Turner (PHI/MIN) (UTA/DET/MIN)

I don't think there's any way a team can take on Elton Brand, and the $50 mil he has left on his deal, even to get the #2. Turner may be great, but he can't earn that much money back. Moreover, PHI is hemorrhaging money, and will be over the lux next year, so they need savings immediately.

If I was making an offer for MIN, I'd do something like this (post's trade)

UTA GIVES: Kirilenko + #9
UTA GETS: Prince (exp) + Gomes ($4/$1 mil) + $8/$5 mil in raw cap space

DET GIVES: Prince + #7
DET GETS: Jefferson

MIN GIVES: Jefferson + Gomes
MIN GETS: Kirilenko + #7 + #9

then

MIN GETS: #2 + Kapono ($6.6 mil)

PHI GETS: #4 + #7 + raw cap space

PHI would get two good lottery picks, and the cap space that would save the team between $15-16 million dollars.

Dalembert's off the books next year so they can stay under the lux, and probably fill his spot by drafting Cousins. I'm not sure who'd they get with the #7, but he'd be a decent young inexpensive player with upside.

The two deals cost MIN #4, Jefferson, and about $10 mil of their cap space for #2 and #9.

I don't see why Utah would swap AK and the 9 for Prince. I'd think they could do better.

Many UTA fans are good with it because it meets their opposing goals. It allows them to remain just as competitive, AK = Prince, it allows them to keep Boozer rather than lose him for nothing, and the raw cap space also gets them under the lux, where their management will almost certainly aim. This gets done without any more loss of talent.

Interesting. It is alot to give up, when it comes down to it, for an unproven guy.

Are we allowed to link to canishoopus? A guy Ebomb over there has a great post entitled "Stop Thinking about Evan Turner and start thinking about Andre Idoudala." Pretty in depth about how Iggy would be an excellent fit for the wolves and may be easier(ie. take less assets) to get. We could keep Cousins(we all know good bigs are rare) and still get our stud wing. Check it out. It reminded me of the possiblities out there and made me feel better about drafting and keeping Cousins.

That article spurred the idea of what if instead of going after Turner in a three way with detroit we go after Iggy.

ie. Prince and #7 for Iggy.

Or Kirilinko + 7 for Iggy and we keep the nine.

The philly posters really want a defensive big and are coveting picks in the seven range. We have the flexibility to tweak it one way or the other. I posted this on the general transaction board as well.

That would be an awesome deal shrink. I can't see it happening though :(
