Here are some wonderful draft lottery facts!

Post#1 » by Calinks » Thu May 20, 2010 1:24 am

All of these facts were true before yesterday's draft. History fro 1990-2009.

-14 teams have won the draft lottery since then.

-4 of those teams have won it twice. (Clippers, Bucks, Bulls, and Nets).

-The Magic have won it three times including the time they jumped past us to get Shaq.

-Statistically there is a 77% chance that the wolves should have won the lottery by now. By the numbers Minnesota is the most unlucky out of any NBA team in regard to winning the 1st pick.

-10 teams have never one the number 2 pick. The wolves are one of them and statistically there is a 96.1% likelihood that we should have won the number 2 pick by now.

I wonder what the statistical possibility of us having never moved up in the draft is. Has to be above 99%.

The way I choose to look at it is that since 1990, there have been 3 new franchises: ORL, MN, and CHA. please correct me if i'm wrong.

CHA has only been around for about 5 years, and recieved the 2nd pick (okafor) their first draft.

ORL has won the lottery 3 times, and has never been a bottom dweller for very long. Thanks to KG, MN hasn't been a bottom dweller for very long either. But has still never even recieved the 2nd pick in a 2 man draft, 3rd in a 3 man draft, etc.

I find it hard to believe that market size doesn't play at least a small part in the way the ping pong balls ping and pong come lottery day.

Miami was the other new team (with CHA, ORL & MN)

Considering that we have never moved up those numbers have an air of truthiness to them.

I don't buy "the lottery is rigged"-crap at all because there's no indication that the lottery indeed is rigged considering each team has one representative attending the lottery and there's a neutral 3rd party firm when the lottery is held.

but that's exactly what makes me more angry. there's no one to blame but the simple fact that we certainly are the unluckiest NBA team in terms of lottery luck.

Those represantative's obviously don't know the result of the lottery before the announcer tells them either. You just need to watch the lottery video. I don't buy this lottery-crap until they hold it officially.

They need to create a mercy rule for teams like us where we are guaranteed a top 3.

No, there's different team representative in the actual lottery room.

You need a source for that? It's always been that way, and I don't feel like looking it up.

Word. But I found a source for my post anyway.

The actual Lottery procedure will take place in a separate room prior to the national broadcast with NBA officials and representatives of the participating teams and the accounting firm of Ernst & Young in attendance.

I heard this on the radio. It was on PA's show before the lottery started.

Haha, that's tight, thanks. I was curious and now I downloaded the show and they talked about my thread/blog for a few minutes.
