What do we do if we get Tayshaun Prince?

Post#1 » by cpfsf » Mon May 24, 2010 2:07 am

I know a lot will be wondering why does Tayshaun Prince get his own thread. Prince is probably the player we have talked about acquiring the most in the last year and a lot of trade proposals involving him are loved by fans from both teams. Do we keep him, buy him out, or trade him to a different team?

I'm kind of leaning towards trading him because his value is very high, but it depends on the offer. If we get Prince great, we win a few more games, but there is no guarantee he'd be next year either. Edit: I decided to post the SA trade in a different post.

Seems like a lot of money to add just for the 20th pick. I think I would rather stick with Tayshaun Prince. Maybe Prince + Gomes for Parker, where Parker is sent to a 3rd team.

oops, and I forgot to mention San Antonio should pay us money to cover Jefferson's contract. I moved my earlier trade proposal down here because I don't want it to be the main focus of the thread...

Maybe San Antonio. In a much larger trade including Detroit, San Antonio, and hopefully Sacramento - San Antonio gives us #20, RJ, and $3 million (to cover the contract), and they get Prince. If my shrink math is right (and hoopshype isn't wrong), SA saves 7,702,480 that would have otherwise been wasted in the lux tax (so really a saving of 4.7 million after giving us cash).

I do really like Prince. Instead of Prince + Gomes which wouldn't save the Spurs much money, Sessions + Gomes + 23 or something for Parker, and then Parker is sent to the Heat or Portland for assests. Just brainstorming.

We would keep him until the deadline, unless we can move him right away for a better, younger player, i.e. Gay, Ellis, or Iggy. Richard Jefferson and another late first seems like the very last thing we would do.

I'd either include a 3rd team immediately, keep him and shop him at the deadline.

I voted not sure because I don't know what we could get by trading him.

I just think if we have all these rookies around Prince veteran leadership would be a good addition for a year.

Prince has value to a team because of his play, his leadership, and his ability to win games.

While he may have value to us, he has more value to another team with play-off ambitions.

I should mention I may feel differently than most, but I have never been a fan of paying players ten times as much to help do the coaches jobs.

If we can trade the vet Prince for a package that includes a prospect and some additional cap space, I think that's a move we should do.

We'd be paying him to play, Prince is still a solid basketball player. the leadership/vet presence would be an additional bonus. There also may be additional value for the Wolves if the likelihood of Rubio coming over next year can be impacted by putting a more competitive team on the floor. It would likely be beneficial to at least keep him until the deadline, unless one of Krap's scenarios presents itself.

Trading him eventually, even in a sign and trade would likely be the end result, but it would probably be a good idea to at least keep him around for a little while.

For an eventual destination I'll mention Orlando, who might be willing to overpay if they see Prince as a Turkeyglue style mismatch.

I don't want him in the first place so that's my option.

Switching my vote to trade. It's just too good of an asset that we won't really use. Sure keep him if we had a playoff team, but we're not. Shrinks right, why pay Prince that much to coach? Plus if this trade implies that we're getting Johnson, I would want Johnson to play 30 mpg. I don't want Johnson sitting on the bench and/or playing out of position.

Depending on who the team gets in the draft I wouldn't mind flipping him for that Jefferson+Spurs pick deal. Even if the team gets George or Johnson or whoever on the wings, they could still use some veteran scoring there and Jefferson provides it while potentially fitting in better in a system like this then the one they use in San Antonio.

So...Richard Jefferson thread anyone?
