Where's Rudy Gay?

Anyone else surprised by the lack of Rudy Gay discussion? It seemed like we were talking about him all the time six months ago, and now we don't even give him any consideration.

Are we still interested in the guy?

I was thinking the same thing (Gay, Iguodala, and a few others), but it seems everyone here is gay for Granger. I think when we realized we had a chance at Cousins and Johnson, Gay just wasn't as much of a priority anymore.

I think we want to see the draft unfold first.

I think we've all come to the conclusion that he's a pipe dream. 1) Wayyy too much competition for him. 2) We'd have to overpay to get him. 3) Even then, Heisley might still match.

My bet is he signs with Memphis or the Wiz (he's from Baltimore).

I still like him, and wouldn't mind him on the team for a reasonable contract, but it seems like between the salary requirements, and potential Memphis matching/S&T, it's easier to solve our wing problems through the draft or trading one of the bigs.

^ That, and it seems like we are going to get a wing in the draft to hopefully help our problems. Gay would command alot of money, and close to 40 minutes a night. SO that'd be 8 minutes at sf for Brewer(or George/Henry/Turner/Babbit whoever..) and then 48 minutes for Brewer, Ellington, and at least 1 rookie.

If all the wings we like are gone, then we would pry just try and trade for someone, or maybe make a run at him but it seems unlikely..

Three way deal --

Jefferson to Detroit

Prince + #16 to Memphis

Gay + #7 to Minnesota

I doubt some rookie wing is going to come in here and be a better contributor than Gay.

Very true, but we aren't going to need someone to contribute right away really. Ellington didn't play much last season, but we wanted him to more..I just think it'd be kind of an overkill to get Gay at such a high level when we can grab a rookie at #16 and then just sign a lower level veteran.

The fact of the matter is that no upper tier free agent is going to even consider coming here this summer. And it's not because of the weather, but rather because it's a bad team with a legacy of failure, and many more desirable teams are flush with $$$.

Kahn needs to work trade magic to put our cap space to good use.

I don't think it's worth paying that kind of money unless we think we are going to the playoffs. Maybe in another year when we have Rubio, but certainly not next season.

Agree! Seems like a waste to discuss any big free agents... Draft is more relevant.
