PHI - OKC - MIN .. something completely different

I thought I'd bring this over from the trade board.

OKC GIVES: Krstic + #26 + $7.4 mil cap space
OKC GETS: Sam Dalembert

PHI fans say OKC is good with this return. I think they are overpaying.

PHI GIVES: Dalembert + Marreese Speights, and a PHI 2011 1st(top 5 protected)
PHI GETS: Al Jefferson

PHI original offer from Trade Board

MIN GIVES: Jefferson
MIN GETS: $5 mil cap space + Krstic (exp) + Marreese Speights + #26 + PHI 2011 1st(top 5 protected) + #26

MIN gets a mittful of assets for Al Jefferson. Krstic may not be part of the future, and I'd happily move him along. Speights had terrific ratios his first season (higher PER than Love!) but has struggled in his second year to put things together. He's a good prospect. The future pick should be handy, and I think PHI could still be a late lottery team. Brand is moved in another deal, and costs assets to do it. The #26 could be used to move up. $5 mil in future cap space would bring us to $20 mil, for sale for other assets.

I'm reluctant to trade Jefferson while his value is so low, but those are two high upside assets here, the cap space is valuable, and the late pick isn't so bad as a fourth. It crowds us further up front (but briefly), but this seems like a legit haul to me. Even if OKC fans like it, I still don't think management would go for it. If they do, we might as well benefit. ::shrug::

you don't think PHI adding Turner and Jefferson while only losing Dalembert and Speights doesn't make them a playoff team next year in the East?

That pick is worthless to us.

Nope, because they'd need to use assets to move Brand.

I think he's suggesting that they would just keep Brand.

And I'm not really interested in this trade. I'd much prefer the often discussed Prince + 7 deal to this one.

I think they are overpaying too. That's a lot to pay on a 1 year rental to me, but it does address an issue.

I think it's a decent price from Philly's perspective, but you know they are going to balk at the possibility of their front court being injured and gimpy.

We end up with even more front court guys who don't fit. Plus I don't think that pick will amount to much. I actually kind of like Krstic, but I think he fits in better as a backup in OKC. We would have to be pretty confident that we can work a deal that actually gets us established talent with our cap space.

I don't like it either.

1. If we're moving Jefferson we better be getting a solid starter in return, hopefully with significant upside, or a top 10 pick. Speights is not that. He's a poor defender in the Love mold and would not be able to play with Love. As Truth said, that pick is probably not too valuable.

2. I don't know if OKC does that deal. Maybe they do, but my hunch is they are looking for a long term fix at the 5 spot, and Dalembert is not that. I also think there cap space is more valuable than this. The fact that they didn't make an offer to trade for Camby last year sort of shows Presti's line of thinking. This would be a reverse course for them

3. Philli's interest in Brand would probably be limited unless Brand was going out as part of the same deal or another deal.

I don't think Philli would use assets to trade for Jefferson and then use more assets to move Brand. I'm guessing they'll want to assess how Brand looks playing for Collins first.

Bad value for Minnesota and OKC in my opinion.

No thanks, we are not getting anything back that will net us an impact player.

Give us the Prince + 7 for Jefferson

Prince=Speights, Krstic, cap space
#7>#26, top 5 protected Philly 1st.

-Plus with that extra cap space, I could see us make a stupid offer to Rudy Gay such as 14 million/year which I really don't want.... we might as well trade cap space for Deng if we were going to waste cap space like that.

I turn it down.

If we move Jefferson it has to be for a starter quality SF/SG (whether we play them off the bench is a different story). it cannot be for scraps like this deal above.

I think it's poor value for us. For Philly it's decent value, but with Brand it's a poor fit. I think it makes sense for OKC as a defensive presence at C, but agree with Krap it's not really in line with their history. Straight up OKC with Philly makes some sense for both and maybe with Dalembert on a 1 year they'd consider it since they're not really mortgaging their future.

This mitt looks half empty.

I read somewhere on the sixers board that Speights is one of those get there late/leave early to practice guys.

I'd pass on this too.
