) IF a player we want is available (I wouldn't rule out offering Houston their second round pick back either)
4) Trade Love or Jefferson. Whichever results in the best offer.

Draft
-Top 5 pick - Find a way to get Turner or Johnson
-I think a very good center will be available with the #17 pick (or #14 if you can pull the trade off). Luckily teams that draft immediately before us have decent centers (Bogut, Ming, Gasol, Hibbert).

#1-5 Turner/Johnson
#14 - Vesely/Whiteside - if neither are available, keep the pick and draft Orton or Henry at #17 and Ebanks with the Jazz pick

If we draft Vesely, I would draft Branislav Djekic (Vesley's teammate) in order to offer an additional 500k to secure Vesely's release.

Free agency
Resign Darko Milicic for no more than a 3 year 14.7 million dollar contract
Sign Pekovic - If Love is traded, consider trading Pekovic for Splitter (depends on what he wants paid)

My dream offseason:

Draft: Turner/Whiteside/Stanley Robinson (ok Whiteside probably doesn't drop to 16ish, but i can dream, maybe Larry Sanders is more realistic or Alabi with 24)
Resign Darko
Let Gomes Walk
Realize Sessions is the better steady court general to start the game
Sign Ime Udoka as bench vet who can play some defense
Make Cardinal a coach and stop putting him on the floor to waste minutes
Stewie returns at a minimum deal for 1 year

Sessions
Brewer
Turner
Jefferson
Darko

Our starting rotation is way more balanced, isn't obnoxiously turnover prone/low BBIQ, we have guys who can hit open shots, and we are actually decent from top to bottom defensively, AND we have someone who can get Al the ball in the post.
Flynn gets a chance to be the focal point when he is on the court (Jason Terry part 2) Love/Flynn pick and roll/pop or give and go makes me weak in the knees. Love is the first big off the bench and can pretty much be promised 25-35min a night.
Situational reserves Wayne/Udoka/Robinson/Stewie/Hollins/Whiteside fill out the roster

i see you picked Robinson too post0115. I really had a hard time deciding if I wanted him or Singler. Two completely different players but I like both of them as prospects. What made you think Robinson??

Athleticism and upside. We should be a running team going forward and that is why I put the emphasis on those aspects. Also, I picked Henry at 16, so shooting should be taken care of. Singler is alright, but I am not that high on him. I am higher on Pondexter, Paul George, and Ebanks. Although Ebanks would be quite a big project at this point. I think you have the right idea with wing at 24. I think the depth at SG/SF this year means we should get a good one even at 24/25.

My only problem with Robinson is he seems so raw. Singler is such a jack of all trades player. He looks like he could be Custodian V2.0. Not the beaten broken messed up version the Wolves had, but the the Cardinal who came pretty close to earning $6M a year with the Griz. Does everything well and doesn't F-up very often.

Trade Flynn for Pacers pick (#10)
Trade Gomes + Charlotte pick for Rudy Gay
Trade Love for #4 (include Utah pick if necessary)

Pick Turner at #2
Pick Favors at #4
Take BPA at #10 (Aldrich, Monroe, Vesely, Henry) or trade up with #10 + remaining assets for someone we want.

Re-sign Darko
Sign Gay

Sessions/ [Rubio]
Turner/Ellington/Brewer
Gay/Brewer/Vesely
Jefferson/Favors
Darko/Favors/Hollins

The Thunder would turn down that proposal. Ibaka and Green for Love? No way.

My mock offseason:

this one is the key strategy: get the #1 pick and draft John Wall
trade Rambis to NY for Mike D'Antoni, they hate D'Antoni anyways
trade Sessions for Rudy Fernandez
trade Jefferson and Gomes to Wizards for #5 pick(draft Aminu)/Nick Young
draft Udoh w/ Charlotte pick
sign Anthony Morrow

Wall/Flynn
Rudy/Young/Ellington
Brewer/Morrow/Aminu
Aminu/Udoh/Love
Love/Udoh/Hollins

something like that. You want to run? YOU WANT TO RUN? Now we can run. We can go w/ the true frontline w/ Love/Udoh/Aminu, or we can go quick and put Aminu at PF. Pretty nice length and defense, gonna be some shot blocks and some outlet passes starting plenty of fastbreaks, let me tell you. And you got shooters for Wall to kickout to: Rudy/Ellington/Young/Morrow/the improving Brewer

For those complaining about Jeff Green ---- Ibaka actually has more value in this trade. In two years Ibaka might be better than Love alone.

Mine...

Draft Turner, Monroe, and George

Trade Sessions/Hollins for LeBron
Trade Jefferson for Pau Gasol
Sign Pekovic
Trade Gomes for Hinrich

C - Gasol/Pekovic
PF - Love/Monroe
SF - James/George
SG - Turner/Brewer/Ellington
PG - Hinrich/Flynn

Figured since everyone else was throwing unrealistic/illegal trades out there, might as well go full force with it.

Nope. Even if you disagree with the sentiment, Love could tear both ACLs. So not "impossible".

I win!
