Paul George Promise at 16??

PAUL GEORGE

Paul George received a promise from the Timberwolves at No. 16. The Bucks originally had a lot of interest in George at No. 15 and it seemed like he would land there before the Bucks promised Larry Sanders. George is confident he won't get past No. 16. His agent knows the Rockets are taking a big man and he doesn't want to play for the Grizzlies, so there was only one other team he felt the necessity to work out for - the Toronto Raptors at No. 13. The Timberwolves are looking to put together an exciting young wing combination with George and Wesley Johnson.

I think he goes before then to be honest.

I really don't expect George to get to 16.

If we do get him at 16, I'll be ecstatic. It might even take away some of the sting if Kahn drafts Johnson over Cousins.

^Yeah, DX has him at 8 today. Hard to see him falling past the Jazz, Pacers or Rockets.

It would also be fun to see him and Johnson duke it out for the starting spot (if they peg George as a SF). George could very well be the "shock" of the draft.

No he'll be gone. We gotta make a deal for the Pacers 10th pick and that's if the Clippers pass on him.

Honestly, I think Cousins should be the pick, but I am not going to complain if we're watching Rubio-George-Johnson run up and down the court.

If Sanders truly goes 15 and Hayward was invited to the green room (meaning teams said he was likely in the top 15, then there is a very good chance George will be there at 16. I would be stoked to get my favorite player in the draft two years in a row.

You don't think they'd play both of them together on the wing? I sure hope they would.

Hugely likely he's gone before this. Maybe 25% he's still on the board at 16.

They certainly could. You never know. If Brewer remains on the team however, I expect the bulk of Johnson's minutes to be spent with him, and George backing up both of them at times.

Worth noting: this was printed yesterday, before his workout with the Wolves. Weird that we would bring him in a to workout against James today if he already had a promise. Seems like the author is just using common sense to suggest has has some sort of inside info.

I thought for sure he would be gone by then, but I'm not so sure. There's been a lot written about his playing against some weak competition, so I don't think it's out of the question that he could be there at 16. If he's not taken by the Clippers, Memphis, or Toronto then he could be our pick if we keep 16.

I don't like the idea of George and Johnson on the court at the same time, neither has the ball handling skills to take someone off the dribble and create their own shot. If you Like George why not take the BPA at 4 (likely Cousins) and then move up to the 10-12 range to ensure yourself George. The Wolves would then have a true center and a scoring wing player.

I agree with this strategy 100%, I was just making the point that taking Johnson at 4 shouldn't stop you from taking George at 16 (if by some miracle he was available) and playing them both, since they're both bigger/more athletic/better shooters/more talented than Brewer/Ellington/Gomes at the wing.

The odds that George is still on board at #16 are like 2.5% :dontknow:

I think it's more likely George is gone before #16 than that he's there, but I don't think it's nearly that much of a guarantee. All depends on what the teams picking ahead of us think of guys like Hayward, Babbitt and the rest of the wings in that range.

I think he'll be gone by then, but I also think we won't be at #16.
