Memphis/Minnesota/Golden State
Wolves Get:
OJ Mayo
Hasheem Thabeet
Brandon Wright
Grizzlies Get:
Monta Ellis
Golden State Gets:
Al Jefferson
Ryan Gomes
I'm sure many of you remember the Monta for Mayo/Thabeet rumor back during the trade deadline. While I have no idea why Memphis would ever offer such a trade, perhaps they are still interested in dealing Mayo/Thabeet...I also don't understand why Golden State would ever say rejects that trade, but anyways the Warriors may be more willing to do a trade with Monta if they get Al Jefferson in return, instead of Mayo and Thabeet. Do people think this is a legitimate trade? Equal value for all parties? Could the Grizz be looking to deal OJ because they know he will bolt for the limelight once his contract ends, and Thabeet because he is OVERRATED? Should the wolves take a chance on OJ if this deal is available? Many questions to address here.
Potential Wolves lineup after trade and draft:
PG: Flynn, Sessions
SG: Mayo, Fernandez (acquired for pick #23), Ellington
SF: Brewer, (George, #16)
PF: Love, Pekovic
C: (Cousins, #4), Darko
Yay or Nay?

don't like Thabeet or Wright. Mayo isn't a bad return for Al though.

Yeah Mayo's good, assuming the rumours about him not wanting to come here before the draft aren't true. Not a bad haul for Al tbh although I'd do others, like the Prince+7 before this deal.

GSW fans want no part of Al Jefferson. He isn't athletic nor bring the necessary amount of 'defense' that GSW demands at that position.

Don't forget "REBOUNDING" and "QUICKNESS AND SPEED"

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

I'm pretty sure Golden State would rather have Mayo on that team as opposed to Jefferson. Their backcourt would be fairly thin after that trade. I think the whole point of trading Ellis was so Golden State could get a legit sized SG to play with Curry. Mayo is also still on his rookie contract (duh i know).

Re: Memphis/Minnesota/Golden State
First, let me say that I'm not trying to offend any particular fanbase when I say the following. RealGM is composed of a number of indivudal posters, each with their own opinions. Each poster's opinions correlate to a greater or lesser degree with reality when we see what has been successful for a team, and the actual transactions that a team's front office makes. Sometimes it makes sense to ignore the posters who talk the most, and try to find the most reasonable posters when you're assessing a team. GSW has some good posters, but many of the loudest ones hold opinions I disagree with.
Some of the "other" posters have mentioned swapping Monta for Al. GSW had injuries, but here's a shocking stat: GSW was outrebounded by an average of over ten rebounds a game. How can any team compete with such a discrepency?
Jefferson has some of the best low post moves in the game, but I think we take his rebounding for granted. While last year he "only" averaged over 9 a game (top 25 in the NBA), the three previous years he averaged 11+. In the NBA, that ranked him somewhere in the Top 4-7. I can understand GSW fans focusing on Jefferson's negatives (defense), but his positives would really help that team.
I'm not a fan of Monta myself, so I'd love to do JohnHenryMeyer's trade. Yes, Mayo might not stick around, but he's going to want to maximize his value before his next contract, and that would benefit MIN now and if we traded him later. Mayo needs to show the league he can get his stats and also make his teammates better. Thabeet could certainly be a bust, but he is one of those high risk, high upside players that MIN should want to gamble on. I wouldn't mind adding Brandan Wright either. Jefferson's loss would hurt, and he's hard to replace, but not impossible, and I like the potential we get back on our side. If the MEM deal still exists, I'd like this trade.

They'd still have Morrow, Buike and those D-League guys. They'd be fine.

Re: Memphis/Minnesota/Golden State
I think GS needs a little bit more. Wright has potential, and I think GSW realize this. Just because he isn't ideal for the team doesn't mean he's a throw in. I'd say the wolves should throw in the 23 pick, but the Warriors could do just as well with a d-leaguer or undrafted kid, they don't really need the 23.
I think I'd pull the trigger on this deal, but I understand if GS wants more. I think MEM likes this deal as well.

I still don't buy that rumor. In order for Mayo + Thabeet for Ellis to be true:
1) Memphis has to offer it.
2) Golden State has to turn down the offer.
Both events seem unlikely, but both need to be true in order for the rumor to be legit. Unlikely x Unlikely = Very Unlikely.

Eh, I think it's plausible. Back when Ellis was going to be a free agent there was rumours that Memphis had a hard on for him and with the way Mayo played this last season I wouldn't be surprised if Golden State turned it down.

I really don't think that the Grizzlies would be interested in this deal. Mayo/Thabeet for Monta Ellis?

Re: Memphis/Minnesota/Golden State
A couple of our Bay Area newspapers reported on it from "insider" accounts. Even Memphis newspapers have gotten some back-handed quotes suggesting the two teams have talked. It's all a matter of he said-she said. Both teams will not say they were the first one to call.
I personally would avoid this trade. We do need a bigman. And if we trade Monta a bigman is who I'd try to find. However Jefferson is not that bigman. Just because he's big, doesn't mean we should go after him.
I will be very interested nonetheless in what Minnesota could get back for him right now. Maybe you guys should keep him and see how he does by next February. I don't think you want to trade your best bigman while he's at an all time low.
