seems like we only win when the perimeter guys are absolutely on fire, to me that means that even when we play a solid game, we'll lose because of defense. We can only win by burying shots left and right

I think this again confirms that we need a better option at SF. When Gomes produces, we win.

Re: win loss splits from last season
if Big Al is basically putting up the same #'s in wins as in losses, does that mean he's our only consistent player, or more ammo for the Big Al puts up empty stats people?

Re: win loss splits from last season
Great post ... I've been really looking hard at us leaving our post players alone and simply put our efforts into upgrading our perimeter game. We supposedly have a decent chance to get the Rube in uniform next summer, plus, we have 3 picks next month and some cap room. Right now I believe we need to make an all out run at Turner, and if it doesn't fly, shift to plan B and take the 3 BPA come draft time and try to snag a good veteran FA.
We keep wasting time trying to determine what big man to trade when our bigger issues come from the smaller players...

That doesn't mean both aren't issues. There's a reason most posters here would like to trade one of our big men for a perimeter player.

I agree with this. Prior to the lottery, none of us thought that upgrading our bigman rotation was really an issue, we all thought we just really needed to upgrade our wings. Granted, we were all wearing Turner blinders and I, for one, had never even considered Cousins for us. Now that he might fall into our laps we have been scrambling to figure out our frontcourt logjam, but I still think we should focus on all potential options to get Turner, and if that falls through, seriously go after Johnson and George. I do trust that Kahn won't want Cousins unless he is very convinced that his attitude/work ethic are not issues and that he is a legitimate building block. If that is the case, I would be fine with keeping him, but I still don't think we should all assume that that will happen. Athleticism and shooting on the wings remain our 2 biggest needs, and there are many options to improve those things in this draft, Johnson and George being the obvious examples, but they are also just the tip of that iceberg. I just feel like Kahn won't be easily convinced that Cousins is the answer, and that he will instead focus and using our assets to get the best wing players possible, whether that be through the draft or through trades.

People have question Al and Love defense together since the day Love was drafted. Trading Al or Love has been talked about all year.

at first though w/ McHale, seems people were okay w/ Love and Jefferson as long as we had a 3rd big man that was long and athletic and could block shots. Once Rambis started Love as a 6th man and Love complained, then people started talking trade. Thats how I remember it anyways

Yeah, what I meant was we never thought we had a glaring need at PF/C, especially after Darko arrived. Our glaring need was, and still is, athleticism and shooting on the wings. Of course we need to solve the problem of our bigman rotation, but it's not a problem of lack of talent, it's a problem of lack of fit, and that problem only gets more convoluted if we get Cousins. Like I said, if Kahn is absolutely convinced Cousins is a legit building block I have no problem taking him and shaping our subsequent moves accordingly, I'm just saying that taking him because he's #4 on all the mock drafts and we have the #4 pick should not be a foregone conclusion.

Re: win loss splits from last season
I know we got front court issues but that is and always has been the least of my worries. All I care about right now it bringing in some perimeter players. People that can actually defend out there and produce on the defensive end. Love and Al looked even worse defensively than they are because players at the 1-3 positions could NEVER stop anybody from penetrating the perimeter and getting into the paint. The team defense would look much better if we could at least slow down the initial penetration. The first line of defense was never present.
When luck shuts the door skill comes in through the window.

AMEN.
The two players I thought would be better day in and day on the defensoive side were Flynn and Brewer. Brewer has made big strides offensively and I have supported his development from day 1, but holy moly, he has to toughen up defensively. Flynns defensive presence ... I never saw this disaster coming. We severly lack leadership and I feel the team desperately needs to acquire at least one key veteran FA ...

So the best players on the team played better in the games we won? Am I missing something?

All regular season stats are empty stats - this is compounded when a team is as bad as the wolves.
