Got any Gay sign and trade proposals?

Post#1 » by sfernald » Thu Jul 1, 2010 3:30 pm

Pretend I'm the grizzlies front office.

Got any trade Rudy Gay sign and trade proposals that would interest me and that fits into your cap restraint?

My starting proposal to you is Rubio and Love for Gay.

That's a stupid proposal. I'd say probably Jefferson and/or Brewer.

The Grizzlies can match any offer we make. Why would they want to S&T?

Yeah, that's a no on Love/Rubio.

My guess is something like Brewer/Jefferson for Gay or Brewer + whatever we get for trading Jefferson to a third team (Deng, Beasley, some #1s, etc.) for Gay.

Because they want to get something back and they don't want pay Rudy Gay what we're willing to pay.

No offense, but your FO is the one that has strong interest in Rudy, has even set up a meeting and has no way to sign him without a sign and trade. My front office may not want to pay Max. So there must be a plan there somewhere. I just want to ferret out what the deal might be.

This is fun...

Would you accept Brewer/Jefferson for Gay?

No offense, but it's not up to the Memphis Grizzlies what they get back in a S&T-deal. They either agree on what we (or other teams) are offering them in a S&T, match the contract or just let him walk.

The plan is obviously to trade Jefferson for cap space, or use him in a sign and trade.

Let's just assume that I'm the grizz FO and I'm a cheap SOB and I'm willing to entertain your offers :)

Jefferson is kind of unneeded in our lineup because we have zach.. Have you heard about any trades for him and what we might be able to get for him?

Would you consider flynn and Jefferson for gay? We kinda need an upgrade at point. Right now we are talking to foye and felton (ugh).

If your cheap than you dont want a sign and trade, you let him walk, rather than pay him more than he is worth or take back players you don't need(ie Jefferson).

I can see the wolves trading KLove for Gay if the wolves had a sign and trade deal in place to bring in David Lee, (I am not saying I think that is a good option though, i would hate it)...but on its own MEM will not get Love or Rubio for Rudy Gay.

Nope...the problem is that you guys have zero leverage. If the wolves really really want Gay than yes you could ask for something, but oyu aren't going to get back fair value for Gay. You may get Jefferson for Gay, but as you said you wouldn't need Jefferson.

If you truly were a cheap owner, you wouldn't include Jefferson in any of your deals coming back to MEM...:-) Especially if oyu are already paying Randolph for the same production.

There won't be a sign and trade. The Wolves will trade Jefferson for cap space (to Chicago or something), or cap space and an asset (like Doogie's Tor-Mia rumor with us getting Beasley back). Either way, we just use the additional cap space to outbid everyone else on Gay.

I wouldn't say they have no leverage. They can always match.

Not true because we don't have enough money under the cap to offer him what he could get from another team. We would basically have to tell Rudy Gay to go tell Memphis that he wants them to trade him here.

your choices are either to pay the max for Rudy, lose him to NJ or NY, or get a starting all star PF in Al Jefferson and athletic long defending swingman in Corey Brewer. Jefferson doesn't duplicate Randolph because Z-bo is going to prison

The Max for Rudy = Al Jefferson's contract minus three years. I don't see them doing that trade. Brewer or Webster makes more sense.
