At the same time, the Sixers--again widening their search for a successor to the fired Eddie Jordan--have also scheduled a Monday meeting with Phoenix Suns assistant Dan Majerle.
Both are accomplished, no-nonsense coaches who won't hesitate to tell Andre Iguodala that he can't have his own personal shooting or strength-and-conditioning coach any longer, that he has to use team personnel like the rest of the players. And neither will have any problem telling Samuel Dalembert to go kick rocks if he mentions one more time how much he doesn't want to be in Philadelphia. "Mitchell was the coach of the year [in 2007] for a reason, and Laimbeer knew something with winning those titles coaching the Shock," one Eastern Conference executive told me. "It wouldn't surprise me at all if the Sixers' job came down to those two."
In the next two days, Sixers president and general manager Ed Stefanski will conduct a quartet of interviews as he tries to fill the team's coaching vacancy, including face-to-face meetings with both Majerle and Laimbeer, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation. On Sunday, Stefanski will meet with former Toronto Raptors coach Sam Mitchell; a few hours later, he'll interview Laimbeer, an assistant coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Good, I think he deserves a shot at being a head coach. Philly seems like a good fit for him.

Yes, but for selfish reasons I hope he does not go. Over on the Blazers board they did a "who would you want to replace McMillan" and Laimbeer actually was the top vote getter for a while.

Portland fans are crazy. Why would they want to replace McMillan?
Anyway, good for Bill. It sounds lke Marjle is the front runner, but I think Laimbeer might win out because philly wanted rambis for awhile, and now Laimbeers had a year under rambo. Who knows, but Philly should be much improved with a different system next year.

The Bulls have also 'researched' McHale and Dwayne Casey. I don't think it will lead anywhere, but i'd love to see either of them get the Bulls job.

Casey had some issues with his rotations being really icky but mostly was a positive experience, but had McHale not bungled the previous 10 years of the TWolves, I would have loved for him to have stayed on, he showed a real talent for getting the most out of the players. Both could be solid coaches in the NBA, no doubt.

The general reason was his lack of creativity in offensive schemes and inability to make adjustments. Both of those were painful to watch, but I agree that it is crazy to think about firing a guy that did what he did this year. The fans in P town are pretty homer and reactionary, enthusiastic in a good way, but you find yourself wanting to explain the rules of basketball to people who yell at every call.
