Why Do You Like Darko so Much?

Post#1 » by Jimmy76 » Thu Jun 24, 2010 1:29 pm

with the t'wolves Darko put up 8/5.5 in 25 minutes (12/8 per 36) on 50 TS%

so im wondering how some t'wolves fans are relatively high on him and see him as their future starting C (maybe ive overestimated this)

was his defense that amazing?

#1 - He wants to be here
#2 - When in shape, he has the potential to be an outstanding defensive presence.
#3 - Good passer... only need the hook shots to fall and he'd be a solid offensive center.
#4 - He can be had (my guess) for a very reasonable contract with production bonuses..

Darko is a good filler if he doesn't work out. (We'll have a high draft pick again next year) He's also got the potential to be a good future center for our team if he is motivated to loose weight, get in shape and work on his shot.

We are used to the dearth of low quality or one-dimensional centers. If one can chew bubble gum and walk at the same time, he's going to the HOF in our eyes.

He's already arguably one of the top 3 centers in Wolves history.

Wolves Rube really covered a lot of it. He wasn't in game shape when he came to us, and maybe it's the lack of anything at C historically for us, but there was a lot he showed just with skill and BBIQ that impressed.

I think Cousins will be a better C, but the thought is Darko might be a better fit with the team and we're so lacking at other positions (wing) that our efforts are better served going that way.

With his defense and passing, if he were to get back down to say 260, he has the flexibility to work with a variety of post players. Wether we keep Love or Jefferson, draft Favors or Cousins, Darko can be plugged in next to any of those guys and be a net positive on the court.

Plus, like stated earlier, he is literally one of the best centers in our history. Rasho, Ervin Johnson, Mark Blount, Dean Garret, Luc Longley, need I go on....

Defense and passing. The guy brings defense not seen by Love or Al and also fits perfectly into the triangle.

Because he's extraordinarily talented. The Wolves came away with a steal getting him for Cardinal. I realize many people don't watch him play & assume the thinking of larger groups (Darko bashers), but I guarantee that if he gets minutes, he'll be 15/10/3/2. He's really good & he fits the Triangle to a T.

It's kind of funny how well he plays when motivated, isn't it? He dominates big men like Andrew Bynum & can hold his own vs. guys like Dwight Howard (excluding rebounds) .

I wanted to love Darko like the rest, and while at games I cheered him on and made funny little chants, partially to will him to stay in the NBA, partially out of my own amusement. He has shown glimpses, but he's not the answer. I think ultimately he's going to fall into the same disgruntled routine that he has with every other team.

Statistics show that he is overrated defensively, and really needs to work on his hook if he's going to keep trying to use it.

Felton Spencer, Luc Longley, Paul Grant, Rasho Nesterovic, Loukas Mavrokefalidis, Ervin Johnson, Dean Garrett, Mark Blount - that's why. Plus he uses language that would make a sailor blush.

Of course, keep in mind that this sounds much more poetic when said in Serbian.
