Trying to predict Kahn's hand

Post#1 » by JohnHenryMeyer » Tue Jun 22, 2010 8:47 am

Trying to predict what Kahn will do is probably completely impossible, but here is my shot:

I love the idea of grabbing two top five rookies, and a Favors/Turner combo would probably end up netting us the superstar we have needed since the KG era. However I'm starting to think that Philly will keep the second pick, draft Turner (Roy 2.0), and ship Iguodala elsewhere. I would love to see an AL Jefferson for Iggy straight up deal, but it seems somewhat far fetched because the 76ers would have a ton of money tied up at the four with Maureese Speights, Elton Brand and Al Jefferson. Perhaps we could make it happen though after they decide to go with Turner at the 2.
Avery Johnson supposedly loved DeMarcus Cousins when the Nets had him in so it will be interesting to see if they go Cousins, Favors, or trade the pick for more cap to try and max out two top free agents. If I were the Nets I'm going Favors in a heartbeat, so lets just say they do pick him. This leaves the Wolves with Cousins, Johnson, Monroe, and Aminu to decide from, but it seems the general consensus here is that four is not the greatest spot to select Johnson. This leads me to the opinion that the Warriors are our best trade partner, because they can give us the logical pick to net the player we want in Wes Johnson, and a player we need: Anthony Randolph (Dripping with Superstar potentially, lengthy shot blocker, Odom-ish) So the Wolves and Warriors will get together for a blockbuster, that's my call right now on Kahn's hand. I know the Warriors GM recently said that he is not looking to trade Anthony Randolph, but he also said if the right deal came along he would be open to it.

Hopefully this is the potential trade that will make Riley say YES:

Minnesota Receives:
Anthony Randolph
#6

Golden State Receives:
#4
The Rights to Nikola Pekovic [which they later trade to Houston for the fourteenth pick - rumored deal between Rockets/Wolves]
Second Rounder: 45th overall
(Maybe Ryan Gomes too if necessary)

The hook, however, with this deal is knowing that the Warriors will not draft Wes Johnson. If they grab him at 4 then this deal looks a lot different, because the two best players on the board for the Wolves at six would probably be Monroe and Aminu, perhaps even Cousins. But lets say Golden State is in love with Cousins and they know Sacramento likes him enough to choose him, so they pick him at four and the Kings follow it up and go with Greg Monroe. Then at pick six we snag Johnson at a much more reasonable spot, and at sixteen we then pick Hassan Whiteside because Henry/George are gone. I think he has the potential to do something for the Wolves, and he would have the luxury of learning the game before being thrown into the fire, if Darko signs and starts at center. Then Kahn will deal the 23rd pick to Portland for the disgruntled Rudy Fernandez. Rudy is the key to Ricky coming to Minnesota as they have been friends since around ten years old. Together they could withstand a Minnesota January, and if Kahn hasn't put the call in to Portland yet he is truly an idiot. Fernandez fills the huge void, three point shooting, that comes with having Brewer, Wilkins and Gomes as the primary wings.
After the draft we should immediately look to trade Big Al since he clearly does not fit a run and gun team. I also say this because Kevin Love flat out needs to start and play 30+ minutes a night for us starting next season. That is the only way to maximize his value to our team, instead of watching him get 14 and 11 in 25 minutes off the pine. This would be our lineup if Philly accepted an AL for Iggy swap sometime during the off season:

Flynn, Sessions (open competition) ((Ricky Rubio))
Iguodala, Fernandez, Ellington
Johnson (6), Brewer (open competition)
Love, Randolph
Darko, Whiteside (16)

I too have pondered the idea of gay love sessions down at the Target Center, haha, but I feel that Gay will only be in a Wolves uniform if we severely overpay him. So this is my attempt at trying to predict David Kahn's hand before he actually has to show it to the world. Only two days before the TPups embark on their journey to mediocrity!
