It was reported in Europe that the Houston Rockets and Minnesota Wolves are working on a trade for Nikola Pekovic. It would most likely be a draft day trade.
Pekovic wants to come to the NBA next season and the Wolves offer of $9 million over 3 years isn't enough money for him so they are discussing a trade with the Rockets, who would be willing to pay him what he wants, which is the MLE.

Likely is Pekovic for 14

If it's a draft day trade I'm guessing it's for the 14 which would be fine. I'd be a little worried that Pekovic would do something good there in Houston but if it got the team someone like George or Henry I'd get over it.

My question is why would negotiations have broken down at 3 years 9 mil already (brokendown is probably too strong).
Do we have another plan for the rest of our cap already?

Well, assuming the plan is Cousins, I don't think the team would be too keen on paying a backup MLE money.

If Morey wants him then we shouldn't trade him.
Ariza for Gomes + Pekovic?

#31 for #14 isn't too shabby.

No kidding, that's a pretty decent ROI...especially considering that Pek pretty much duplicates all the negatives our bigs already have.

This Pekovic rumor sounded exactly like the deals with Scola and David Andersen. Both of their rights were acquired by Morey in exchange for 2nd rounders and what not. I wouldnt expect the 14th from the Rockets.
But if the 14th must be involved...
Maybe the 23rd + right to Pekovic for 14th.

I think practically everybody here has come to the conclusion that Jefferson should be traded because Love and Jefferson can never be an effective 1-2 punch. If we trade Pekovic in addition to Jefferson, than we've effectively made a roster spot for DeMarcus Cousins.

Works for me, if Kahn doesn't sell low on Jefferson.

Well there's a bit of a difference, being that Pekovic is younger then either of the guys Houston previously got and likely more talented. Considering what teams were offering during the draft back when Minnesota picked him, the 14th now for the right to bring him over is about fair.

I think you're wrong, but let's just wait and see. A mid-first 12-18 is what we expected all along for Pekovic. Morey liked Gortat a lot last year and Pek is a better version of him. Makes a lot of sense.

Pekovic is not more talented than Scola....
Scola was widely considered one of the best player in Europe before he came over. I don't know too much about Pekovic but i doubt he has Scola's credential or accolades.

Pekovic was widely considered to be a lottery pick if he was going to come out immediately. Hollinger had him at #3 on his list, for whatever that's worth, but in a draft with Rose, Beasley, Mayo, Love., Lopez, etc, he's ahead of some pretty decent prospects. Pekovic has done nothing to hurt his value in Europe over the last two years, getting accolades and team triumphs
If its #14 for Pekovic, I think that's a deal both teams would do well with. MIN doesn't have to worry about over-crowding the low post, and also doesn't have to use cap space on Pekovic. For HOU, they'd get tremendous muscle underneath and a potent scorer in the low post.

Pekovic isn't the same talent as Scola IMO. He's a better low post scorer than Scola though.

-Scola was 27, Pekovic is 24.
-Scola was drafted pick 57. Pekovic was drafted 31 (fell because of buyout issues).
-Scola averaged 15.5/5.9 (26.5 mpg) in Euroleague. Pekovic averaged 14.8/3.5 (21.9 mpg).

Scola is much, much smarter and more crafty than Pekovic is. Really you cannot compare them. Not that Pekovic isn't good or anything. Pekovic is better than most centers in the NBA.
As far as "accolades in Europe", well both were in all Euroleague first team, neither ever won any MVPs in Euroleague and Pekovic won a Euroleague championship (as a role player), while Scola never won a Euroleague championship.
The difference in "accolades" has actually nothing to do with Euroleague play. It has to do with what Scola did with his national team, which is practically unmatched.
