CHI - MIN

CHI GETS: Al Jefferson

MIN GETS: Deng or Hinrich + Taj Gibson + James Johnson + 2011 1st + 2012 CHA 1st (protected)

Here's my thinking for CHI. The Bulls talk with LeBron, and he says, "While I'd love to play in CHI with Rose and Noah, you're going nowhere in the play-offs until you get a legit power forward." The Bulls only have the cap space to pay for LeBron, so there first course of action may be to try to make a similar deal with a team (even us) for cap space, and try to bring in a second free agent, like Bosh or Amare. Maybe that's up in the air, but Jefferson would be a nice fit with Noah behind him defensively, and his low post game would force defense to give the perimeter players more room.

If CHI offered, would you do this package for Jefferson?

What if they made the same offer for raw cap space?

I'd do it without James Johnson and Gibson if it were Deng. However, I am a Deng fan.

Chicago is really high on Gibson though.

I bet their higher on LeBron.

Seriously though, you're right. I just think they'd be bringing in a big roadblock to Gibson, and after this summer, they'd stop being a team trying to develop youth, and concentrate on championships.

no, its role players for a potential top 3 PF. Its the opposite direction of what we need to be doing

Yes, we need to somehow consolidate the way the Celtics did.

It seems unlikely as all. First, over the next two-three years I don't know that Al is that big of an improvement for them over that entire lot. Jefferson isn't going to be very effective unless he's getting the ball. Second, I think they'd sooner have raw cap soace and sign the PF of their choosing whether it's Bosh or Amare, if possible.

No Kirk Hinrich. NO KIRK HINRICH.

I really don't like anything on Chicago outside of Rose, and Noah(if he's paired with Al). Deng is a good player, but way too much money.

I would do something like this --

Sessions + Gomes for Hinrich + Johnson + 2012 Charlotte First

Hinrich and Johnson are better fits. Hinrich would serve as a good mentor for Johnny and then Rubio.

I could get behind that Krap, although I'm a little skeptical of Johnson.

The Bulls would need the same players to do a sign and trade with a team to get that second free agent, and that seems much more likely than just a strraight out salary dump.

Would you make that deal, shrink? It seems like something you'd shoot down easily if a Bulls fan proposed it. I'm wondering why you think it's now worth your time.

To me, the only usable asset there is the Charlotte pick, and it's basically impossible to determine what it will be. Chicago's first would be worthless ($3 million in Taylor's pocket, I suppose). Johnson is a bust. Players like Gibson are a dime a dozen. Deng is negative value. Hinrich is worse still.

If this is Jefferson's value, I'd much rather keep him.

the time to trade for Johnson was last year, and it would have gotten us Tyreke.

I'd do the original trade posted if we could use those future picks to improve our draft status ... plus, the Chicago players coming back (I like Deng over Hinrich) are not great value, but an upgrade over what we have right now.

With LeBron adding CHI to his list of possibile destinations (and in my view, a very good candidate), the question will become not just cap space, but the ability to put a PF on the team that can get LeBron to have a chance for championships. In fact, I think it may be a condition of LeBron's choosing the Bulls. Now, they may want to try to do this through free agency, by dealing for cap space (Bosh, Amare, maybe Boozer), and they may want to do it for a legit player already on a deal (Jefferson).

This creates two very interesting economic questions. CHI fans have always said they won't use Noah to bring in Bosh, because he's the heart of the team.

1. Can the Bulls get the cap space/PF without using Noah or Rose? (This was the reason for my post, and I don't know the answer.

2. If not, do you use Noah is it means you get both LeBron and Bosh? I think you have to say "yes" to that one, but only LeBron knows what his demands are.

I also wanted to point out that after the summit, it means other interesting scenarios. For example, if you're LeBron, NYK looks pretty good, because you bring a friend. However, if CHI makes a move so he can bring a friend there

LeBron + friend + Rose + Noah > LeBron + friend + Gallinari + Curry

NYK committed greatly to the free agent path at the trade deadline, offering a lot of assets to move Jard Jeffries salary and clear the way for free another free agant. However, if CHI makes a move, they jump in front of NYK, and may force NYK to move the Curry + Gallo package to have the money for close to three elite free agents (though they'd have to split it a bit)

It's like poker. 3 vet FAs probably beats CHI 2 pair.

Anyway, I wanted to get MIN fans reactions, and their feelings on Jefferson/cap space. I wanted to prevent [EDIT: "preSent" .. was that a Freudian slip?] the deal fairly, but I would not do the deal.

Fixed.

I think it's much more likely that the Wolves use raw cap space for a veteran (Deng for Gomes) than send out Jefferson in a deal like this. The Bulls will have to deal with their PF problem through free agency, IMO. They won't give up the assets the Wolves would need in return.

This kinda draws comparisons to the Kevin Garnett trade.

We trade are best player for one guy who is pretty good(Deng) and we get some prospects (Gibson, Johnson) .

I don't know if I like this that much we can do better

Yeah, but Jefferson is younger than Deng (I think). When we acquired Al he was one of the most promising young players in the NBA. This trade is much worse than the KG trade IMO.

I don't want to troll and couldn't find a related topic. I'll put it here. Trade suggestions as a Bulls fan:

If Minnesota doesn't get Lebron, Bosh, Wade, Amare or JJ.

Minnesota trades
Top 55 protected 2nd round pick
Capspace

Chicago trades
Deng

Minnesota picks 4 of
Bulls 2010 pick
Bulls 2011 pick
Bulls 2012 pick
Charlotte pick
Taj Gibson
Rights to Omar Asik
James Johnson

Obviously, this goes with what Shrink is saying above to create a second max slot for the Bulls. Chicago would basically be trading Deng, Johnson, Asik and two picks (or something like that) for Chris Bosh.
