With all the Anthony Randolph love the past couple of years on this board; I’m a tad surprised that there hasn’t been a little more chatter to acquire Ed Davis in this year’s draft. Their games seem extremely similar: extremely raw, very athletic, left handed, same size, lengthy (do I need to go on?). Last year, he had an amazing tournament run but of course this year he was not as productive without Hansbrough, Lawson and Ellington before he had his wrist injury.

Although the need might not be there, but if he was there at #16, would the value be too large for us to pass up? I’m intrigued by his skills and pedigree and I would possibly move up a few spots (#10 -13) to acquire this cat that has an upside similar to Randolph.

Any interest for a once projected top five pick?

Davis is not really much like Randolph. but who the hell is?

If he's there at 16 I don't think you'd pass him up unless there's a genuine reason that he fell, like health issues. But saying that he's nothing like Randolph and the only reason he was called a top 5 pick, and only by Chad Ford, was because of his potential. Now that he's shown what he can do that potential isn't as big of a factor

Way, way down my list of guys to trade up for.

I don't think he falls to 16, and I think we have a big enough log jam of bigs that it doesn't make sense to trade up for him.

If we draft Cousins our second pick probably can't be a big. If we pick Johnson, trading up makes some sense. Whether that's for Davis I don't know.

Ford wasn't the only person touting Davis as a top 5 pick. DX also had him in the 4-7 range just about all year. I'm also not sure that potential isn't as big a factor as it was before, one season with poor guard play cut short by injury didn't detract much from his upside.

I do agree that he's nothing like Anthony Randolph, that seems like an odd comparison for someone to make. He seems closer to Brandan Wright, another lanky athlete with a soft lefty touch around the rim. If there's a player in this draft to compare to Randolph, the closest thing would probably be AFA.

Randolph has a lot of the tools of a SF. That is why many of us wanted him. Davis is not that way.

I know it’s not popular, but that’s actually a scenario that wouldn’t bother me at all with the picks and tradable assets that we have. I would love to add both players length and skill level to our young team. And mostly if both players were drafted, that would probably mean that the immature Cousins would not be in a Wolves uniform.

Other than running the court like a jack rabbit, I don’t see the SF in Randolph. I actually see KLove having more SF skills (passing/3 pt. shooting) than Randolph.

I think if a coach worked with Randolph he could be an Odom-like point fwd. He has very good vision and passing skills that are strangely not used in GSW.

I remembered him as a mid 1st last year who shot up when the season was over but I spent most of the year watching Harden so I'll take your word for it. As for his potential, I think I might have worded it wrong. Last year everyone thought he had star potential with the aggressive way he played. But he was a lot more passive this year and struggled to fit with Deon Thompson. While I still think he's going to be a solid player in the league I think any real chance he had of being considered a star went out the window.

Is there like an unwritten rule that we have to have a thread for every single player in the draft, regardless of how poorly they would fit on our squad or how unlikely it is that they will be close to BPA at any of our picks?

The only thing I like about Davis is his solid rebounding and efficiency numbers, which lead me to believe he could be a little underrated. That said, he's the worst fit for our team of any of the top 10 picks, and he'll absolutely be drafted between 5 and 15. If you needed a thread for people to tell you it's a bad idea to move up or down in the draft to target a guy who is a terrible fit for this roster, I guess now you have it.

I'd probably pick Monroe over Davis. He's got the ability to play C and some nice defensive tools. However, I hope we end up with neither of them. We need wings and shooters.

Davis will be average in the NBA, IMO. I could be wrong, but right now he is raw, and his athleticism is overrated.

If Davis can put on another 15-20 lbs of muscle he has the ability to be a Dale Davis type player. A really good player but not alot of offensive upside.

Randolph is a complete boom/bust. He seems like a bit of a head case but is crazy athletic with alot of guard type skills although his shot outside of 12-15 feet is suspect.
