The Hopelessly Optimistic Offseason Thread

I already did one in another thread:
AQuintus wrote:I'm going to be really overoptimistic and say:
Favors drops to 4.
Al to Detroit for Prince and 7.
7, Flynn, and Pekovic for Turner.
Paul George at 16.
Avery Bradley at 23.
Darko,Hollins
Favors,Love
Prince,Brewer,George
Turner,Ellington
Sessions,Bradley,(Rubio)
And here's another one:
Draft Cousins at 5.
Trade Love + Flynn + Pekovic's rights for Harris + 3 (Favors). (NJ cuts salary to sign 2 FA's and gets Love).
Draft Paul George at 16.
Trade Jefferson + 23 for Granger.
Resign Darko.
Cousins,Darko
Favors,Darko,Granger
Granger,George
Brewer,Ellington,Harris
Harris,Sessions,(Rubio)
A strong running team that can flow into the half court and would be extremely difficult to score upon (look how long that front court would be!

).

I think we need a sticky for offseason trades/moves.

Probably a good idea. I have a feeling that there's going to be a ton of them (both real and fake).

The more and more I think about this...the more and more I think we will be able to grab Turner. Once the combine takes place and Cousins and Favors work out I think their stock may rise and Philly is going to fall in love with Cousins because of his size, and just overall skill. Kahn is probably going to be very busy this offseason, and I think he'll be able to acquire another high pick to package with our pick to grab Turner and try to save this franchise!

Then we would only post on that sticky. Offseason trades/moves will be 90% of the threads from now until October.

If true, it would have to be a draft day trade after the picks are made. Otherwise, wouldn't NJ just hold Cousins ransom?

I'll defer to your expertise on this one. No sticky it is.

Well, Idk I guess. How would NJ find out really? Or if they did, just eff them and we'll take Favors anyway.

Yeah, why would New Jersey bother holding Cousins anyway? Favors fits them a LOT better then Cousins and even Turner really.

My realistic optimistic thing right now is...
Draft cousins
Al for Prince/7 and get either Aminu or Johnson.
Resign Darko
We then still have flexible assets (pekovic, 16th, 23) to move around as well. Not to mention flipping Prince's contract.
ooooh, I wonder what a flipped prince+pekovic could bring as far as legit SG.
So much potential this summer.

Can't combine players just traded for (Prince)......but what if its another guy's rights (Pekovic)?

Just make it a 3-teamer from the start and move Prince to a contender who needs a vet wing. Otherwise, we could hold him until the trade deadline and have him mentor, then trade him to a contender.

Yeah, keep Prince if the team gets him.
Unlike you guys, my offseason is a little simpler. Draft Cousins, Henry/George at 16, Crawford/Ebanks/White at 23 depending on what else has happened. Trade Jefferson for...whatever really, an expiring and a future first would do for me. Then resign Darko and Wilkens and sign Pekovic.
Roll into the season with:
PG - Flynn, Sessions
SG - George/Crawford/White, Ellington
SF - Brewer, Ebanks/Henry, Wilkens
PF - Darko, Love
C - Cousins, Pekovic, Hollins
Love again being the 6th man and Pekovic probably getting decent minutes with Cousins likely fouling a lot his rookie season. Might even look into a Joe Smith type of veteran big to help out.

ha! Klomp, I know my CBA.
It would either be an initial flip (ala 3 way trade) or at the deadline. He has value as an expiring contract, but also to a team trying to make a run.
Also, I believe you have a certain window of time to flip a player after a trade (24-48hrs).
I would personally like to keep him until at least the deadline. He would be a valuable vet for the team.

I agree. Thats why I was a little surprised you were trying to deal him.

I would like to see what offers would be available, but I am just looking for value at that stage. keeping options open.

My offseason
1) Trade Gomes to Philadelphia for Willie Green + a future 1st with some protections
Reason: We use Gomes's partially guaranteed deal to pick up a future asset, Philly cuts salary
2) Trade Jefferson to Detroit for Prince and #7
Reason: discussed enough already
3) Trade #7 and #16 for #5
Reason: We can get Johnson, Sacramento can draft a big which they need + a decent player at #16
Trades Arranged come draft time but don't actually occur until July 1st
4) Trade: Pekovic (sign and traded) + Hollins to NOH for MoPete + Songalia + #11
Reason: We don't have room for Pekovic and this way we get another high pick, NOH cuts quite a bit of salary and might get out of the luxury tax + Pekovic would really help them
5)Trade: Prince + #23 to Utah for AK + #9... and a Ellington for Price swap as well
Reason: Utah gets cap space to resign Boozer w/o going to luxury tax, we pick up another higher pick
Draft
#4 Cousins, #5 Johnson, #9 Monroe, #11 Henry
Resign Darko
Next Year
Flynn/Sessions/Price
Henry/Brewer/Green/MoPete
AK/Johnson
Love/Monroe/Songalia
Cousins/Darko
-We have a core of Rubio, Flynn, Henry, Johnson, Love, Monroe, and Cousins with 2011 cap space. We would struggle next year especially with 4 rookies but I think we'd have the makings of a good team that compliment each other very well.

Would they really need that many rookies? I like the idea of trading 16 and 7 for Johnson and letting Prince mentor the young pups for a season, then getting BPA at 23 whether that's a Euro like Seraphin or an American like Crawford or Ebanks or whoever...hmm, I'm starting to like this idea. So it'd be trade Jefferson for Prince and the 7, 7+16 for the 5, draft Cousins, Johnson and Seraphin. The team would look like:
PG - Flynn, Sessions
SG - Brewer, Ellington
SF - Johnson or Prince, probably Prince starting the first few months then Johnson
PF - Love
C - Cousins, Hollins
Going into the offseason, with decisions on Darko and Pekovic a long with enough money to maybe go after some more veterans. The team wouldn't win a championship or anything, but it should be better then last year.
