Don't be so reactionary.....

I'm just going to start this thread and walk away from my computer, then come back tomorrow and read another 37 pages ripping me apart and explaining how none of you are even Wolves fans anymore.

So Kahn didn't work the magic that we all expected of him, but its safe to assume he was trying and sometimes things just don't work out. We didn't trade Al or Love...yet. The trade at #16 may turn out to be decent, although it would have been a lot better if Gomes wasn't involved. That will depend on how Webster turns out, but better perimeter D is definitely one of our biggest needs, and obviously nobody we loved was still on the board at #16.

#23 for #30 and #35 is also potentially a decent move, I don't know much about Lazar but he seems like a scrappy player and another good shooter. The 2 euro stashs both seem intriguing.

But seriously, this is not the end of the world. I, for one, love Johnson and think he will be a stud.

The rest of the draft did not live up to our wildest dreams but it could sneak up on us as a solid, if not sexy, step in the right direction.

Of course, only time will tell, but the summer has just begun. Keep your heads up.

Now tear me apart, if you wish.....

Yep, that's about what I had in mind.

Lobo - I'm with you...thanks for having the audacity to post this.

Wesley has the chance to be a very good player and Webster will make a difference (and I was a Gomes fan)...and we still have Al/Love/Pek for additional moves...

Lobo, I think you are absolutely right. Seems like we go through this every year. The Mayo/Love trade, drafting Pg's with the 5 and 6 picks, and now this draft. Hopefully we can all end up dealing with it and moving on like the years before. This wasn't going to be an end-all draft for us. It's a step, let's wait and see what our next one is before we overreact.

This is the first night of a long summer. Good to have some perspective Lobo.

They gave up two assets of some value for Webster. They got less of a return for the 23rd than what the 24th got when it was dealt. No matter your opinion of WJ those two things are not worthy of any sort of praise.

I agree. Individually the 16 and the Gomes contract would have been debated value for Webster. Together it makes no sense, but we can be mad about that without the emo stuff people acting like this is the worst draft of all time.

I don't honestly think anyone leaves. Every year it's a bad draft and we all rant about how we're leaving, how the FO sucks, how this and that and after a few months we're back even more pessimistic as before. But that's what makes us Wolves fans and if nothing else, our draft beat Golden State's.

GO WOLVES!

I do think you guys got a great player with your original pick. I was a big Wes Johnson fan coming into this draft, so I think you guys should focus on that part of your draft moreso than the trade.

As for Martell, coming from a Blazer fan, I really like the kid. He's one of the best interviews you'll hear. He's a lot better defender than he gets credit for, so you guys by far got the best defender in the deal. Offensively? He's incredibly streak. He can score 24pts in a single quarter (which he did once), or he can score 4pts for a whole game. Maybe if he gets a chance to be a focal point of an offense, he'll show something we didn't get to see while he was with the Blazers.

Bottom line, I'll really miss Martell, but I'm really happy with this trade. So read into that what you will.

it wasn't the home run i was expecting, wasn't even a dig it out double to the gap... but if Rubio turns out to be a home run, it could turn these bunts and grounders into a grand slam. (yes, i've had way too much mojito and will be bitter and angry in the morning.)

Spoken like a true loser. I know your made you didn't get Cousins; but it's ok. Weshley is going to be really good. A lot of people in this draft are but don't spend your anger on the other players. Wolves just can't gamble on Cousins with his greatness. As for me, I am no longer a Twolves fan, moving to Sac Kings now.... but i ain't sad

I think the issue is not who is joining the team. Johnson should be an exciting player to watch and Webster is a good, if inconsistent, role player.

The bigger issue is what they gave up to get them. Both directly, and opportunity cost wise, including salary considerations, these were poor value deals. For a 15 win team, that is incredibly disturbing.

The sad part is that despite logic I believed Kahn when he said Rubio would come over next year, despite financial logic. I no longer do.

He didn't come over for financial considerations originally. Why in God's name would he forfeit his European contract to come over for the Nba season in a lock out year.

In a lock out year, NBA Players do not get paid!!!!!!! Think about it.

What would you do: Leave more guaranteed Euro money for rookie salary, the first year of which won't even get paid most likely. Or wait a year and negotiate a free agent deal with an incredibly desperate GM who has bet his entire job(possibly career) on you coming over. Oh to be Rubio's agent in that deal.

16 + Gomes for Webster thats fine. He's talented young same contract size, fits in the system, better all round than gomes.

My problem is 30

At this point MN should obviously pick whiteside @ 30. High risk high reward, athletic guy, could develop into something special.

...and at 56? We want to build a running team and yet we dont pickup Stanley Robinson?

56 belonged to the Wizards, not the Wolves.

I understand that people want to put a positive spin on things so that we all feel better, but the truth is that this draft stunk. Wesley Johnson was a good pick at #4, but we still don't have our impact player. If you honestly believe that Johnson is going to be the guy to come in and carry this team, you're deluding yourself. Kahn has said from the beginning that it is his "#1 job" to get a star, team-carrying guy. A guy you can give the ball to with the confidence that he'll be able to create his own shot. That, or a guy you can pound it into the post and get a bucket at will. We got neither of those tonight. Johnson is just another piece--not a centerpiece.

Then we move onto the Luke Babbitt thing. There were mixed reviews on Babbitt, but I thought he wasn't that great. Honestly, I was hoping we'd take a guy like Avery Bradley or James Anderson. Instead, we take Babbitt. OK. That's fine. He can shoot. He was projected to go in the top-10 by many "experts." Then... we trade him and one of our best trade assets in Gomes for a guy who put up ten points a game shooting 40%. Sure, he takes a lot of 3's, and he can defend, but he's a 2-dimensional guy. Bad, bad, bad trade.

Then ANOTHER SF in Booker. We later trade him for 2 MORE SF's. See where this is going? I don't.

We had the chance to add not one, but two solid NBA stars in this draft, but instead, we get one and a few other guys. This draft was a disappointment--a BIG one.

Anyone see Gerald Wallace in Johnson? Maybe a little better shooter with a little less slashing? I'd be ecstatic if he can develop into a Wallace type.

As for the 16 and Gomes for Webster, we'll have to see how Webster AND Babbit turn out to judge this one. Not to mention, did Webster have a bunch of foot injuries?
