Rumour: Denver working hard for Jefferson

Post#1 » by shangrila » Tue Jul 6, 2010 7:16 am

Thought I'd bring this over here since I haven't seen it mentioned. Per Oceanary over at Hoopus:

T’Pups fans might be interested on this post coming from a Nuggets insider on another board (legit dude):

Here’s the latest…we are working the Al Jeff deal HARD. The Biedrins deal is lingering and we’re not going to up our offer so were going hard after Jefferson since MIN has basically told us he’s going to the highest bidder. They want Nene and were not going to give him up since they don’t have much leverage. Melo is behind the deal and will re-sign for sure if it happens. I think he will re-sign anyways, but adding a young all star caliber big will make Melo very happy and position us well moving forward.

Personally, I don't see the point. If they're not giving Nene because "we don't have much leverage" then I'd rather move on to the next team. Martin+whatever does not equal improving a division rival. I don't even understand why Nene would be a target, but that's just me.

Yea, I'm not too interested in seeing Al throttle us 4 times a year.

They really don't have anybody we need, except Melo. Nene might be nice, but we just signed two centers. I think they are dreaming...

Nene and Lawson are the only interesting people on their team and neither are really needed. I could se something based off of Lawson/K-mart expiring/1st round pick with Lawson and KMart going to NY and we receive a S&T Lee and Denvers 1st round pick.

That being said, I stil prefer to get an athletic Pf/C that can work with both Darko and Love.

About Jefferson being in Den, it would actually be fun to see him go head to head against Love. The both would probably drop career nights on each other, but I am sure Darko would be guarding Big Al rendering him to only 15 and 7. :)

3-Way (Pacers-Wolves-Nuggets)

Pacers Get: A. Jefferson and T. Lawson

Nuggets Get: T. Murphy S. Jones

Wolves Get: Nene

Nuggets give up Nene and Lawson and don't even get Al? Wow that is bad.

I sure hope that Kahn just waits until the other PFs sign with teams before seriously considering trade offers for Jefferson. He should have at least 2 of Chicago, Boston, Dallas, Denver, Miami, NJ, and maybe Cleveland left to bid.

I think that would be a big mis-match in Jefferson's favor. There is no way that Love could stop Jefferson in the post, but I don't think the reverse is true. Love's jump shot has improved, but he isn't a mobile big - his jump shot is effective because his defender rotates off of him and he finds position. However, rotating off of players isn't exactly Jefferson's strength, I think he'd be more likely to stick with him. Shooting contested jump shots isn't exactly Love's strength. They're both good rebounders, so that would be interesting to see. But really I don't think that is a very good match-up for Kevin. Still, it probably would be fun to see - but preferably with the better player on the wolves team.

what leverage, Jefferson is under contract and is a good player, while the Nuggets have the same team that disappoints them every year, I'd say the Wolves have more than adequate leverage. Where's the Nuggets leverage if the Wolves trade Jefferson to another team? Are they just gonna move onto the next 20/10 25 year old PF out there?

You don't want to give up something good then don't deal for Jefferson, problem solved, you sure showed us.

THis also gives us no cap space to sign Lee. Makes no sense.

If we'd be trading for Nene, there'd be no need for Lee.

Signing Lee makes no sense.

Not really much interest from anyone on their team besides Melo. I like JR Smith and he could be a guy kind of like Jamal Crawford, who can get his own shot whenever he wants.

The only way this makes any sense is if it involves Smith. This gives Kahn another athletic wing who is better as a shooter than a creator and it gives the Nugs another big who can give them 30 minutes a night.

It'll be interesting to see where Al goes and for what...

Yup. Another athletic shooter, one thing they were talking alot about after the draft.

If you can score 43 off the bench, you have some serious talent. I'm definitely intrigued...

Well the only way I would due this trade with Denver is if it's for K-Mart and JR Smith otherwise no deal.

We could role with a line up of,

C-Darko/Pek/Hollins
PF-Love/(K-Mart)
SF-Johnson/Webster/Hayward
SG-Smith/Brewer/Ellington
PG-Flynn/Sessions

Maybe with what little cap we have left sign a back up PF for Love, sense if we got K-Mart he would be out for most if not of the season, plus if he did comeback I highly doubt that he would play for the squad. Then after his contract expries after the season we would have a Max or close to Max contract to off to a star player to team up with Rubio,Smith,Johnson and Love. That could be a pretty badass squad within a year or two.

For those that don't know the rap sheet on Smith, it is worth checking out ---
