Offseason targets

Post#1 » by cpfsf » Sun May 2, 2010 2:46 am

Chris Bosh- Simply put, I think he's built for the triangle. Probably S&T, but Bosh would want to know what our draft pick is first before even considering it. We would have to move Al Jefferson and Kevin Love in the offseason if we get Bosh.

My rough draft proposal: Al Jefferson + #17 for Bosh and #13
_____
Tiago Splitter- High BBIQ, quick for his size, experienced, the Spurs drafted him (doesn't hurt), and he speaks Spanish. I want him because he's an insurance policy in case Pekovic is a bust. If you get the two of the best centers in Europe, your bound to get at least one good one.

It's my understanding that the Spurs simply can't afford to sign him. I posted a trade proposal on the Spurs board about trading Pekovic or #23, and received positive replies.
_____
Josh Childress -
Not only is he tougher, but NBA scouts say he has become a better shooter and a more versatile decision-maker. As one NBA team executive put it, "He's making more money over there than he could have made in the NBA, and he's going to come back with a better understanding of how to play different positions. At the end of the day, he made a good decision to go over there."

I like how he can play SG or SF. Great all around game and could have more upside. I would call him Afro Thunder.

They got Jamal Crawford, Marvin Williams, Joe Johnson. We got cap space.
_____
Conley- His contract is shorter than Sessions'. Memphis may want the cheaper contract in Sessions in order to make resigning Gay easier. Conley can hold the fort down until Rubio comes here.

Few things;

I think the odds of getting Bosh to want to come to Minnesota are small to begin with, but this would have to happen after draft day so you wouldn't be trading picks. Besides, even in a S&T I can't see them giving up the best player and the best pick. If it were to happen, it would be more like Jefferson/Love + Flynn/Sessions + Brewer. I posted that in one of the Bosh S&T threads and got some positive responses, of the ones that weren't "he doesn't want to go to Minnesota".

Splitter sounds good, but I thought he wanted a starting spot? Atleast that's what I remember hearing about why he won't come over.

The problem with Childress is not only do you have to convince him to go to the 2nd worst team in the league but you have to ask him to take a decent pay cut to do it. Doubt it happens for those reasons.

Why Conley? Doesn't seem like much of an upgrade over Sessions and as for holding down the fort, I thought that's why they drafted Flynn.

If Childress is playing as well as he is, wouldn't Atlanta want to keep him? I'm pretty sure he'd be cheaper than Williams for them, and would give them incentive to deal Williams (the Gomes deal, for example)

I think he's referring to the fact that he'd be taking Sessions' spot, holding down that fort til next year.

But again, why? Trading a guy who's cheaper and already knows the hard to learn system the team runs for a 1 year rental of a guy like Conley doesn't really make sense. If the team trades Sessions and has a hole at that back up spot, just sign a veteran.

Good point on the system thing.....who are some points who either know the system or could easily adapt to it (like Darko has)?

I don't know if he's still around, but Tyronne Lue was the backup in LA for a while and knows the system. I think Farmar too could be had for cheap. Although listening to that interview that got posted, it sounds like the Wolves run the Triangle even less then we all seem to think, so probably anyone with a high IQ.

I think we need guys with high IQs like you said, who can hit an open jumper from long range. Names that come to mind that wouldn't require major minutes, and should be acquirable:

Daniel Gibson
Eddie House
Chucky Atkins
Steve Blake
Travis Diener
Keyon Dooling
Chris Duhon
Jannero Pargo
Sergio Rodriguez
Luke Ridnour
JJ Redick
Sasha Vujacic

I'm sorry, but I almost spit out my drink when I saw Tyrone Lou and Farmar mentioned as potential targets. Both of those guys suck so freaking bad....and are on my most hated personalities list as well. I would rather pay sessions eight million a year for five years then have either of those A*s clowns on the Wolves. (Warning: overreaction probably due to vitriolic Laker detestation)

Some strange names on this list if you're looking for a back up point, although I like the idea of Pargo and Dooling.

If you are referring to guys like Redick and Vujacic, I included them because the triangle doesn't require a true point guard. I could see Redick thrive in the Steve Kerr role....

Steve kerr had a 100 times more point guard skills than Redick does. This "anyone" can play the point in the triangle offense thing is getting a little ridiculous. Not to mention the wolves use a version of the triangle where the point guard has a much, much bigger role in the offense.

Also, Josh Childress will require a contract at least equal to Marvin Williams. Since Joe Johnson pretty much looks like a gonner, it looks like Childress is the perfect replacement for them. I don't think he is going to be gettable, save for a sign and trade -- Pekovic maybe?

There are so many possibilities for this summer that it will drive us crazy.

I actually worry that there is nothing we could do that would satisfy the fanbase because we have hyped it up so bad.

If we want Bosh we need to prove to him that he will not need to play the center spot. I think that is key. It would be a sign/trade deal and we could give up a more attractive offer then Houston could, but if you are Bosh would you rather play with Yao/martin/etc near your hometown or in MN?

It would be interesting if we could get Bosh to commit for a S/t of Love and then we could put all of our assets into getting a SF with legit range (Granger for Jefferson+the Char pick or flynn?)

Depends on what the asking price is. I can tell you Rudy Gay wanted a 5 year $50 million dollar contract last season (bet he'll get paid more now) and Childress rejected a 5 year $33 million contract (average of 6.6 a year)

Gay per 36
17.8 PPG 5.4 RPG 1.7 APG
.466 FG% .367 3P% .753 FT%
1.3 SPG .7 BPG

Childress per 36
14.2 PPG 5.9 RPG 1.9 APG
.571 FG% .327 3P% .807 FT%
1.1 SPG .7 BPG

It all depends on what we offer. I've read that Childress doesn't really want to play for Atlanta, but that's Atlanta's decision to match.

Didn't Gay reject a 5/50 deal?

I should note that I was considering Vasquez and Splitter (I'd rather have Splitter of course). I'm not sure about a desire to start, but there is no guarantee that Milicic will resign either.

I'll take out the pick. I was debating that one before posting this. Bosh and Big Al straight up.

Conley's contract runs ends before the 2011/12 season, which is the year Rubio is supposed to come over (I think Kahn said that Rubio will play here in 2011). I wouldn't pull the trigger on this deal, it's just one of many Sessions/Flynn possibilities.
