Evan Turner's jersey number

Post#1 » by Gunny » Sat May 8, 2010 1:54 am

Sorry if this has been talked about before. If it's in another thread, feel free to delete this, Klomp.

Evan Turner wore #21 in college. I know Garnett is the best player this franchise has ever seen, but if the Wolves draft Evan Turner this year, would any of you guys be upset if he wore the number? I know it's not retired yet, but is it some sort of unwritten rule that no other player can have that number?

Thoughts?

I used to have a sig that said Evan Turner #21, but I think in the end I think he will be asked to "voluntarily" not wear it. Also found out his high school number was #35

I'm ~99.9% positive he would not wear 21.

If we don't get him, I'm blaming it on this thread.

As long as Kahn doesn't bring a hair net or or one of those Burger King birthday crowns I think we should be fine. Love you idiot, why would you bring clippers to the lottery? If we don't get it, blame it on the fact that I intend on watching the lottery. Last year I watched it and we got the 6th pick in the draft.

didn't that movie "the Fan" all start with a number issue just like this?? DeNiro is going to kidnap someone and the second that amber alert goes out i'm blaming you. Are athletes even crazy superstitious about their number anymore? It seems they are more apt to change their number to sell more jerseys than go to crazy lengths to keep their same number.

23 is going to be in the rafters when the guy who last wore it retires... (EDIT: Crap, I mean the guy before Shelden last year)

I don't believe for a second that ET would wear number 21.

It makes me wonder if we will ever get a chance to retire KG's number though. He spent his best years here (not his best seasons) and at least made our team decent. It would be cool if both teams could retire his number because I don't want it to seem like we're unofficially retiring #21.

I tried having him wear it for my 2K franchise and it just looked too awkward. That's good to know about his old high school #, I might just use that.

Retiring a players jersey is nothing more than symolic gesture by a franchise. There's no real rules to it. Multiple teams can retire the same players jersey.

As has been pointed out, Turner wore #35 in high school. I don't know if he would have worn it at Ohio State if he'd had the chance. There wasn't a chance he could have worn it, though, it was retired in 2001 (for Gary Bradds).
"A while back,'' Cardinal said, "I took a picture of the standings and texted it to Love, just to bust his chops,'' Cardinal said. "He sent me a picture back of a snowdrift.''

Evan wore 21 in college to honor a former teammate and close friend who died (committed suicide I believe) in High School. I would assume that he would wear 35 again or just go in a totally different direction - perhaps 84

Didnt the Wolves give Greg Buckner the chance to wear #21 and he declined out of respect? I remember reading this and being pretty upset about it.
