Positivity Thread (aka the Tirion whines like a baby thread)

Post#1 » by Krapinsky » Fri Jun 25, 2010 4:25 am

Only positive things. And not "positive" in a sarcastic way.

1. I'm intrigued by Martell Webster

2. We improved our perimeter defense five fold.

3. We improved our perimeter shooting.

4. We didn't trade Al for a bag of chips.

5. We got some interesting euro prospects and those guys are always fun to keep tabs on.

6. We still have cap space to make some things happen.

We don't have to see Luke Babbit on the team, I hate him.

I don't like Gomes in that deal but I always liked Webster.

I don't really mind Johnson, I like that he's older to be honest. I don't like taking role players at 4 though.

There is still free agency.

Well, Kahn has stated (and its obvious) that trades will and can happen after the draft. So that can be a positive.

Since we are SF happy this year, Rudy Gay will be a wolf. Johnson/Gay would be pretty nice wing sets.

I'm still positive that we might not yet be done for the night. Seeing as there were a couple of head scratching decisions. Oh well, I'm actually looking forward on how can Kahn explain everything.

What happened with the "this will be the best team for developing young talent" mantra?
Wes - 23 old, Martell - three years in the NBA, Hayward - first college senior drafted.
Kahn got scared for his job and doing anything to win more than 20 games next year. Screw the future.
Look for him to overpay for some overrated NBA veteran next. Michael Redd, here we come.

Way to ruin the positivity thread, jackass. Can a MOD edit Tirion's post out?

Lazar has a pretty badass name. Combined with Wesley Snipes/Wild Wes and La Pistola we have a pretty nice group of nicknames.

I'm happy we got Wes. I'm wondering if we are still going after Gay? We all know both play at the 3 do we move one to the 2 or look else where?

The only positive thing to say is that Johnson could turn into a very good player.
I hated every other move (and non move) and pick they made tonight.
None of the rest of these guys are NBA starters or have much upside to speak of,
and I prefer not to draft 22 year old euro who are future backups you have to wait years for and pay millions for in salary and buyouts, when you can draft a college kid and lock him up for 2-4 years for under a million per.

Yeah, I see positives. Kahn will get to keep his job at the expense of this franchise. That's a positive for him.

I think taking on Webster assures that we won't have the money to sign Gay. BUT that's a good thing because who wants to overpay for him one year before a new CBA anyway? :dontknow:

He never has said "developing young talent" Its "player development". Last I checked, 23 is still young, even in basketball. Just because you are a college senior doesn't mean you can't develop.

Hayward wasn't the first senior taken. And while Webster still is only 23 he's had 5 years in the league (1 lost to injury) and will be taking minutes from Ellington/WJ.

Now that I think back to how well we played when one of our wings was hitting shots, I'm feeling better about tonight.

Jesus dude, there's a 63 page thread for you to whine in. Stop trying to ruin this one.

There's a few things for me:
1. They finally got a player in Johnson who'll be around long term. The biggest problem I've seen with the team is a complete lack of anyone worth even slightly building around, not including Rubio. With Johnson they've got a long term option at SF.
2. I like Lazar. He could have probably gone later but I think he's a solid player and definitely a nice player for the team going forward.
3. Webster is intriguing. I'm pretty sure he had a 20+ point quarter against someone once and he looks like a decent defender. Don't know if he stays though.
4. Euros were nice. Bjielca looks like a stretch 4 to me more then the 3 everyone seems to think, but I kind of question his fit. Prestes looks awesome for a 45th pick and would make a good tandem with Milicic.
5. This whole draft points to trades and signings coming in FA so it should be an exciting offseason.
