NJN - MIN
I thought this was an interesting idea from the trade board, but at this time of year, people have fallen in love with their own draft boards.
NJN GETS: #16
MIN GETS: Courtney Lee, #27, #31
Lee is young enough to be on a rookie contract, and hopefully we can use #27 to move up a little. What really interests me is #31, since I think MIN would love to stash a good Euro for "win-later" production.

Is there a good euro left in this draft?
Shrink, is Courtney Lee good enough to merit the 900,000 in cap space we give up in this deal?
I personally know little of Lee to know if he is any better than a prospect we could get at #16, or any better than ellington for that matter.

If George or Henry fell to 16 I'd rather have one of them than make this deal. I guess it all depends on what we do at 4 though. If we draft Cousins at 4 and Henry and George were both gone I'd certainly consider this deal. If we went with Wes Johnson I'd like to see us grab someone like Whiteside at 16 so I'd pass on the deal.

Re: NJN - MIN
Courtney Lee doesn't seem much better than Ellington.
I don't see a Euro worth stashing at 31, unless Seraphin falls -- but they why not just take him at 23?
At 16 there is a good chance George or Henry falls. That pick is too good to pass up right now.

Re: NJN - MIN
Have to say, not a fan of C. Lee at all and rather have the 16. The first pick in the second round really does interest me though, but not sure there is a name like Pekovic this year. The guy I see associated with MN the most is Nemen Bjelica, 6'10" SF/PF. Don't think he merits the #31, but saw a few mocks with us taking him at #23, so who knows.
I do like Fernandez though, but would rather trade #23 for him straight up than #16 for #22 and Rudy.
Also, kind of hurts the whole consolidating assets into fewer but better assets/players.

I like CLee. He has good length, has some potential in improving his shot and I think Orlando shoulda kept him personally. That lay-up he missed was bad, but it shouldn't change anyones opinion of him. Although I only want him if we DON'T draft Wesley. But we're gonna.eh/eh,eh?

Good post. Its nice when people fill in voids in my knowledge. I only have a vague view of Lee, so he's hard fpr me to put a value upon. I agree this would have to be a draft day trade depending on who''s available at #16 (for us or NJN). We don't want to use the #23 (or #27) on the euro prospect if we can avoid it, because we don't want him costing us summer cap space if he's staying in europe.
I don't know enough to make an informed decision either way, but I thought it was an interesting idea to bring over here.

Rather use the #16 to attempt to move up for Henry, George, or even Johnson if he's "gettable". Losing that type of asset (where a team would only be moving down 7-9 spots instead of 14-16 spots) would be a blow to getting a superior prospect to Lee, who, while proven, is not a guy who has "upside" to be anything more than a role player.
Lee would certainly be an upgrade to Ellington, however. Probably is better than Brewer as well.

He's got good D. That means alot to me! I'd certainly give it a think...probably do it. I think he's worth the 900k for D alone that would often be used situationaly.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

Ellington is so overrated here
and no he doesn't get extra points for having the first name Wayne.

Lee isn't a bad player, but the potential upside of what we can get at 16 is greater than Lee right now. I'm more interested in 31 as a non-guaranteed gamble on someone who slips but could stick like Quincy Pondexter, Stanley Robinson, the kid from WV who isn't Ebanks (name escapes me right now), and similar, but not enough to do this deal.

The numbers over at 82 games suggest Ellington was a better defender than Lee last year. He's also on his rookie deal longer and two years younger.
What does Lee do again that's so special?

For being a better ball handler he sure doesn't do much extra with the ball. Their assist rates are about identical.
My stance is that all of NJ's players are completely overrated. From Devin to Brook.
Compare their roster to Milwaukee's, a team that had how many more wins? Yet, somehow NJ fans will tell you Lopez = Bogut, Harris = Jennings, Lee = Delfino, Yi = Illyasova, yada, yada, yada. Fact is, NJ has two okay players and a bunch of scrubs right now.

Re: NJN - MIN
I wouldn't go that far. I won't comment on the deal but I think Lee is better suited to the kind of role that he played in Orlando, someone who can defend, run the floor, not bog down the offence and stretch the defence. In that role he's perfect.
But for some reason New Jersey thought he could be a star and tried playing him like one which combined with his injuries just threw him out of sync. I wouldn't mind acquiring him but I agree it'd depend on who's available at 16 and if the George, Henry and Babbitt trio are gone and there's no way to get them I'd consider this deal.

Hmm.. sounds a little like Wayne Ellington's perceived role
