Deng for Gomes (If you are just clearing salary)

We were already offered Johnson + Bulls # 1 + Deng for capspace

Deng is overpaid. If you look at the deals that have been signed in the last two years, he gets paid what some #2 options get, and even some #1's, and his deal is too long.

He's not worth an expiring, and he's certainly not worth cap space in the valuable 2010 free agency period.

Why help out Chicago for free? I would want at least their 1st round pick and Gibson.

You can have Johnson too!

However...the difference is the picks...

Bulls #1 next year (if everything works out) will be in the mid to late 20's.

But, we have the rights to the Bobcat's unprotected first rounder...(may come next year or the year after). With Jordan in control...and coach Brown leaving...that pick could be a lottery pick in two years.

Well, we'll see what happens, but if a deal like this was the difference between whether or not you were able to sign a second max player and we were the only team willing to do it, we would be able to demand a LOT. BrooklynBulls previously floated something like this on this board, and he was basically opening the bulls up to the type of-rear entry abuse that only occurs in the darkest corners of the world's most dreaded prisons.

Based on previous threads, you are going to find a pretty split opinion on the deal. Some would love Deng for nothing, others like Deng+ for Gomes-like asset, and others(myself included) dont value Deng highly and would rather just roll with the cap space+ we already have.

That's the sort of thing that keeps me coming back to this board. Bravo, LOBO 7!

It depends what else goes on this summer. I can see situations where I'd like a solid starting SF like Deng, and I can see scenarios where'd prefer to keep the cap space for next summer or for someone else this summer.

Yeah....I know....which is why the "same" deal would be offered to Cleveland.

From our standpoint...we are going to lose Deng anyway...we would rather send him to the West. So it puts Cleveland in the position of...."Do we take Deng (who is 3 1/2 months YOUNGER than Bron), Johnson and a draft pick....or do we let Bron walk for nothing?"

Similar offer to the Clippers and Wizards...

Heck...we might just be able to give the Wizards Deng.... Karma for them giving up Jamison for nothing....which helped nix Amare to Cleveland...which may help send Bron to Chicago!

Can't happen the way you imagine. Wolves don't have space to absorb Deng until after the moratorium, but then Gomes contract is fully guaranteed.

Incoming Players
Ryan Gomes
6-7 SF from Providence
10.9 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.6 apg in 29.1 minutes

Ramon Sessions
6-4 PG from Nevada
8.2 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 3.1 apg in 21.1 minutes

Ryan Hollins
7-0 C from UCLA
6.1 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 0.7 apg in 16.8 minutes

Outgoing Players
Luol Deng
6-9 SF from Duke
17.6 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 2.0 apg in 37.9 minutes

This type of deal break things down into smaller pieces for Chicago and opens roster spots for MN draft picks ... Hollins is expendable with Pekovic available. Sessions and Gomes are certainly replaceable.

$11,345,000 $12,325,000 $13,365,000 $14,275,000
enough said.

You are dreaming if you think anyone is taking Deng for cap space. He makes about twice what he is worth, and with a new CBA coming up that contract is a team killer for a 3rd option at best and 4th option on a real contender.

I hope Kahn is smarter than you guys who want to add an injury prone 13 million dollar per year 3rd option who is not a 3 pt threat. I don't want him at any cost.

If you are looking to cut cap, we would consider this deal:
Gomes, Sessions
for
Hinrich, 17, owed bobcats pick.

Will clear you approximately 5.4 million in 2010 cap room once you waive gomes.
But we are not taking deng in any deal you would consider doing (IE not involving Noah or Rose).
We've got enough small assets, we have no use for backup tweener F's like Johnson and Gibson.

Cleveland would take Beasley for delonte west before they'd consider a S&T for Deng.

Agreed, and that's a much more reasonable deal.

Look, if MIN can't bring in their own free agent, they can sell cap space that some other team may turn into an ELITE free agent. If we gave CHI the cap space to add LeBron + Bosh, don't you think that's worth more to them than an over-priced Luol Deng? The extra cap space isn't just about getting Bosh .. it would be about getting both.

MIN is a kingmaker here. If they don't deal with CHI, they can trade the cap space to another team for a price that's linked to what the team can get for the cap space (elite free agent). Sending it to NYK instead may mean that instead of CHI having them both, NYK could have them both, and CHI comes back empty.

Even if you like Deng (which I think is impossible with that contract), you at least say "Give everything of value besides Rose and maybe Noah," or we'll find someone who will. Deals need to be in place with the free agents ahead of time (which you know they will be), but it should be:

Cap space for Deng + both picks + Taj + James Johnson

If they say that's extortion, you say "OK, there are plenty of other teams that would like LeBron."

Hmmmm....
Well.....since you guys really want to screw the Bulls (pun intended)....why not make it a "three way"....

So....what type of extortion (picks) are involved for this deal?

Jefferson to Toronto...
Deng/Johnson/pick to Minny...
Bosh/Ellington to Chicago....

Also...Gomes does us no good. Moving Kirk does not clear enough salary...and Gomes will be guaranteed in July.

^^^If the options were getting Deng + for nothing or getting Deng + for Jefferson, then I'd rather keep Jefferson. Jefferson is certainly worth more to us than raw cap space.

I'd be ok with something like Gomes + Hollins for Deng + Johnson and a pick exchange (dunno what's reasonable here 23 or 16 to 15 this year.)

That's more along the lines of what I would be thinking too. I wouldn't do Deng for just cap space, but if we could get rid of some other contracts and still give Chicago some cap space while picking up assets or moving up with our 23rd, I'd be open to that.

If we do a deal with Chi, I think it'd be silimar to the PHI deal.....getting a pick and a look at a prospect for very little.
