HOU and POR want the #3 or #4 (Bosh)

I thought this was interesting, and worth bringing over.

SalemStoner wrote:HOU and POR, both thought to be interested in Chris Bosh are suddenly and for no apparent explainable reason are seeking a top 3 or 4 pick?

Teams with capspace and high picks at 3 and 4? Neither of which are possible Bosh S&T landing spots(MIN cuz it's MIN and NJN cuz it's in TOR's division).

Connection? I'm leaning towards yes. I've also been called nuts once or twice.

You can imagine that when the TOR representatives at the lottery didn't get a 3 or 4 to replace Bosh, they might have said something that yahoo picked up.

I've always said that while there is a 0% chance we could get LeBron, there may be only a slightly better chance we get Bosh, simply because he said he wants to go someplace to be "the man." I don't think it would be MIN though. I also don't see how HOU or POR could get our #4, but maybe some 3-teamer with Aaron Brooks + #12, or this year's Sergio/RudyF/Batum? I'm not seeing it.

I think this is Houston looking to acquire Bosh (perfect next to Yao) and needing Favors or Cousins to send to Toronto to facilitate the S&T. Problem is that the Wolves have the two assets the Rockets need in this scenario - the high pick and the cap space.

Would any of Houston's other assets (Battier? Ariza? Brooks?) entice the Wolves to move from 4 to 13? I don't think so.

I'd be willing to give the 4 to Portland, all they have to do is fork over Oden and Fernandez.

Neither team has much to offer.
Oden is a walking injury with 1 year left on his rookie deal.
The nice smaller assets (fernandez) could be had for less.

If we trade with POR then we might as well blow it up and go nuts:

POR out/MIN in
Oden (C)
Batum (SF)
#22 Pick

POR in/MIN out
#4 pick
Peckovic (C)

S&T Joe Johnson for Hollins,Gomes, #16, #22, #23. ATL can take any or all of these assessts they don't mean much to me. All might be a bit much, but I wouldn't see ATL wanting to take on 5 roster spots either.

PG: Flynn, Sessions
SG: Johnson, Brewer
SF: Batum, Brewer
PF: Jefferson, Love
C: Oden, Hollins

Johnson, Brewer and Batum do the 3 man rotation at the wings, and Jefferson, Love and Oden do the 3 man on the blocks.

That is just awful.
4 years of Cousins>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>1 year of Oden.
Batum doesn't do anything for me.

that would be like the foye/miller for 5 deal, except we're on the other end.

Houston wants to trade either Yao or Jordan Hill. They are the best franchise without a franchise player right now (unless people think that Scola is their franchise player) and are looking to acquire either Favors or Cousins to fill this void.

If he's healthy, Yao would be interesting to some franchises (not us) who could take advantage of the marketing opportunities he represents. However, HOU has worked hard to take advantage of those opportunites themselves.

I heard yesterday that in America we value stats, and in China they value championships. I wonder if Yao was sent to a champion, if they'd still have the resources to make a three-team deal?

I really don't understand why Portland would make a move. Their roster is very deep at PF/ C. They have LMA, Camby, Przybilla, Oden and already have a young developing PF on Cunningham. LMA and Camby really look like they complement each other - reason why they offered Camby a longer contract. As Camby will likely stay they can rest Oden more. There's a very deep and decent system here.

I can see how maybe they would want Cousins for back up PF as of now and C after Camby is done in 2 years from now. But a combo of Batum/ Fernandez/ Bayless will not get it done with both Nets and Minny.

Favors is an undersized PF just like Cunningham but with CB4 skills, so no way in hell he will be able to play C. They target Cousins.

Houston obviously has the better pieces for either Nets or Wolves (Yao, J Hill, Knicks first round picks, Battier/ Jeffries/ Budinger), they need a franchise player, they need a PF or C, and they have The Wizard Morey who can get it done. I'm pretty sure if a deal goes down it will be with Houston not Portland.

I think POR is at the crossroads of disappointing their fans. Their expectations were so high two years ago, and they thought they'd be competing with the Lakers.

Since then, they've seen lots of injury to their god Oden that must finally shake up a lot of their faith. They've seen the shine come off their GM, as his young picks Sergio, then Rudy, have plunged towards mediocrity. The team has been an easy first-round doormat for legitimate west coast contenders.

I think acquiring Bosh is mostly about renewing the fan's faith in the front office. Sure Oden and Pryz will miss games next year, but I think POR wants to look like they are acquiring superstars, when none but Roy have achieved that level of potential.

doesn't taking on Kevin Martin counteract the savings of losing Green and Kaponovic?

It's not about savings. It's about getting a really good shooting guard that is a perfect fit for their current squad.

I'd really love that trade, even if we do have to give up 16. I wish there was a way for that to happen...

Philly's bleeding money out the anus. Kevin Martin doesn't bring fans in. Elton Brand is an immovable object, both figuratively and literally. Evan Turner's considerable star power (which would grow if he turns out to be good) might save that franchise. Evan Turner could plug that anus.

Bosh is already THE MAN in Toronto. He even loves the city. The main issue is losing ... He wants to win ASAP.
So basically, being the man & win is his main objective right now, IMHO. If he can't get that, he'll settle for being the 2nd man on a contender.

Years of losing get to everyone. Especially considering all other stars from his draft class are always in the playoffs ...

Bottom line: chances of getting Bosh are pretty much at 0% too. It's almost as bad as Knicks fans dreaming of getting him without first signing another top FA (LeBron). He simply won't sign if that team is not assured of being really competitive, not even with the Knicks.

With all that said, Timberwolves are in a very nice position to build a very good team ... but it'll take a few years to get there. With a bit more lottery-luck that would've come sooner, but I still like the options ...

Re the Kevin Martin 3-way.
More likely it would be a straight Martin and the #14 for the #4 and #22.(W/Martin being "future considerations" that comes over on July 1 when Minn has the cap space, after Darko signed or renounced.)
Martin would give Minn a proven 20ppg scorer and the team would still be able to draft perhaps a Xavier Henry and a project C in Whiteside/Alabi.

Kahn has stated before that he is not a fan of Martin

I agree, it's wishful thinking.
